McCanns Christmas message
It's Christmas - again. A time of mixed emotions for our family and many others in similar positions around the world. A time to hold together.
Thank you to all our supporters for your help throughout the year and for remaining united with us in our longing and determination to find Madeleine.
The year has ended on a positive note. Our search for Madeleine and the Metropolitan Police review of the case are progressing well. In addition, this December saw a landmark event for the protection of, and support for, missing children and their families left behind. The Government's Missing Children and Adults' Strategy aims to reduce the number of people who go missing; to protect the missing whilst they are away and to give families access to support, similar to victims of crime. The strategy follows 12 months of campaigning by individuals and organisations like the charity Missing People.
Thank you to everyone who supported this campaign and influenced this significant development.
This Christmas, please keep Madeleine and all missing loved ones and their families in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you.
The support you give enables us to move into 2012 with renewed energy and continued hope.

I don't think they'd expected the greatest threat of all: the boredom factor.
This message is half royal/celebrity and manages to mention other lost children. Sorry, should have quoted, so have to post twice.

What I would expect in a real situation:
Thank you for all your support in spirit and in kind. We are happy that so many people are still looking for Madeleine and helping us in our search. This year we have sent detectives to the US, we researched a sighting in India which was widely publicized.
You will be able to see how we have spent your donations on our website when we publish the full and transparent accounts of the Fund.
etc.
Altogether a very lackluster statement, partly filched from the Queen and somewhat desperately using events over which they had no control other than use these for publicity opportunities.

And how are they supposed to reduce people go missing and how the heck are they supposed to protect the missing whilst they are away ? Ehhh thats the most unlogical thing I have ever read !!
the only answer do hinder your child from go missing from your home or holliday is not to leave your kids alone. Very simple and cost nothing and no reason to "work" so hard and spend a lot of money on to achive..
When the child already is gone no one can protect them, its to late for that.. Their x-mas appeal make no sence to me !!!

Comparison with last years' message
2010 message
"This month marks our fourth Christmas without Madeleine. We hope with all our hearts that wherever she is, she is safe and well and whoever may be with her is treating her with the love and respect she so deserves.
We would like to thank all our supporters for 'staying at our side' in spite of the injustices that we continue to be subjected to. Madeleine is the person who suffers most from all of this injustice. It is this fact alone which causes us the most distress. It is absolutely heart-breaking.
The Wikileaks 'news' this week has led to the repetition of many unfounded allegations and smears both in the UK and in Portugal in particular. This has been seized on as an opportunity by those who wish to compound our suffering and hamper our efforts, including the very person who was entrusted with finding our daughter. Those who could help Madeleine but choose to do nothing are also complicit in this injustice. Without the love and help from so many good people around the world we would not be able to find the strength to continue the fight to find our daughter.
Thank you to all those who have signed our petition calling on the UK and Portuguese Governments to conduct an independent review of Madeleine's case. The petition is still on-going. If you haven't signed and would like to further the search for Madeleine, please sign our on-line petition or sign a paper petition form. The latter can be downloaded from the website and distributed to shops, post-offices etc. and returned to us.
Along with our family, we would like to thank everyone who has sent us Christmas cards, letters, donations and gifts at this difficult time of year. It is impossible to find enough positive words to describe such kindness or the hugely important and heart-warming effect it has on us. Without any doubt, it helps us immensely and we are incredibly grateful.
We wish you all a merry Christmas and a very happy, healthy and positive 2011. Please remember to spare a thought and a prayer for all the children who will not be with their families this Christmas.
Thank you.
Kate and Gerry"
I think that it is interesting that they haven't referred more to the review of the investigation in their speech and said how grateful they are for this to finally have been started. There is a definite change in tone of the message and they seem to be shifting the focus of the speech away from them to missing people as a whole. Perhaps this is a sign of their increasing nervousness about what the investigation might now find! Let's hope so!

My tranlsation:
Our media campaign to protect ourselves (not help find Maddie) in the face of unknown fears over the direction of the SY Review, is, we hope, going well. But we're not sure and are shitting ourselves so much that we'll only mention the review in one line of our "Christmas message".

What is certain is that since the start of the investigation there were incongruent and even contradictory situations concerning the witness statements; the telephone records of calls that were made and received on mobile phones that belonged to the couple and to the group of friends that were on holidays with them; the movements of people right after the disappearance of the little girl was noticed, concerning the state in which the bedroom from where the child disappeared from was found (closed window? open window? partially open window?) etc., and the mystery would only become even thicker due to the clues that were left by the already mentioned sniffer dogs. - The Words of a JUDGE in relation to the McCanns

Yes, how very odd. No mention of thanks or gratitude, for everything Scotland Yard are doing for them. No sign of hope they will finally find their missing daughter, something they have been pleading for since day one.
It's all a show and the signs are quite obvious.

why not elaborate
ON HOW THE SEARCH IS GOING WELL. A reader would have to infer from this that there has been a new lead to follow which looks like it might produce a positive result. What are the grounds for such a statement and why has this not been expanded? What have they done, who has been sent where and with what results......no need for details, but that bald statement alone is quite something to say, is it not? Without a thing to back it up.

Well. Can't add much to this, really. Just to say it seems that we are all united in confusion of the first thing that made me WTF?!? in that message.
That is that how in the Lord's name can you protect the missing whilst they are away??? Surely, by definition, if someone is missing you neither know a)where they are NOR b)how they are, so to 'protect them whilst they are away' is a contradiction in terms, surely?
Also, how do you 'prevent' people going missing??? Children are obvious - just don't leave 'em - but adults? The mind boggles - shackles? GPRS? I pray the 'micro-chipping babies at birth' doesn't rear its head again...

Who do they think they are by giving out a "Christmas Message" anyway? The more this carries on, the more this becomes about them and not Madeleine. After doing a lot of reading through the files etc in the past few months I still cannot for the life of me understand why the issue of neglect has not been addressed by any authority. Putting all other theories aside, if , by some quirk of fate, their "abduction" story is true, then fundamentally it comes down to them. It is their responsibility as parents to look after THEIR children. They cannot say it was not their fault when , if the story is true, ythen they failed miserably as parents and have profited, not suffered, from what has happened since. Having said that, there are theories on here and other places which come about as a result of THEIR inconsistencies, the so-called PR campaign and the fund records which should make reasonable people want to question the story. Yet we still see officials such a s Lord Leveson running an enquiry , not appearing to have any knowledge of what is actually in the police PJ files, and in fact seeming to cast doubts on the PJ investigation. So we still have a mystery and some of the work I have reas here has been brilliant. I take my hat off to people on this forum trying to search for the truth. To me, this is, on the face of it, the most obvious case of child neglect I have ever seen, yet we have as a society fallen in to then trap of believing what we are told by people such as these. Christmas message indeed, it beggars belief.Thank goodness for people who are interested enough to try to search for justice for the small, neglected child.
It makes me extremely angry.

Oh it is nice to hear that anil39200. For Louise Mensch seems to think we are all 'ghouls' for disbelieving dear Kate and Gerry. I for one am proud to be a ghoul, trying to find justice for a girl who, despite having such a well-known image, seems to have been largely forgotten by the general public!anil39200 wrote:candyfloss wrote:It's Christmas - again. And still on the McCanns begging site it states "Sadly, there is still no law enforcement agency in the world proactively looking for our daughter." So that is what they think of the £3.5 million review by Scotland Yard then.

Mmmmm, well maybe SY are not actually looking for Madeleine, they may be looking at what really did happen to her. A big difference and the McCanns know that it is.

Gillyspot, I can't find your quote on the McSite, have to be honest my eyes are tired from reading so much today on this forum that I'm skim reading. However, I'd love to know what people think of (I've just clicked on this part of the McSite) the 'Fill in Our Contact Form'. I was flabberghasted by this for many reasons but I'd like them to tell us exactly who the investigation team is?
Sorry if I've strayed off topic again.

It makes me extremely angry.
Well said anil, could not agree with you more

Yeap, if they meant the message for Madeleine they should have addressed Madeleine directly with personal message.
I fail to see how the Yard review is a positive note when Yard does not have the remit to investigate sightings; while the mccanns past detectives were sitting on leads, and successive detectives were not doing anything about them since files were not passed on.
This is only spin and yet more of their usual bull manure.
