Madeleine McCann Scotland Yard review to be led by cold case expert detective
A TOP detective who helped catch a murderer will lead the new hunt for Madeleine McCann.
The toddler vanished from her family’s holiday flat in Praia da Luz in the Algarve on May 3, 2007.
But the official inquiry was formally shelved in July 2008.
However Prime Minister David Cameron has now asked Scotland Yard to review the disappearance of Madeleine because of what he termed the “exceptional” nature of the case.
And it has been confirmed it will be led by Detective Chief Inspector Andy Redwood, from the Homicide and Serious Crime Command.
He has previously conducted an investigation which caught murderer Miguel da Silva after a cold case review. The killer, who went on the run for 15 years after strangling mother-of-two Susan Martin, 44, in 1994, was jailed for life at the Old Bailey last November and told he must serve at least 16 years behind bars.
The intervention of the government has sparked criticism, led by Metropolitan Police Authority member Lord Harris.
He said Mr Cameron’s intervention “drives a coach and horses through the draft protocol issued by the Home Office designed to preserve the operational independence of the police”.
But Anfield-born Kate, whose parents live in Mossley Hill and her husband Gerry have welcomed the development and described it as a “step in the right direction”.

A truly dodgy suspicious story from start to finish. I don't trust ANYONE in this case. That poor poor lovely little girl. I'd like to give advice to the parents and that is too stop acting like celebrities and question your own actions from the day of 'abduction' to the present day government invlovement. I smell a rat, a big fat jigger one and the stench is getting worse by the day.

I think any money that's around should be spent on preventing child abduction, educating parents more in this area, working together better with international agencies and police forces throughout the world to ensure this issue is a priority.
I think if this government wants to re-open investigations, they should start with other cases eg Ben Needham whose family I feel would clearly benefit from an investigation of this nature. I am sure that they did not get anywhere near as much help and support as the McCanns who have already had millions spent on the search for Madeline.
I think real lessons need to be learnt here and responsibility and committment from ALL people and agencies involved in the safety and well being of any child should be the utmost priority.
The Madeline case should not to be used as a tool to gain votes and support from the public

I hope they find Madeleine alive and well.
Every parent has a duty of care to/for their children. You dont leave them unattended in a strange place so as you can self indulge and self gratify yourself. You certainly should not expect decent parents to feel sorry for you when you make a rediculous claim that every parent leaves their children alone in a hotel room unattended.

I believe that they left the girl unattended while they went with friends for dinner. They did not use the hotel baby sitter system and the patio door was unlocked. If that is fact it seems a little late to create all this fuss although the millions of pounds are funding a search. I am fed up with it.
