If the Smiths, 15 months after May 3rd '07, were indeed "working for" the McCanns, then here was the perfect opportunity for Mitchell to have responded that they had changed their opinion of Gerry being the man they saw...

This interview was actually over 16 months after Madeleine was reported missing. It was on 16 September 2008, shortly after the PJ files (or most of them) had been released on a DVD, and McCann researchers were feverishly translating and studying these files.

Interestingly, it was also the month (we are told) that the Smiths did the efits.

Now let's have the relevant facts.

1 Martin Smith WAS working for and co-operating with Brian Kennedy, Kevin Halligen and Henri Exton

2 Operation Grange have told us that the Smiths did the efits in the same month, September 2008

3 Just 7 months later, the McCanns made HUGE use of the Smithman sighting in the C4/Mentorn Media documentary AND by using the Smithman sighting (with the age of the man changed downwards fro 40 to 34/5) on their website

4 Smith kept completely schtumm about this gross misuse of his ID of Gerry MvCann, not raising even a whisper of protest against his sighting being used to shamelessly promote the abduction narrative.

The McCanns have certainly never made "Huge use" of the Smith sighting!
Kate doesn't even reproduce the efits in her book and glosses over it by trying to imply he was the same man as Jane had seen. In fact, the excerpt from the Mitchell interview which I posted above shows how team McCann went to great pains to downplay and undermine it. This interview was in August '08, just one month before the efits were allegedly drawn up. If the Smiths were now on board and the McCann plan was to push their sighting, then why on earth would Mitchell, just one month before the efits were made, be downplaying and undermining the sighting.
The clear inference from Mitchell's response above is A) Gerry has an alibi which will contradict what the Smiths say they saw and B) the Smiths must be mistaken because they identified Gerry from T.V. months later.
There is certainly nary a hint of any intention to use the sighting.

For very many people, the Smith sighting is one of the most damning suggestions that Madeleine was not abducted. It is a thorn in the side of their protestations of non involvement. Hence why the BBC had to lie in its program and wrongly claim that the Smiths had changed their minds.
