I am only halfway through the book. I feel I am being duped. As unpopular as this might be I feel very uncomfortable with the lack of transparency and the tease of things to come.

Sorry to say I disbelieve the motive.

I haven't read the book; I don't understand why the police are not at the suspected burial site? Anything could happen there - it has perhaps already been disturbed. What if there really is a body there? Or, what if a body has been removed?

Why would the Portuguese police do anything on the whim of a Norwegian expat who claims to have contact with someone or other in their ranks? It doesn't make sense.

That's my point; it doesn't. The police don't seem to be - and probably aren't - taking Bernt seriously. But at the same time, neither have they acted to disprove his theory. I find it all quite peculiar.

Why would the police take Bernt Stellander's book seriously?

We only have Bernt's word that he has got the McCann's on camera visiting the Rocha Negra.
If that is true , it is very significant but only If they are doing something suspicious.
There is no law forbidding them to go there as far as I know.
He really does need to show what he's got, his reason for not doing so, he say's, is to give the McCann's some time, but why do them any favours?
The point of the book is to expose the McCann's isn't it, not give them time to consider what to do.
How much time is he going to give them, I'm afraid the whole thing is losing momentum.
I hope I'm wrong and he will act soon.

....and after watching him constantly sniffing in interviews I think he needs a dose of Vick.

Liz Eagles asks 'Why would the police take the book seriously'. Exactly. So, they should disprove it then. Do something - announce to the world that it's ridiculous, or that they have looked into the theory and found nothing. They know much more than we do, and if they think Bernt is wrong, they are likely to be correct. As Crusader says, Bernt needs to act soon. This shouldn't be a case of 'tune in for the next instalment in four weeks time'. That's just imo, of course.

I'm not ready just yet to give up on him, but it does sound like a really well researched novel with a twist at the end.
I have to confess, the part that interests me most is the camping out and cameras on Rocha Negra capturing Golden Nuggetts and the McCann's.

At the end of the interview he said that he had been unwell and had been suffering from a sinus infection!

PeterMac has got a very sharp bullshitometer and he would not be investing any time working with Bernt if he didn't think this case had merit.

Lots of things.

I'm hoping he can solve it.

I think what he has done (and still doing) is extremely interesting and positive.

By the way, I'm just as impatient as you guys are. I desperately want to see the field cam images on the website. I want to see the PJ and dogs searching the sites. I want to see the sites dug. I want to see justice for Madeleine. I want to see the perpetrators of this awful crime brought to justice and for this case to be laid to rest along with this 3-year-old girl who none of us knew yet have devoted almost two decades of our time to learning the truth about what really happened to her.

Can you grasp how much work all that will entail?

BUT, Bernt has to work to his plan. This is his gig and he can't succumb to pressure which would jeopardise all the work he's already done.

There are many things going on, and Peter will tell us when the time is right.

We've all been here for 17 years already, so a little while longer isn't going to hurt us...or Maddie, for that matter, since she was already dead before we even knew her name.

First up, the next podcast with James English where Bernt will divulge new info.

But there is more to come. There is stuff going on behind the scenes that we will know about when the time is right.

I would say to those who have lost interest, or can't read the book because there's too many words...please go and chat on a different thread.

I am really sorry to say this, and I have hesitated before posting this because I wouldn't like anyone to blow a gasket as it were but I thought Bernt had everything planned out with military precision. I didn't realise his investigation was not complete.

Obviously, investigation might mean the bringing in of the specialist dogs and attempting to dig up the ground in order to find the remains but I'm not entirely clear what Bernt is or isn't doing about this.

Hopefully, Bernt has got all this planned out, has a clear plan of the way forward, all will be revealed in due course and it's only a matter of time before he solves the case.

In my opinion from reading Bernt book it is clear that his investigation was ongoing and entering a new phase with release of his book and subsequent interview, I take my hat off to him having the tenacity and resilience to investigate for years on his lonesome, it must have been really frustrating for him and hard not being able to share it with the world until the time was right although I personally think it was a very wise choice not to share it until he was ready as the old saying goes Loose lips sinks ships!

Bernt's investigation will only be complete when Maddie's remains have been recovered.

Bernt's investigation is therefore not complete because the spots he's identified are yet to be evaluated by the dogs.

So, yes, the dogs need to be brought in next.

First he needs to persuade the PJ to do it themselves.

If not, then he'll do it himself.

Can you imagine the humiliation for the PJ if Bernt brings in his own dogs and media if the dogs alerted to the sites Bernt has identified?

I think serious questions would be asked.

That's my take on it anyway.
