Scotland Yard ask for extra cash to keep hunt for Madeleine McCann going for one more year
Scotland Yard has requested that the Home Office provide another year of funding in the hunt for Madeleine McCann, Sky News has reported.
The Metropolitan Police have asked for the extra money as funding for the young girl's search begins to run out.
In December the Metropolitan Police commissioner Cressida Dick had reportedly backed the long-running Operation Grange, which has so far cost some £11.75million, and defended the ongoing search for the British girl.
A month earlier, the probe into the missing girl's disappearance had also been granted £150,000 more funding by the Home Office

Scotland Yard has asked that the Home Office provide another year of funding in the hunt for Madeleine McCann, according to Sky News.
The Home Office received the official request from detectives investigating the disappearance of the missing girl today as funding for Operation Grange begins to run out.
More than £11million has far been spent on trying to find Madeleine who went missing in Portugal on May 3, 2007.
It is hoped the extra funding, which will see investigations continue until March 2020, will bring new hope in finding Madeleine.
In December, the Metropolitan Police commissioner Cressida Dick had reportedly backed the long-running Operation Grange, which has so far cost some £11.75million, and defended the ongoing search for the British girl.
A month earlier, the probe into the missing girl's disappearance had also been granted £150,000 more funding by the Home Office.
In a blog last year the Home Office had said: 'We have received and are considering a request from the Metropolitan Police Service to extend funding for Operation Grange until the end of March 2019.
'The Home Office maintains an ongoing dialogue with the MPS regarding.'
So far more than £11million has been spent on the search for Madeleine, who disappeared more in 2007 as she slept in a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal.
Following a request by Home Secretary at the time Theresa May, the investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine was launched in May 2011 and some 600 'persons of interest' were examined.
During the investigations officers also translated 40,000 documents produced by Portuguese police.
However in 2015 the British investigations into the disappearance of Madeleine were scaled down from a team of 29 officers to just four.
At the time Scotland Yard had insisted that they would be continuing the search but with a 'smaller team

This is a good way of suppressing dissent.
Many people will still think that the government and the police are entirely honest, and to be trusted, and will assume that the police really really do still have a realistic prospect of 'solving' the case.
Madeleine was born on 13 March 2003.
By the time this further extension runs out, it will be 31 March 2020 - and by then Madeleine, if still alive, would be nearing her 17th birthday - old enough to have got married and to start driving a car. The twins will have reached their 15th birthday.
DCS Hamish Campbell - the man widely thought to have 'fixed' the killing of Jill Dando - fixed the remit of Operation Grange as to investigate, quote, 'the abduction'. Other options such as parental involvement, or wandering off, were never considered. The only remit was to i8nvestigate the abduction.
Where has the independent oversight of this case been? The Greater London Authority runs the Metropolitan Police. Where has their Police Committee been on this, ever since Operation Grange was set up nearly eight years ago? When have they ever summoned DCI Redwood or DCI Nicola Wall to explain their actions? Never.
Requests for extensions, as we now know from the answers to one of my FOI Act questions, don't even need a written request, not even one paragraph. It is all just done with a 'phone call.
There will be some mutterings about this on Twitter and Facebook. One or two journalists like Katie Hopkins might mutter aloud about this seemingly endless investigation.
Publishers, editors and journalists the world over are too nervous to use any of the excellent information that has been uncovered about what really happened that week, and when.
Pat Brown and Petermac may publish excellent ebooks, people like Lizzy Hideho, Richard Hall and others make excellent documentaries and films, Mark Saunokonoko is going ahead with some podcasts.
And then there is all the research on CMOMM.
But none of this reaches the mainstream media - anywhere in the world.
As I think was said by some Portuguese or British commentators right at the start, there must be something so deeply awful about what really happened to Madeleine McCann, which could implicate many people in high positions, that the British government has pulled out every possible stop to make sure the truth never gets out.
And that says something very very sinister about those who govern us.

They were photographed and the photo handed to a press agency, who released it on 8 May, as the search for Madeleine continued. The McCanns held up these same pyjamas at two press conferences on 5 & 7June 2007. How could Madeleine have been abducted?"

One could be forgiven for thinking OG are trying to wear us all down and make us go away. Six months is one thing...but a whole year before we get anymore news? Clearly they don't expect to find Madeleine for at least another year.
There was also nothing in the article about the usual 'bouyancy' of the McCann couple.

The wisdom of the Oracle - it was inevitable!
Have they new leads to follow I ask myself - a last ditch attempt to solve the case?
Brit cops follow new lead in the hunt for the toddler Maddie
Scotland Yard has issued this e-fit of a person of interest in their latest line of inquiries, they will not be commenting on progress of the investigation but a source close to Operation Grange has said this is a good quality marketing strategy.
If you see this person or think you know who it is, please contact the Find Madeleine Fund in a plain brown envelope marked for the attention of 'who it may concern'. It'll get there!

This is a really big kick of the can into the long grass by the met. Another 12 months funding into 2020.
Grange was scoped to investigate the alleged abduction, as if it took place in the UK. Yes, lets really think about the implications of that first. Then think about the outputs from that investigation one would expect:
*some form of results to date from Grange eg interim or final reports
*Confirmed interviews under PACE (eg under caution) by the Met of their many suspects
* A Prosecution file raised for the CPS - but then of course; the main crime scene did not happen in the UK;
There is No recognition of the following crimes:
#The admitted neglect of sleeping small children by the UK citizen parents, albeit in Portugal.
#A conspiracy to pervert the course of Justice both in the UK and in Portugal. Setting up a limited UK company under the auspices of searching for a lost child, when knowing full well she is long gone and obtaining donated funds by deception; again by the parents
#the occultation of a UK citizen (Maddy) in a foreign land eg we have no death certificate.
We as taxpayers could further reflect that Grange in fact is now verging on the fraudulent.
It has not needed to be held accountable for the 12m spend of public money with no results; on an investigation that was started in May 2011 (effectively 8 years duration) and now 11 years since Madeliene's abduction was alleged by her parents in May 2007, but without any substantiating evidence of an abduction, but plenty to indicate a death.
Of course, an open 'criminal' investigation is an excellent cover to nullify any public questions to the above, as it may be prejudicial. This is shameful. Where is the Parliamentary enquiry?

Our good friend Martin Brunt, when the story first broke, made a very big deal of the fact that the money was to pursue a “highly sensitive” lead. He stressed it repeatedly. I found that interesting.

I totally agree, Jill. Not only this MM case, but the whole political set-up. We are being ground down by the whole establishment. As for me, I am well and truly grinded to the point of exhaustion. What ARE they hiding? As the late John Stalker once said "they are hiding a big secret". Tommy Robinson has had all his sites pulled by the Leviathan. Robinson said, when asked why John Sweeney is still in a job, after Robinson exposed Sweeney's lies, Robinson said, because Sweeney has too much dirt on the BBC, or words to that effect.
When one puts the McCann saga of continuous taxpayers money to "find a missing child" (don't make me laugh!) and MPs going against everything they campaigned on, and the will of the people they are there to represent, I think we are on the edge of a huge cliff and we are about to fall off.
What IS the glue that holds this all this festering filth together?
Rant over!

What got me...
as I lay half asleep in bed this morning, was not the continued funding, or even its increase for a whole year, but the sepulchral voice-over saying that there is 'JUST the ONE line of inquiry left to follow up, but that it is VERY DELICATE! WTF are we supposed to unde stand by delicate! An almost four year old child goes missing and they have to tread DELICATELY about finding out who was responsible! Anyone tell me what the Met WANT us to think?

I'm pro giving them more money as we know where all roads lead.
With the Netflix series coming out, let's hope they have put as much time into it as the Stephen Avery case. We might get some serious movement then. That the Mccann's have all decided to distance themselves from the series says a lot.

True, Verdi... but its the word 'delicate' I don't get. Whatever scenario I try out in my head I can't see to what, or to whom delicate might be referring... a priest? a hitherto trusted close friend or family member?

I'm not 'clutching' the word delicate, aquila. I selected it out deliberately because I find it bizarre, and totally inappropriate and amongst all the Horlicks the Met have come up with, perhaps the oddest supposed justification for the unwarranted extension and the extra cash.

Hi aquila, not sure if it answers your use of "delicate" aka Tapas 7/9, to handle with kid gloves, care not to upset them, as they were in a state of flux, like Operation Grange, former Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner Mark Rowley?aquila wrote:comperedna wrote:True, Verdi... but its the word 'delicate' I don't get. I long ago went along with Amaral. I knew the case was a stinker way back when the Mirror forum was about the only place where it was discussed. It is the increasingly nutty justificationary verbiage from the yard that I was thinking about.

One has to wonder what the "endgame" to this whole saga will be. I tend to think they'll bring in a young actress to play the part of a recovered Madeliene, with nauseating smiles from the parents and various other 'players' plastered all over the mainstream media. They would of course be portrayed as heroes in such a scenario.Tony Bennett wrote:This is a good way of suppressing dissent.

Agree with Tony about Grange being a tool to suppress dissent, however I believe Madeleine was born on May 12th 2003 not 13th March. I presume it's a typo but just to set things straight

On whose demands was this operation set up?
Who blackmailed David Cameron and Theresa May?
Who must know something about Cameron and May or the government to be able to blackmail them?
Who was once accused of paying Met police officers for information?
Who knows too much about things that have gone on at the Met?
Who is profiting from the crazy stories in fake news papers like the Sun?
Which Leveson suspect rightly said "Were all in this together"

Got this e-mail today from the 38 degrees
Dear Sharon,
Our police don’t have the funding they need.
[1] They say it’s making it harder for them to keep our streets and communities safe.
[2] Today, there’s a huge row right at the top of government about whether the police service should get more funding.
[3] But what's missing behind those closed doors is our voices. If the public pile in right now, it could tip the balance in favour of more money for the police.
Will you sign the petition and demand more funding for the police right now? It takes less than 30 seconds:
We all have different experiences with the police - some good, some bad. Funding won’t solve the problems in the police service overnight. From unfair use of ‘stop and search’ to a history of racism, the problems in our police aren’t simple, and they need sorting out.
[4] And there’s a whole load of complex reasons that lead to crime in this country, including underfunding of schools, cuts to mental health services and essential community services like youth clubs.
[5] The government’s responsible for all of this. But none of it’s solved by starving the police of money. A properly funded police could mean fewer overworked officers. More cash to spend creates a police service with the resources to get to know people in their local area and tackle crime for the long term.
[6]The public's voice is missing. Will you sign the petition right now and call for more police funding?

If we the tax paying public are being asked to spend even more money on this so called investigation shouldn't we be demanding that they investigate properly and question the parents and others who were there at the time?

Re: Scotland Yard ask for extra cash to keep hunt for Madeleine McCann going for one more year
That's what CMOMM has been doing for the past nine years when Tony first wrote to Prime Minister David Cameron in 2010. All our letters to the various Prime Ministers, Home Secretaries, Leader of the Opposition, and Met Police are filed in this section right up to the most recent letter to the Portuguese Attorney-General (written in English and Portuguese, courtesy of Portuguese journalist and friend of Dr Gonçalo Amaral, Paulo Reis) in 2018:suespeaking wrote:If we the tax paying public are being asked to spend even more money on this so called investigation shouldn't we be demanding that they investigate properly and question the parents and others who were there at the time?

And here you can see all our petitions and FOI requests, also dating back to 2010:
Petitions calling for full Public and Judicial Enquiries
FOI Requests into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann
Dr Gonçalo Amaral on the shelving of the Portuguese investigation: "Too much politics, that's what there was, too much politics and not enough policing."
And it's been political ever since.
eta: Our new letter to Home Secretary, dated March 2019: CMOMM's 2019 letter to Home Secretary Sajid Javid re: Extended Funding for Operation Grange
I think it's safe to say that, out of everybody on the internet (Facebook groups, twitter, blogs, other fora), CMOMM has been the most pro-active in trying to get justice for Madeleine McCann by means of a proper investigation with an unrestricted remit, and that we continue to beaver away behind the scenes.

Perhaps if the police were allowed to get on with the job without complying to a strict regime of political correctness and codes of conduct, the UK would be a safer place to live.
Heaven forbid you should call a spade a spade !
