THE father of a British girl who went missing in Germany 30 years ago wants the Prime Minister to meet with her family as he did with the parents of Madeline McCann.
David Cameron promised to look into the case of Hartlepool youngster Katrice Lee, who disappeared from a British Army base in Germany in 1981, during Prime Minister’s Questions today.
It comes as Spanish police received a report of a possible sighting in the Costa Del Sol of missing youngster Madeline McCann, who went missing in Portugal in 2007.
Katrice’s family have battled for the Military Police to release files relating to the two-year-old’s disappearance for the past three decades.
Now her dad Richard Lee, from the Stockton Road area of Hartlepool, says Mr Cameron should meet with Katrice’s mum, just as he did with the parents of Madeline McCann.
Mr Lee, 62, said: “What I would like to see that Prime Minister do is at least give Katrice’s mother an interview.
“If Maddy McCann’s parents can go and see the Prime Minister then Katrice’s mother should be able to as well.
“There seems to be a two-tier system with missing children, those who have and those who have not.
“And I don’t say this to be nasty or bitter, but the McCanns have spent millions of pounds on their campaign.
“They’ve had better treatment and better media coverage.
“We haven’t been at this for four years, we’ve been at this for three decades, and I think the way that this family has been treated is despicable.”
Caroline Dinenage, who is the local MP for Katrice’s mother, Sharon, of Gosport, Hampshire, raised the issued in the House of Commons yesterday.
Mr Cameron met the McCanns while he was campaigning as the leader of the opposition.
When the McCanns sent him an open letter after he became Prime Minister he replied saying that the Metropolitan Police would be re-investigating the disappearance.

As I mentioned on 8th February, this case illustrates what normally happens when children disappear.

DC has opened a can of worms.
Is he now going to be impartial to all parents with a missing child who approached him for help? Let's see!

Will Sharon, Sara Payne and Winnie Johnson also be invited to number 10 on International Missing Children's Day? It worries me that as team mc always hog the limelight and gatecrash various events for others that DC won't be able to sanction SY agreeing with the PJ's results.

Sorry about mentioning Sara Payne - her child's body was found, but poor Winnie still hasn't found where her son's buried.

Who's the Sharon that you mentioned, Jay2001?

Re: PM promises to look into Katrice Lee case
Sharon is Katrice Lee's mum.
It must be really galling for other parents of missing children to see the disparity in treatment between the McCanns and themselves. Good on Katrice's dad for standing up for himself and drawing attention to their struggle for attention after all these years.

And the Matthews woman ? Her daughter was reported missing, if you remember.
Just because she was subsequently found doesn't alter that fact.
Equal treatment for all, I say !

Sorry Jean and thanks uppatoffee - just catching up after being out and getting drenched!
Also forgot Kerry Needham, as she's been treated abysmally by various governments. Keep having senior moments and forgetting all sorts and there's plenty of confusion already in this case.
As for Karen Matthews she'd probably get on like a house on fire with the lady chav. It tickles me (not) that Tom Wells the Sun journo writes a lot about vile mum Matthews and yet lauds the lady who inspired the vile mum. Bunch of two faced hypocrites taking murkymoney and perpetuating the propaganda.
Also forgot Kerry Needham, as she's been treated abysmally by various governments. Keep having senior moments and forgetting all sorts and there's plenty of confusion already in this case.

Good to see that this case has been re-opened:
(And no mention of another missing little girl to hijack the story.)

Out of interest. Aside from Katrice Lee, Madeleine McCann and Ben Needham, does anyone know of any other British children who have disappeared abroad and never been found?

Re: PM promises to look into Katrice Lee case
I certainly can't think of any other cases offhand.
I presume that CCTV wasn't widespread in 1981 - it could have helped to solve the mystery.
So strange that this case received little, if any, coverage at the time and for many years thereafter.

Remember watching this at the time, the mom and sister of Katrice Lee on This Morning...... notice how many mentions of Madeleine McCann.

Maybe the family have complained about the amount of time and money spent on Maddie's case compared to their child's disappearance?

NFWTD, I think perhaps this might have been because the family were actually living in Germany, not just on holiday like the McCanns.

Re: PM promises to look into Katrice Lee case
Maybe so but, as a British army family, I'd have thought they would have had the same coverage as if they had lived in the U K.
I think that the Needham family was actually planning to settle on Kos; they weren't only there on holiday and even they got more coverage than the Lees.

Fair comment NFWTD.
It was thirty years ago though, maybe we weren't old enough to notice the news so much at the time? And there was no Crimewatch, internet.
Different times I suppose.

on this morning clip
They stated maddy WAS a stranger abduction abroad! if pm going to help this family now as well that shows hes not being unfair and presumably missing people are still helping them all as well.

Sheila - I can never understand your comments at the best of times, they are so garbled and muddled, but my take on what you say here is the complete opposite to what everyone else is saying on this forum. "Stranger abduction abroad", that only gives the impression that SY are still looking at an abduction and you saying the PM is going to help this family now that shows he's not being unfair (yet, they're going with "stranger abduction") - are you on the same planet as the rest of us??
Or have I got the wrong end of what you're saying?

That's rather unfair and uncalled for Newintown, wasn't sheila talking about the Katrice Lee case and the PM helping them? That was according to them a stranger abduction abroad. That's what i understood.

Many apologies to Sheila, I got confused as to who we were talking about with so many messages to catch up with. I haven't posted for some time. I still find most of her postings very difficult to understand/decifer though, as someone else commented a while ago.
ETA: I thought I wasn't going mad, I've just re-read Sheila's post and it was stated that "Maddy" was a stranger abduction on the "this morning" clip. I do now understand that it wasn't Sheila's quote but what was said on the programme - sorry Sheila!

Sadly I can't say that I was too young to notice - I have a son who was 3 when Katrice disappeared!suzyjohnson wrote:Fair comment NFWTD.

I may be wrong but I simply don't remember there being any coverage at the time.

Oh, I see, and you would probably have remembered then, I found that somehow the news always hits home when you have a child yourself of similar age
