30 January 2014

Dear Mr Bennett

Thank-you for your email dated 3 January 2014 to the Mayor's Office for Policing And Crime (MOPAC) with a Freedom of Information request relating to Operation Grange.

I am responding to this request under the Freedom of Information Act and can confirm that MOPAC does hold some information relating to your request.

1. Does the Mayor's Office for Policing and Crime monitor in any way the progress of Operation Grange?
2. If so how?
3. On what occasions has the Mayor's Office for Policing And Crime discussed Operation Grange?

Answer: The Mayor's Office for Policing And Crime is not responsible for operational policing matters or individual cases; operational decision-making on day-to-day policing matters remains the responsibility of the Commissioner of Police; however, from time to time the Deputy Mayor for Policing And Crime is updated in general terms on matters of interest; no records are held by MOPAC of such updates.

4. and 5. Has either DCI Andy Redwood or any other Metropolitan Police Officer met with the Mayor or any member of his staff re Operation Grange since it was set up on 11 May 2011, and if so on what dates?

Answer: On 13 June 2013, there was a telephone call between the Mayor and Police Commissioner Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe, at which, inter alia, the recent investigative work on Operation Grange was mentioned.

On 24 June 2013, there was a meeting between the Mayor and Police Commissioner Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe, at which, inter alia, the enquiry was mentioned.

On 3 October 2013, there was a meeting between the Mayor and Police Commissioner Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe, at which it was mentioned that Operation Grange was likely to feature in a Crimewatch appeal.

On 21 October 2013, there was a meeting between the Mayor and Police Commissioner Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe, at which the Mayor was alerted to the Crimewatch appeal and related publicity.

MOPAC does not hold any other information on this matter.
