A MOVING song penned by a Wearside musician for missing tot Madeleine McCann has gone soaring to the top of the charts.
Warehouse worker Nigel Graham first set a heartfelt poem to music in 2008, a year after little Madeleine went missing.
Now the stirring plea to her kidnapper is in the top five of social networking site Twitter’s Tweet My Song chart.
We’re Still Looking for You Madeleine has received thousands of hits from eager fans, who can either listen to the song or download it for free.
It features a young girl called Katie singing a poem by Janet Marie James, a campaigner hoping to keep the search for Madeleine in the spotlight. Nigel met Janet through video clip sharing site You Tube.
The 42-year-old, from High Usworth in Washington, said: “It’s a free song I composed to help raise awareness for the Madeleine McCann campaign.
“I wanted to help them out, so I composed a song to remind the public every time they hear Madeleine’s song that she still needs their help.
“Now four years on it’s gone to number one in Twitter’s Tweet My Song charts.
“It’s had 84,000 hits and the version on Twitter is the children’s version of the song.
“The poem was done by You-Tuber Janet Marie James and the main vocals in this version was done by a girl called Katie.”
Self-taught musician Nigel, who has also recorded an anthem for the 2012 Olympics, has passed his ode on to Madeleine’s friends and family.
He admits he has no idea why his song has soared to popularity years after it was written.
But he hopes its global success will play a part in helping to find the youngster.
“I think people just like the song. The people in U.S. love it.
“It’s my song of hope for Madeleine and it carries a important message - kids should be able to go on holiday free of fear and build sandcastles and splash in the sea, having the time of their lives.
“One day my song for Madeleine will reach a part of the world where someone holds key information. They will hear the music and words and hopefully do the right thing.
“I emailed the Find Madeleine team and they think it’s amazing. They are over the moon.
“I still have hopes of finding Madeleine one day. The song keeps the message out there we will never stop searching.”
* Madeleine McCann disappeared in May 2007.
She was on holiday with her parents and twin siblings in the Algarve region of Portugal.
She went missing from an apartment, in the central area of the resort of Praia da Luz, a few days before her fourth birthday.
Madeleine’s parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, both doctors, admitted that they left the children unsupervised while they ate at a restaurant around 100 metres away.
Despite investigations by British and Portuguese police and private investigators, Madeleine has still not been found.
The McCanns were declared suspects at one point and have since criticised police.
Madeleine’s disappearance remains one of the most high-profile missing child cases in Europe.

Re: Washington musician’s song for missing Madeleine McCann tops chart
Oh gawd. That's nearly as bad as when the McCanns (just weeks after Madeleine's disappeaance) came up with the idea to re-release the Bryan Adams hit 'Everything I Do, I Do It For You' "Look into my eyes". They couldn't have chosen a more iconic song to get into the conciousness of the masses: Sixteen consecutive weeks at number one on the UK singles chart (the longest in British chart history) & a massive chart hit internationally.
Speaking to Sky News, Mr McCann said: "That song, at the
minute, best reflects how Kate and I feel emotionally and how determined
we are to continue searching for Madeleine."
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6230664.stm
'The first line "look into my eyes" is thought to be particularly relevant because of Madeleine's unusual iris in her right eye.'
"Look into my eyes," read the images: "Olha para os meus olhos."
There were rumours that the Bryan Adams song "(Everything I Do) I Do it
For You", which begins with those words, would be re-released in support
of the campaign.
And Gerry's imfamous statement:
Late in 2007, Gerry McCann gave an interview to
an American magazine and talked about the decision to publicise the eye
defect. "Certainly we thought it was possible that [the publicity] could
possibly hurt her or her abductor might do something to her eye . . .
But in terms of marketing, it was a good ploy."http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2009/dec/22/madeleine-mccann-icons-of-the-decade
And more recently we have the Piers Morgan?McCann interview:
K. MCCANN: If I'm honest, we haven't put too much emphasis on her eye,
because I think you have to be very close to her to see it. But her
eyes are slightly different colors, and one of them has this brown fleck
in it. But you do notice, particularly on photographs, but --
MORGAN: Slightly distinctive eye colors and a little fleck.
MORGAN: And do you know if that would be still there if she's now eight years old?
G.
MCCANN: Certainly believe it wouldn't have changed. I think there's
been a pattern to be still there. That it's -- the technical term is
coloboma, where there's a defect in the iris. I don't think it is
actually. I think it's actually an additional bit of color. She
certainly had no visual problems.
I know I'm not posting anything that hasn't already been discussed here, but this turn around by the McCanns is so bizarre and unfathomable that I feel it needs repeating over & over.
Thanks for the info Rosa.
ps - sorry for differing text sizes, dunno what happpened there?

The need for a good memory
I couldn't agree more, Daisy. It must be hard for anyone who's economical with the truth to keep track of what they've said on numerous issues over a considerable period, but with the enormous emphasis and advertising attached to the coloboma story, it is very hard to believe that the McCanns could possibly have forgotten it.

Re: Washington musician’s song for missing Madeleine McCann tops chart
This whole coloboma thing still has me baffled the most, I have to confess. Partly because they are not able to hide their deceit behind convoluted legalese anymore. Partly because they are shown for what I always thought they were: rather stupid and mediocre doctors. But above all because it shows their complete lack of care for Madeleine (yes I know, there were many more signs) and there is only one conclusion possible: they know she could not be found alive, which brings us back to stupid etc.
Gerry, you fool, what do you think your fellow cardiologists say of you now they heard that you really could not diagnose a coloboma in your own daughter. A diagnosis that might indicated she might have heart problems too. What kind of cardiologist are you? I have said before: you don't end up in nuclear imaging because great diagnostic or therapeutic skills (or good bedside manners) and you illustrated that perfectly.
Kate, pathetic example of a doctor/mom, you didn't know either?? You should ask your tuition back.
So you 2 lied either then or now. Now you both are lying about not giving it much of an emphasis. Do you both really think no one notices?? The general public is clearly much smarter than you two. And how do you think your fellow doctors feel about falsifying a diagnosis because "it is a good marketing ploy". They would loose their license if they did, as you both should.
But then you're Kate and Gerry McCann, you think nothing will stick to them.
Till the day of reckoning comes, and it will come, don't ever doubt that.
