McCanns to start NEW private search for Madeleine with the £750,000 they're got left - Sunday Mirror, 20 December 2015
Madeleine McCann’s parents are poised to launch a new private search for their daughter with the remaining £750,000 in their appeal fund.
Kate and Gerry McCann have set the money aside for another private search for their daughter with the £12 million Scotland Yard operation set to wind down.

Kate and Gerry, both 47, aim to begin a fresh initiative to solve the nine-year-old mystery as the £12 million Scotland Yard investigation winds down.
Plans are under way to use what is left of the No Stone Unturned fund, boosted by sales of Kate’s book Madeleine, to hire private detectives to probe several unanswered questions.
A source told the Sunday People : “There is £750,000 in the account. That money has been preserved because Kate and Gerry knew they may want to reopen an investigation at some point.
“They have always said they’ll do anything they can to keep going. That commitment remains.”
The number of British officers working on the investigation , named Operation Grange, has been reduced from 29 to four.

A further £2million has been guaranteed by the Home Office until April.
The source added: “We don’t know exactly when Operation Grange will end but while it continues it has the finest technology and analysts.
“Private investigations are expensive and do not have anything like the range and capabilities available to the Yard.
“The McCanns still feel there are a lot of questions that remain unanswered but they still have full confidence in the Metropolitan Police .”
Madeleine disappeared from their holiday apartment in the Portuguese resort of Praia da Luz in May 2007, shortly before her fourth birthday. Since then her parents have campaigned tirelessly.

Dr Martin Roberts: "The evidence is that these are the pjyamas Madeleine wore on holiday in Praia da Luz. They were photographed and the photo handed to a press agency, who released it on 8 May, as the search for Madeleine continued. The McCanns held up these same pyjamas at two press conferences on 5 & 7June 2007. How could Madeleine have been abducted?"

This sounds like a plea for further public donations to me.
Why would the parents of a missing child close down their private investigation just because the Met were running one. They ran their own investigation alongside the official Portuguese one, which was illegal in Portugal, so why close it down here? Doesn't sound like "no stone unturned" to me.
As for Operation Grange, what exactly have they done to help "find Madeleine"? There have been numerous stories in the press alleging that they are is closing in on the abductor, (albeit a different abductor every week for months on end) obviously alerting him to the fact and giving him prior notice so that he can hide away even further (if he exists that is) but what has been done to actually find Madeleine? Has Edgars' Hellish Lair been thoroughly investigated yet?
As for the Private Investigators, are they out of jail yet? Most of them turned out to be bogus or corrupt with many of them being imprisoned for various crimes, and the McCanns put these criminals in charge of finding their 4 year old?
So very transparent, we might as well have a great big "donate" sign in the headlines

“They have always said they’ll do anything they can to keep going. That commitment remains.”
As long as it does not include kate answering the 48 questions.
Kate, gerry and all the tapas 7 taking part in a police reconstruction.
Note there is a limitation as to what they can do to keep going.
They will do what they can rather than doing everything to keep going.
The limitation on what they can do is due to guilty knowledge, guilty involvement and fear of the consequences such as arrest, prosecution, jail, loss of custody of the twins, loss of their job, loss of their home, loss of their status.THIS is close, THAT is distant.
For there to be a THAT there has to be a THIS as well
A source told the Sunday People : “There is £750,000 in the account. That money has been preserved because Kate and Gerry knew they may want to reopen an investigation at some point.
For source read clarrie.
That is distancing, this is close.
That money has been preserved (£750,000) what about any other money?
Why did they know they had to 'preserve' that money?
Given the PJ and the Metropolitan Police were investigating the case and currently still are, how did the mccanns know they would need the money to reopen an investigation?
Did they know Maddie would not be found?
Did they know no 'abductor' would be found?
Not the inclusion of the qualifier MAY.
A qualifier is a word then when removed doesn't change the meaning of the sentence.
Here we have a considerable weakening of the sentence and statement as a whole.
He doesn't tell us that if the investigation is closed by the PJ and the Metropolitan Police the mccanns will then pay to hire investigators to try and find where they dumped Maddie.
He tells us only that they MAY reopen AN investigation. He doesn't tell us they would reopen THE investigation, only AN investigation.Any investigation by the mccanns investigators has been restricted to only looking for an alleged paedophile abductor and that the mccanns and friends are not to be investigated at all.
Because is highlighted in blue making it sensitive.
Because is used to explain why something happened or was done.
It preempts the question 'Why was the money being preserved?'
The are thinking ahead and answer the question before it is asked which makes it sensitive and warrants further questioning.
“The McCanns still feel there are a lot of questions that remain unanswered but they still have full confidence in the Metropolitan Police .”
Note, he speaks only of the Metropolitan police and fails to mention the Portuguese investigation in relation to having full confidence.
This indicates sensitivity.
They may have some input/control over the UK investigation, they have none with the Portuguese.
At best, in the UK they would face charges in relation to the fraudulent fund, other charges may be possible in relation to neglect of the children both in Portugal and also since they returned to the UK and social services got involved.
In Portugal they would face charges of homicide, concealment of a corpse and filing a false police report, other possible charges could relate to fundraising in Portugal, the boxes and buckets, obtaining money and services by deception and so on.
It is interesting to note he mentions a lot of questions that remain unanswered.
Leakage.
Until kate answers those 48 unanswered questions, they will hang round her neck like a millstone.
The word "but" should always be observed carefully, particularly observing the words that follow the word "but" in comparison to what preceded it.
It can refute what preceded it, or can be used to compare, or even negate what preceded it.
The claim she was advised not to answer the 48 questions by her attorney on the grounds it may incriminate her is in itself incriminating and implicating.
If she and gerry were innocent of involvement in the death, disposal and subsequent cover up, then there would be nothing incriminating to arrest and charge them.
Innocent parents do not have to worry about saying anything incriminating.
They would answer each and every question put to them.
However, guilty parents do have to worry about incriminating themselves.Their attorneys will advise them to say nothing, to not answer even the most innocuous of questions as there is great risk of open mouth insert feet and incriminate oneself.
Kate is between a rock and a hard place.
If she refuses to answer the questions she implicates and incriminates herself.
If she answers the questions she implicates and incriminates herself as all the discrepancies are revealed.
As it stands, her refusal to answer the 48 questions makes her look as guilty as heck, especially with the excuse given.
It has, and will, continue to haunt her until Maddie is found and all those involved are behind bars.
Note also the qualifier FEEL which weakens the statement.
I would ask what questions they feel have been unanswered?
I would ask if they consider the questions unanswered include the 48 asked of kate?
I would ask if kate would be willing to answer the 48 questions she refused to answer as well as any new ones.
I would also ask gerry and the tapas 7 the exact same questions along with any others i could think of.
I would also ask gerry why he answered all his questions yet kate, who allegedly discovered Maddie was missing refused to answer all hers bar one.
If i wasn't such a suspicious Hobs, i would think it was so their answers could not be cross checked and all the discrepancies revealed in all their glory and a swift end to the investigation.
Now, this wouldn't be something akin to the truth would it?

Re: McCanns to start NEW private search for Madeleine with the £750,000 they're got left - Sunday Mirror, 20 December 2015
Yet another re-hash of old news? The only apparent difference is the reserved sum a few weeks ago was claimed to be £1m but now it's said to be £750k.
Three official investigations (if you include the re-opening of the case in Portugal) down the line, numerous private detectives, unofficial probes by a variety of ex-police/criminal profilers/criminologists etc, documentaries galore, public pleas by the Metropolitan police and associated offices, media blitz - what do the McCanns think they can achieve that hasn't already been covered?
So, they have reserved a large sum to continue a private investigation in the event of Operation Grange being annulled? Something tells me they knew all along that the Met were never going to solve the case. Ho-hum!
Disgusted of Tunbridge Wells.

They just don`t realise how transparent they are do they.
I suppose they`ll be asking for all the Met files so they can see what the Met have covered. No point going over the same ground twice, they`ll say. I wouldn`t be surprised if they got some Judge or other to order the MET to hand them over.

ETA: We have always found it strange the way the couple were treated, even after they were placed under investigation, and we have often wondered how the McCanns could have had access to information that had not been made public.

Kate once said that she would sell their house if required (not mentioning the mortgage that they have to repay at the time) - let's see if they sell it now.

That would mean using their own money for the "search". It hasn't happened in the past 8 years and will never happen.

Of course they will hire a new set of PIs, not to investigate, but to refute all that Grange has discovered from Portugal. No doubt they know exactly what Portugal has on file, now they are going to work to "alibi" the lot of it..
Whitewash from the start. It costs alot more to tell a lie and hide what happened than to pour out the truth. This is why grange costs so much. So many people to pay

She may do, but I think that the first book was an attempt to answer all those questions that were being asked at the time. Since then, hundreds more questions have arisen as we dig deeper and deeper. With every word they speak or write, they just put create more problems for themselves.
I imagine that we will most likely see a pathetic Newspaper or TV campaign playing on public sympathy, perhaps over Christmas.
Re: McCanns to start NEW private search for Madeleine with the £750,000 they're got left - Sunday Mirror, 20 December 2015
Kate and Gerry McCann did not search for 3 year old Maddie on the night she disappeared, and left it to perfect strangers to hunt high and low for their child, whilst they stayed put throughout that 'dark' night.
Oh well, one can only assume they had far bigger priorities on the crucial night of the 'old search.'

Needless to say the Sunday Express is hot pursuit with this latest 'exclusive' headline. Sorry if anyone's at lunch, this could seriously upset the digestive system..
KATE and Gerry McCann are fighting to find Maddie as the £12million Scotland Yard operation to look for their daughter comes to an end...
The McCann’s are using the last £750,000 in their appeal fund to pay for a private search operation – with the couple hoping the hunt will solve the nine-year-old mystery over their daughters disappearance....
A source close to the family said: “There is £750,000 in the account. That money has been preserved because Kate and Gerry knew they may want to reopen an investigation at some point. "They have always said they’ll do anything they can to keep going. That commitment remains."
The operations is expected to end in April, forcing Kate and Gerry McCann to step in.
The source added: “We don’t know exactly when Operation Grange will end but while it continues it has the finest technology and analysts.
“Private investigations are expensive and do not have anything like the range and capabilities available to the Yard.
“The McCanns still feel there are a lot of questions that remain unanswered but they still have full confidence in the Metropolitan Police.”
It comes after the McCann’s revealed in a heart rending message how they bitterly miss sharing their daughter's excitement in the run up to Christmas....
Blah blah blah blah.

Hiring a few dodgy private detectives, a string of wealthy supporters along with their legal teams and parking the bum on day time sofas talking about your own suffering, whilst publicizing a random selection of photographs of various stages of your child's life, does not constitute searching.
I strongly suspect the requirement is more for hiding than seeking.

What strikes me is why an exact amount of £750,000 is quoted all over the place. Why do they want it known they have that much left. I thought some months ago they said they had set aside more than that. Anyway found this on another thread - seems they set aside money FROM the fund - I interpret that as there being two stashes of money - the Fund and the money set aside from the Fund.
Letting it be known to the world how much money they have left is odd IMO. Maybe something to do with the outcome of Goncalo`s Appeal.

Madeleine McCann's parents ready to continue search if police end investigation into her disappearance

A spokesman said the couple accepted police could not continue to fund an investigation indefinitely and have set aside cash to continue the search themselves
The parents of [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] are preparing for the police probe into their daughter’s disappearance to be shelved, their spokesman said today.
Kate and Gerry McCann continue to pump thousands of pounds into a special fund for use when the official investigation, codenamed Operation Grange and launched more than four years ago, [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Family spokesperson Clarence Mitchell said today: “They realise it cannot go on forever.”
He added: “Kate and Gerry remain incredibly grateful to [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] for their continuing work and effort and are grateful to everyone who continues to make Operation Grange possible.
“The Government and police make the decision about funding, it is not Kate and Gerry’s role.”
He told how former GP Kate and heart doctor Gerry, both 37, of Rothley, Leics, had moved money from the publicly-backed Find Maddie Fund into a special account in anticipation of having to finance the hunt for their daughter themselves.
Mr Mitchell said: “In a common sense and practical move, they have kept some money back from the Find Madeleine Fund in case it is needed for an ongoing search.”
A source close to the family said: “Kate and Gerry firmly believe Madeleine could still be alive and when the police investigation ends, they have vowed to continue looking for her.
"They don’t know when this will be, there has been so suggestion yet, but they want to be ready and have set aside huge chunks of money for this reason.”
Three-year-old Maddie was snatched during a family holiday in Portugal’s Praia da Luz in May 2007. She would now be aged 12.
As Maddie’s parents brace themselves for being told Operation Grange will end, the family source said: “Kate and Gerry know the investigation will come to an end at some point, especially with police budget cuts but they haven’t been advised when.”
A [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] spokesperson said: “The Home Office remains committed to supporting the search for Madeleine McCann.
"Over the last four years we have given the Metropolitan Police the resources they say they need to investigate her disappearance, and we continue to do so.”
Sources in Portugal today insisted there was no evidence to suggest Operation Grange was going to be shelved in the short or medium term."

Yep, all it would cost them is the stamp for a letter according to Dr Amaral.BlueBag wrote:The McCanns only need ask.Tony Bennett wrote:In name only - just for appearances' sake.BlueBag wrote:The Portuguese investigation is still on-going.

Then they could keep their £750k of fraudulently obtained money to buy a bigger house.

How do you get all that Legal Aid, when you have that much money sat in the bank?

A quick question:
Will MET ever release the OG files for the public?
If yes,when?

I don't think the British police do that.NickE wrote:Iám not from the UK.

And I think the McCanns were probably shocked when the Portuguese police released their files.

Funds are categorized as 'restricted' and 'unrestricted', quite usual for a bona fide registered charity - which the Find Madeleinefighting Fund isn't but is reckoned to be administered on similar lines. Restricted funds are, I believe, basically donated for a specified purpose. Most likely here the amount named is the proceeds from book sales that was donated by Kate McCann as restricted funds. Having said that, as Find Madeleine Fund Co. Ltd is seriously lacking in transparency your guess is as good as mine as to management of the fund.
Somehow I don't think we will ever know.

I feel sure this "report" is recycled and pops up occasionally in an attempt to replenish the Fund. Who is responsible for this? I've just done a search to locate the same story that was discussed earlier this year (27th April), and found a similar thread about the MCs topping up the Fund with £1 million, dated 19th January 2013. If someone would kindly post the links as I'm using tablet.
The tenth anniversary is close and will be marked, probably involving fundraising, IMO.

As far as i am aware, the Met cannot and does not have any influence in regard to Maddie's death and disposal investigation.
The case is and always has been under the jurisdiction of the Portuguese Police, only they can arrest and bring charges against the mccanns and chums in relationto the homicide, concealment of a corpse and filing a false police report.
Even if the Met end their investigation, the Portugues one is still active and, as it should be, they are saying nothing regarding how their investigation is going.
Something with bothers and annoys the mccanns intensely.
How can they spin an investigation in their favor, counter any leaks that point to their guilt, when they do not know what has been found.
At best all the mccanns can do in relation to the Met ending their investigation is talk the talk and hide the money and then claim it is/has been spent on hiring private detectives.
I suspect that having learned lessons from their previous private dickheads, they won't be hauling them out into the public eye and having them spout garbage.
Private detectives like to keep a low profile since to be outed makes their job harder if everyone knows what they look and sound like.
The mccanns will not be spending any actual money on their supposed search since the Met could b not arrest and charge then with homicide, concealment of a corpse and filing a false police report.
At best they would advise their Portuguese colleagues of what they have found and then have the Portuguese apply for a EAW.
The Met could only arrest and charge them in relation to the fraudulent fund and possibly obtaining money and services by deception and maybe, just maybe obstruction of justice and perverting the course of justice in regard to the fund.
This would also likely involve charging clarrie as well.
The mccanns are talking garbage knowing they have no need to spend any money.
They would only 'need to' should the Portuguese investigation be shelved.
It is typical distraction by the mccanns and also typical of their annual Christmas appeal.
Look over here, not over there.

TB wrote that the Portuguese were only going throgh the motions... so Operation Grange could tediously and expensively do its thing... or rather do not much more than nothing. Doubltless he will correct this comment if it is wrong. Round and round in ridiculous circles. I think there is not really enough evidence to proceed further, and I doubt we shall ever know what happened to Madelene.

Tony isn't letting things lie though. He's poking things with a pin - and I agree with him. This shouldn't be left to dwindle. Almost 5 years of Operation Grange and - nothing. He's right to question things with FOI's and he's not the only one sticking in FOI requests.comperedna wrote:TB wrote that the Portuguese were only going throgh the motions... so Operation Grange could tediously and expensively do its thing... or rather do not much more than nothing. People get the wrong end of the stick sometimes. It's what happened to Madeleine that is being asked - and rightly so, after around £12 million has been spent in the most unprecedented way. No-one begrudges Madeleine a single penny of finding the truth.
I question why the UK CPS went to Portugal.
