A sick troll has posed as Madeleine McCann just to send abusive messages to her devastated parents Kate and Gerry.
The cruel comments appeared under a picture of the missing girl's parents at a restaurant in Scotland.
Doctors Kate and Gerry were snapped eating out in pictures uploaded to Facebook on Saturday night.
Among the 3,700 comments was an abusive profile set up under the name of Madeleine, who was just three-years-old when she vanished from a hotel room in the Algarve region of Portugal in 2007.
Her parents, who live in Rothley in Leicestershire, were dining with friends in a restaurant at the time.
The callous comment read: "Mum and dad are closer than I thought".
It's not known who set up the fake account, but a deep dive into the profile revealed a catalogue of horrific racist and homophobic posts, including multiple depraved jokes about the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York.
Other sick comments joke about being in a relationship with paedophile Jimmy Saville and David Bowie's death.
While some social media laughed at the repulsive posts, others called it out, branding the online monster "absolutely disgusting" and "bloody sick".
Another wrote: "The poor girl could be dead and you're sat here making up stupid accounts you horrible person."
While another posted: "I'm shocked at the amount of sick minded people. A 3-year-old has been missing for 12 years, I dread to think what she's been through if she's still alive."
Pictures show Kate and Gerry pair carrying plates of food back to their table believed to be at the Beijing Banquet in Renfrew.
The post has racked up 1,300 likes and has been shared over 3,200 times since being uploaded on Saturday evening.
Sadly, this is not the first time a twisted online account has been set up in Madeleine's name.
Earlier this year the Record exposed a fake Tinder dating account claiming to be Maddie, aged 18.
The distasteful profile, with the bio "just want some loving, I have daddy issues, here for a good yin", came up in searches on the app for people seeking dates in Glasgow.
It comes after Netflix released an eight-part documentary series on the infamous case in March this year, featuring theories behind the toddler's disappearance and interviews with multiple key players from the investigation.
Madeleine disappeared from a holiday apartment where she was sleeping with her two younger siblings in Praia da Luz in May 2007.
Kate and Gerry were dining with friends at a nearby tapas restaurant when she vanished from her bed. They did not approve of the documentary and chose not take part.
Last month Kate and Gerry thanked the public for 'being by our side' after being granted a £300,000 fund to continue their search.
The couple vowed to continue the worldwide hunt "for as long as it takes".

The news is gradually filtering through the tabloid grapevine, collecting myth as it rolls along..

Kate and Gerry McCann were pictured eating out at Beijing Banquet in Renfrew, near Glasgow, on Saturday night and a Facebook troll used the images to torment the parents of Madeleine McCann, who disappeared during a family holiday to Portugal in May 2007. The abuser shared snaps of the couple carrying plates of buffet food back to their table, alongside the caption: “Mum and dad are closer than I thought.” A family source told The Sun Kate and Gerry are “shocked and saddened” by the heartless post.
Three-year-old Madeleine disappeared from a hotel room in the Algarve region of Portugal twelve years ago and would now be 16-years-old.
She had been left sleeping alone with her younger twin siblings while her parents were eating in a nearby tapas restaurant with friends.
The callous comment that accompanied the pictures of Kate and Gerry, who live in Rothley in Leicestershire, has been described as “despicable”.
A family source said: “Kate and Gerry are both shocked and saddened that someone could stoop this low.
“It seems they can’t even enjoy a meal out with family on the eve of Remembrance Sunday without some lunatic abusing them and for what purpose? They find it despicable.”
The source added: “It’s more than sickening and sad that a time to remember our war heroes people are hitting out at Madeleine’s parents.
“It’s been going on since day one and they wonder if it will ever cease.
“It’s cruel, it’s callous, it’s mindless.”
Thousands of people commented on the images, posted under the name of Madeleine, and many condemned the troll for writing such a heartless post.
One person wrote: “The poor girl could be dead and you’re sat here making up stupid accounts you horrible person.”
Another said: “I’m shocked at the amount of sick minded people.
“A three-year-old has been missing for 12 years, I dread to think what she’s been through if she’s still alive.”
Since Madeleine’s disappearance British police have been involved in working on the unsolved case.
Their enquiry is known as Operation Grange, and it continues to be funded by the Home Office as an open investigation.
The investigation has already cost the Home Office nearly £12million and in July Operation Grange was given a £300,000 funding boost.
Police Commissioner Cressida Dick said: “We have active lines of inquiries and I think the public would expect us to see those through.
“A very small team continues to work on this case with Portuguese colleagues and we have put in an application to the Home Office for further funding.”
The Home Office said that, although the decision will not be finalised until October, the Metropolitan Police “will receive a similar level of funding for Operation Grange for 2019/20 as it did for the previous year”.
Madeleine’s parents have voted to carry on looking for their daughter “for as long as it takes
