Re: Gemma O'Doherty investigative journalist will soon publish details of her investigation into the Madeleine McCann case
I agree and think Gemma would only undertake if she felt she could do a thorough job...this case did become political too. The mothers brother was /is the main suspect...is Gerry a common name in Ireland?Phoebe wrote:The main suspect in the Mary Boyle case is a member of her mother's family. The police investigating at the time were (by their own admission) told to ease off during questioning him just as they felt he was on the point of confessing. This allegedly occurred after an intervention by a politician who knew him well. There is no suggestion of a paedophile ring cover-up, rather it was a powerful man doing a favour for a political crony. Because politics stymied the original investigation, now all political parties and the Gardai do not want what happened revisited. The mother does not seem want to investigate the possibility that a member of her own family is responsible, even though the dead girl's identical twin has publicly stated her belief that this is what happened. I would expect Gemma O'Doherty to do a thorough job of any program she undertakes. Perhaps she will get to speak to the Smith family. Given that they are Irish, I would be astonished if she didn't contact them to see what they might have to say. They may or may not engage with her but I feel their response either way could be of interest.

@ MayMuse. Gerry was a very common name here, short for both Gerald (as in McCann) and Gerard. The latter version is very popular as St Gerard Majella is the patron saint of expectant mothers. Many women, especially those with difficult pregnancies, ended up calling their sons "Gerard" and their daughters "Majella"! There are also several you tube videos, (posted before the O'Doherty program) by The "Sunday World Investigates" team. They contain even more information and allegations, including the discovery nearby of a new, shallow grave, which the police failed to investigate, despite being told about it.

@Phoebe Thank you, I went searching and found this interview with Gemma... Very interesting information on many levels she is no SP that's for sure a positive so hold out hope for her new documentary on Madeleine.@ MayMuse. Re: Gemma O'Doherty investigative journalist will soon publish details of her investigation into the Madeleine McCann case
I listened to the interview with Gemma O'Doherty posted by MayMuse (thanks) and was surprised to hear her speak of a paedophile ring in connection with the Mary Boyle case. That does not tally with local opinion which holds that the abuse they believe Mary suffered (which lead to her murder) was strictly familial. Mary lived quite far away from this alleged abuser and would only have seen him a couple of times each year. Her immediate family was only there that weekend as they were staying with her grandparents because of a family anniversary. Local opinion believes this was an example of opportunistic abuse and that the political interference came into play because the chief suspect was a political ally of the alleged, interfering politician. As she rightly points out, corruption through political interference was, and is, endemic and would occur regardless of the nature of the wrongdoing. Unfortunately, this type of abuse was all too common and was usually hushed up by other family members if discovered for fear of the shame that would follow exposure. I hope she gives more details about this alleged "ring".

Re: Gemma O'Doherty investigative journalist will soon publish details of her investigation into the Madeleine McCann case
Ms O'Doherty appears to be clued up on home affairs.
One of her recent tweets, she mentions the Donegal connection - now that could prove very interesting. So much of this case leads back to Ireland in one way or another, an aspect that's always intrigued me.
Perahps she can throw some light on Gamble and Edgar and Smith !?!
Better still Cardinal Cormack Murphy O'Connor who, with the help of Clarence Mitchell, arranged for the McCanns visit to the Vatican. The Cardinal heavily involved in the scandalous cover-up of child sex abuse in the church.

Gemma O'Doherty @gemmaod1
Tony Blair went out of his way to help the McCanns. Why them, when 380 children go missing in the UK every day? Like Gerry, Blair had strong Donegal links and spent summer holidays in Ballyshannon, his mother’s hometown. McCann’s parents were also from Donegal #MadeleineMcCann

HumBum might be just asking. But if you load questions with phrases like 'self serving journos' before you've researched their background. Your bound to be blocked.
We saw an example of this in one of Richard Hall's videos analysing that Buzz Aldrin interview. Go about it the wrong way, you've had it.

Keyboard warriors tend to lack the basic education associated with language skills (and probably conversational skills).
Poor punctuation, poor grammar (my particular bugbear is “should of” rather than “should have” or should’ve” and similar such aberrations).
I despair for future generations

Re: Gemma O'Doherty investigative journalist will soon publish details of her investigation into the Madeleine McCann case
https://youtu.be/gBCTn72vi6w This is a link to a short piece which predates G O'Ds Mary Boyle documentary. There was another video which seems to have disappeared in which the two men (one is in the above clip) who found what they felt was a freshly dug shallow grave were interviewed. In that video one of the men described lifting some of the grass sods and seeing what he believed was brown hair. They reported this to the police at once but apparently no immediate search was instigated. I hope the link works as I'm a techo luddite.

Re: Gemma O'Doherty investigative journalist will soon publish details of her investigation into the Madeleine McCann case
For some confounded reason I cannot get the correct link to copy!! If anyone is interested type "The hunt for Mary Boyle Sunday World" into youtube and it's the video which shows a red stick stuck into the grass. One of the men in this clip describes what they did after finding the grave but the main part of the clip is taken up with a search organized by the newspaper. As I mentioned, the longer piece featuring a more extensive interview with the men describing what they found now seems unavailable.

Sorry Verdi, neither of those play for me. The link which I put up in the first of those two posts does play and although it is one of the Sunday World features re. Mary Boyle when I tried add the other one I really wanted, it keeps just posting the one already used (If that makes sense).

Gemma O'Doherty @gemmaod1
My investigation on the#McCann case will be published later this month in @VillageMagIRE. Until then, I will publish information which I consider to be of general public interest about the case here

So it's not to be a documentary but a written narrative of her investigation. All the talk about the Mary Boyle documentary, think I'm getting confused. Whatever, it's due to be published in a forthcoming edition of the Village Mag!
Village is a left-wing Irish current affairs and cultural magazine. It was launched in October 2004 and was originally published weekly. It was founded, and edited for a number of years by Vincent Browne. In November 2008, it was relaunched under new editor Michael Smith, a former investor in the magazine. The magazine currently prints ten issues per year and maintains an online presence.
Unusually for an Irish media outlet, Village is avowedly left-wing, with a stated aim to challenge "the endemically complacent and others by the acute promotion of equality, sustainability and accountability."
As such, the magazine has a leftist editorial filter.
Journalists who have contributed to the magazine include Sara Burke, Frank Connolly, John Waters, Justine McCarthy, Naomi Wolfe, Conor Brady, and Harry Browne. Other contributors have included Niall Crowley, Constantin Gurdgiev, Germaine Greer, Enda Kenny, Conor Lenihan, John Gormley, and Eoghan Carroll.

It remains to seen if the Village Mag publish the entire article online, if not I hope Ms O'Doherty can find some other means of getting the full story out there.
