Good ol' Trace. Doing a sterling job at bringing the public's attention to the podcasts & Netflix documentary.

Kate McCann’s pal slams top cop for claiming her story doesn’t add up and that abductor couldn’t have got into Maddie’s room

Peter MacLeod, a retired Nottingham Police superintendent, said the McCanns' description to police of their Praia da Luz apartment window raised 'red flags'

A PAL of the McCann family has slammed new claims a kidnapper could not have entered and exited the apartment from where Maddie vanished.

Peter MacLeod, a retired superintendent with Nottingham Police, said the McCanns' claim she was snatched via the narrow apartment window raised "red flags".

He made the accusation in a new podcast detailing Maddie's 2007 disappearance by 9 News journalist Mark Saunokonoko.

Maddie, 3, disappeared on May 3, 2007, having vanished from an apartment in Portugal while her parents Gerry and Kate dined with friends at a tapas restaurant 120m away.

In September of that year, Gerry and Kate, both doctors, were sensationally named as suspects by Portuguese police.
Though they were later cleared and have always denied any involvement in her disappearance, many, including very vocal groups of online trolls, still to this day claim there was a cover-up.

Kate's friend told The Sun Online: "Spurious allegations discussing what might have and might not have happened that night have been made umpteen times.

"Anybody can do a podcast, it doesn’t mean it’s right, and one spouting off about what they did and subsequently said is something quite frankly they will ignore. What would he know?

"Kate and Gerry never said their daughter was smuggled out of the window, they think she was taken out of the door."

Former GP Kate, who celebrates her 51st birthday today, and heart doctor Gerry, 50, from Rothley, Leics, cling onto a glimmer of hope that Maddie could still be alive. She would now be aged 15, nearly 16.
Mr MacLeod cast doubt on the theory an abductor climbed through the apartment window in order to snatch Maddie.

He contrasted descriptions of the window as damaged and "jemmied" with claims made by the bungling Portuguese cops that there was no evidence of forced entry.

He told the podcast producers: "The window is only an absolutely maximum 50cm wide, in reality 46 wide, and it's already a metre off the ground.
"I had a look at that and my shoulders are wider than that little window. So although you could climb in sideways you certainly can't jump in if you are a normal sized person.

"I frankly do not think it's possible. It would be difficult enough to get yourself in. You'd have to grab hold of windows, grab hold of things.
"Then you've got to pick up a child without waking it up without waking the other two children. I do not think it can be done, or let me put it another way, I do not see how anyone could do it."

The new podcast - titled Maddie - is the product of two years investigative work and will draw on analysis from experts and multiple people involved in the case.

Its release comes just as it emerged Netflix has also produced a documentarywhich Gerry and Kate have refused to be involved with.

It emerged at the weekend they said they want "nothing to do with it" so they avoid jeopardising the ongoing Met Police's investigation into her disappearance.

Netflix had been hoping it would be ready to screen last year but the project reportedly took longer than expected.

It's also thought producers had wanted to create an eight-part series but it may now be a one or two-parter.

Despite that, Netflix are hoping it'll be massive hit like its other successful true crime dramas including Making A Murderer and Abducted in Plain Sight.

This is certainly a very good start for Mark Saunokonoko's podcasts.

Pity she didn't mention Peter's brilliant e-book.

But probably quite a few more people will be googling Peter MacLeod and Mark Saunokonoko, so who knows what might develop from that.

What is very interesting is what made the Sun and Tracey Kandohla publish this?

It's definitely free publicity for the cause

Good publicity it might be but this is very odd indeed - I'm not liking the vibes. Why did she pick out PeterMac for special attention?

It could of course just be a troll fest in preparation for renewed funding for Operation Grange or it could be something a whole lot worse.

Well done PM for getting your valued points and reasoning into the Mainstream Media via Kate McCann herself.  As if we didn't already know the Mccanns and friends and family have been viewing CMoMM for years and they have finally chosen PeterMac to 'make an example of yet another Internet troll'.
I asked on this Forum years ago why have they never challenged PeterMac's take on this case and they finally have!

All good publicity I say  winkwink

But surely there's not one person to better represent our cause than anyone else?

He was a professional police investigator for 30 years - and at Superintendent level.

His ebook is tightly and meticulously argued with references and links for every point he makes.

He has conducted original research of the highest order, with immense persistence, the Last Photo research possibly being his crowning and most telling achievement.

He carries no baggage with him. He hasn't made films about aliens. He hasn't made videos of himself accusing politicians of mass murder, nor door-stepped the McCanns. He hasn't broken any Court Orders.

How can he be attacked?

On the back of the Sun article, we have actually the perfect opportunity to draw the world's attention to his work and the work of this forum, where some of his finest work was carried out!

That makes it all the more strange that Tracey Kandohla named Peter - when they could have just mentioned Mark Saunokonoko and left it at that.

You could argue that it is better to let sleeping dogs lie...

I don't quite get your point Tony.  I'm not for a second finding fault with PeterMac if that's what you think.

Chances of Tracey Kandohla being a turncoat I find impossible to believe, her colours are still firmly nailed to the mast of good ship McCann.  OK, this press report could be seen as an inadvertent good marketing ploy for Mark Saunokonoko's podcast and PeterMac but it still doesn't answer my concern - why has PeterMac been singled out for particular mention.  Even a re-iteration of Peter's interview!

Why not Colin Sutton or any of the other interviewees?

I suspect an ulterior motive but who is behind it and why.

You may not think it matters, I however never trust the press.  As regards the McCann case there is always a reason behind every report and it's not in the interest of Madeleine McCann.

Kate McCann's account of Maddie's open bedroom window a possible 'red flag'

By Mark Saunokonoko
10:08am Mar 5, 2019

The way Madeleine McCann's mother described her daughter's bedroom window as wide open on the night the three-year-old vanished could be a "red flag", which would have drawn the attention of the investigating officers, a former British police officer has claimed.

Madeleine's bedroom window is a potentially important piece of evidence from inside the holiday apartment where the McCanns stayed in May 2007.

Since Madeleine's unusual disappearance, Mrs McCann has said that when she entered her children’s shared bedroom around 10pm on May 3, a small sliding window in the room was open, a set of exterior metal shutters was rolled all the way up and the curtain was blowing.

The open bedroom window appeared to suggest two potential scenarios; an unknown abductor broke into the bedroom through the window, took Maddie and left through a door; or he forced the window open, snatched the girl and clambered back out.

Peter MacLeod, a retired superintendent from the Nottinghamshire Police, has visited Praia da Luz, closely inspected Madeleine's ground floor bedroom window at the Ocean Club Resort and raised further queries about both theories.

In episode two of Nine.com.au's just-released true crime podcast Maddie, Mr MacLeod said he did not think it was possible for a man to carry a three-year-old child out the window. Maddie has reached number 1 on the Australian iTunes charts less than 24 hours after being released.

"My shoulders are wider than that little window. So although you could climb in sideways you certainly can't jump in if you are a normal sized person," Mr MacLeod said.

Mr MacLeod also expressed other concerns about the window, and its apparent significance in the early stages of the police investigation.

Kate and Gerry McCann have steadfastly denied they were involved in the disappearance of their daughter, and have never been charged by police. Nine.com.au does not suggest they had any involvement.

The couple from Rothley, Leicestershire believe an abductor entered the apartment after they left their children alone while they ate dinner with friends at a nearby restaurant.

In the second episode of Maddie, Mr MacLeod raised other issues about the bedroom window's roller shutters, which were widely reported as being "broken and jemmied" despite Portuguese Police saying there was no forensic evidence of forced entry.

"That [reporting of broken shutters] was the first red flag to me," Mr MacLeod said.

The McCann's have pursued a Portuguese detectives through the courts following a controversial book he wrote about the case, and accused him of focusing on them to the detriment of the investigation.

How gratifying to see "The Sun" refer to Peter Mac as a "top cop". Wow! Just occasionally they get something right. big grin I was also well pleased to see a verbatim report of his calm, sensible, measured reasoning about why the "abduction via window" is totally improbable. A hearty thank-you to Tracey and Kate's "pal" for helping to spread awareness of such "red flags" and indeed, Mark's podcast, among "Sun" readers.

It's refreshing that Tracey didn't refer to Peter as a 'vile cop' but a TOP COP!!!

Also astonishing is that she should publicise an obscure radio phone-in from a small local community radio station on the far side of the world, and promote it !

I think Mark's presentation style is much the same as Peter's.

They said X.
Then they said Not-X
Both cannot be true

As Lizzy has shown by posting the You tube upthread, they (CM) DID say the point of entry was the window
Then they (CM) said it wasn't, but WAS the point of Exit.
Now they are saying Exit was the door (which one)
So we have
X
Not-X, but Y
Not-Y, but Z

I am beginning to enjoy this !

Just to clear this up, @Verdi, no, I wasn't in the least doubting your complete confidence in Petermac.

I share your doubts about the mainstream press, and especially the Sun given its truly appalling record on the Madeleine McCann case.

I'm not sure why the Sun went with this story, it's a puzzle to me as it is to you.

Yes, there is a reason behind every report and probably the 'top' reason is to sell more papers. As we know, many papers openly admit that putting a photo of Madeleine on the front page sells more copies. Whichever way you look at this story, it is actually a very good story, isn't it?

A 'top cop', no less, a British former Superintendent, versus the McCanns and versus all those who have endorsed their abduction narrative!

I have personal experience of how the press can turn stories right around when it suits them.

I first started helping Stuart Lubbock's father on 6 January 2006, when Michael Barrymore was on Celebrity Big Brother. There was a lot of publicity about the case that month. It prompted the Sun on 30 January to run a 5-page spread declaring that Barrymore was innocent, and an editorial ran:

"Barrymore's story backed by medics and key witnesses. Now a Sun probe has unearthed 'lost' evidence that seems to back Barrymore's version of events".

Less than one year later, on 28 January 2007, and after we had successfully forced Essex Police to begin a full re-investigation of the death of Stuart Lubbock, the Sun published this editorial:

"Sun readers say they don't want the disgraced entertainer back on TV. Memories of that ghastly night of death and debauchery at his home are still too fresh. Once, Barrymore was a genuinely great talent. Today he is a pathetic and disgraced liability".

I worked with Phil Taylor, Associate Editor of the News of the World on  the serialisation in the paper of my book on the case. He explained to me how newspapers kept files on high-publicity cases which often contained material enabling them to completely 'change sides' when it suited them.

I wonder if Kate still goes to the gym with Tracey? big grin

She doesn't seem to be much of a friend to her, rather a...journalist who is out for a story!

Beware Kate, especially if you've told her what really happened to Madeleine!

Friend of Kate McCann slams retired police chief who said their claims Maddie was abducted through their apartment window raised a ‘red flag’

Retired superintendent Peter MacLeod has cast doubt on an abductor theory
He claimed it would have been difficult for an intruder to enter the apartment
However a family friend to the McCann's has called them 'spurious allegations'

A family friend to Kate McCann has slammed claims made by a top superintendent that the story around her disappearance raises 'red flags'.

In a podcast by 9 News, retired superintendent Peter MacLeod cast doubt on the logistics of an abductor theory and said it would have been 'difficult' for a kidnapper to have entered the Praia da Luz apartment as three-year-old Madeleine slept.

However a friend of the family refuted the 'spurious allegations' and the suggestion that Madeleine's parents, from Rothley, Leicestershire, had anything to do with her kidnapping.

The former police chief's comments came during any interview with Australian journalist Mark Saunokonoko.

During the podcast, titled Maddie, the retired police chief said: 'The window is only an absolutely maximum 50cm wide, in reality 46 wide, and it's already a metre off the ground.

'I had a look at that and my shoulders are wider than that little window. So although you could climb in sideways you certainly can't jump in if you are a normal sized person.

'I frankly do not think it's possible. It would be difficult enough to get yourself in. You'd have to grab hold of windows, grab hold of things.

'Then you've got to pick up a child without waking it up without waking the other two children. I do not think it can be done, or let me put it another way, I do not see how anyone could do it.

The police officer's claims will form part of a podcast that draws from experts in the field and those who were directly involved in the case in 2007.

However a friend to the McCann family told the Sun Online: 'Spurious allegations discussing what might have and might not have happened that night have been made umpteen times.

'Anybody can do a podcast, it doesn’t mean it’s right, and one spouting off about what they did and subsequently said is something quite frankly they will ignore. What would he know?'

Following their daughter's disappearance in May of 2007, parents Kate and Gerry McCann, who had been dining in a nearby tapas restaurant as their children slept at their apartment, were questioned by the Portuguese authorities.

However they were soon found to be innocent and have since continued their long battle in trying to find their missing daughter, vowing to never give up hope in finding her.

The new podcast comes as Scotland Yard ask the Home Office for another year of funding in the search for Madeleine McCann.

More than £11million has so far been spent on trying to find Madeleine in Operation Grange.

In a statement last year the Home Office had said: 'We have received and are considering a request from the Metropolitan Police Service to extend funding for Operation Grange until the end of March 2019.

'The Home Office maintains an ongoing dialogue with the MPS regarding.'

The point is, they didn't stay up. As soon as you let go they came crashing back down.

Interesting how keeping our eye on the very first squirrel always causes such consternation.

Peter MacLeod has also written about the case

A former superintendent at Nottinghamshire Police has told a new podcast about the disappearance of Madeleine McCann that it was "not possible" for an abductor to have carried her out of the window at the apartment where she was sleeping.
Three-year-old Madeleine went missing on the evening of May 3, 2007, from an apartment at the Ocean Club complex in Praia da Luz where she was sleeping with her twin siblings.
Now a new podcast about the case has cast doubt about whether an abductor could have carried her out of the apartment window, which Maddie's mother Kate said was open when she found her daughter missing at around 10pm. She and husband Gerry said they believed someone had 'jemmied open' the shutters to get into the bedroom.
The podcast by Australian journalist Mark Saunokonoko, simply called 'Maddie', features contributions from former Nottinghamshire officer Peter MacLeod.

In the second episode of the podcast, released on Sunday March 4, Mr MacLeod says: "The window is only an absolute maximum 50cm wide, in reality about 46 wide, and it's already a metre off the ground.
"I had a [inaudible] at that and my shoulders are wider than that little window. So although you could climb in sideways you certainly can't jump in if you are a normal-sized person."
Asked whether he believes someone carrying a child could get through the window, he replies: "I frankly do not think it's possible.
"It would be difficult enough to get yourself in. You'd have to grab hold of windows, and grab hold of things."

He adds: "But of course the shutters are the problem, because the shutters are going to be bashing down on your head. Either that or you've got to put a piece of wood in or something. And there's no suggestion of any of that.
"And then you've got to pick up a child without waking it up, without waking the other two children. I do not think it can be done. Or let me put it another way, I do not see how anyone could do it."
He then goes on to say it was obvious from local television footage that the window shutters were not damaged, smashed, forced or jemmied. This was in contrast to the stories in the British media that both the window and the shutters were damaged.
"That was the first red flag, to me," he adds.

Peter MacLeod served with Nottinghamshire Police for 28 years. He reached the permanent rank of chief inspector, but then became temporary superintendent at West Bridgford police station, with operational responsibility for West Bridgford, Clifton, Bingham, Carlton, St Ann’s and Sneinton.
He retired in 2000, and the following year he left his West Bridgford home to move to the village of Ronda in southern Spain with his partner Claire Casson, where the couple spent two years transforming an old farmhouse into a five-bed B&B.
He has visited Praia da Luz and written an e-book about the case called 'What Really Happened to Madeleine McCann?' ( thumbsup )  which looks a number of key aspects of the case, including the sightings of a man carrying a child, the photos taken at the time, and whether Madeleine and her siblings were sedated.

Madeleine would now be 15, turning 16 in May this year. In November last year Operation Grange, the Met Police investigation into her disappearance, was given a further £150,000 from the Home Office, providing funding up to March 31 this year.
Nottinghamshire Live has contacted the official Find Madeleine website for a comment.
Aside from a short message at Christmas, the last update on the site from Maddie's parents Kate and Gerry, who were dining in a nearby tapas restaurant when their daughter went missing, was on the 11th anniversary of her disappearance last year.

They wrote: "It gets harder to know what to say or write as each anniversary of Madeleine’s abduction approaches then passes. Life is full and busy which helps but Madeleine is still missing and she is still dearly missed. Information continues to come in (incredible as it may seem after so long, although we are grateful for that) and work goes on. Perseverance and hope remain.

"Thank you to everyone who continues to support us and wish us, especially Madeleine, well. After eleven years such warmth and persisting solidarity is truly remarkable, and at the same time a real tonic and boost to our spirit.

"We couldn’t bear for Madeleine to be forgotten or to become just a ‘story’. She is a real person and still our ‘little girl’ and as we always have, we will endeavour to do whatever it takes to find her. Thank you so much for staying with us on this mission."
So far three episodes of the podcast have been released. A Netflix documentary about the case is set to be broadcast later this month.
