Martin Brunt was on TV a few minutes ago, saying that the British and Portugal police have gathered information, and there is a "suspect" but he can't say too much at the moment. He also said, that that is why they are asking for more money to continue the investigation

If I gather some information and say there is a 'suspect' can I have some more money please? I need a new 'wagon' 'cos after 10 years my old one is going rusty and the wheels are falling off.

Pursuing a new line of enquiry!.  So another roll of the dice.  How many more rolls and how many more "suspects" will there be..  All this time, all this money and they are still pursuing new lines of enquiry.   Maybe if they had started at the beginning the last roll of the dice really would have happened years ago?

So, if it is not sex predators, child traffickers, burglary gone wrong, what CAN the latest theory be?  The plot thickens..............if it can get any thicker!

 Scotland Yard want to PROLONG the investigation...  

Obviously Six years is not pro long enough to keep giving the McCanns a "boost"....the farcical force must go on?

Lines of enquiry from critical to technical....a glitch, a hitch, a ditch or a snitch at 11 plus million? 

I'm happy for more money to be given to them. They will get there eventually. Tax is like an insurance policy, we may not need our share spent on policing ever - but the Mccann case needs putting to bed.

We know where this leads.

I want OG to say that the McCanns have been cleared and give the reasons why before spending money on anything else.

I want to see evidence of bog-standard policing.

I think we have the right as WE are paying for this farce.

So the McCanns will be relieved to hear that Operation Grange will be strung out a little longer.

What a joke that they continue to claim to be still investigating this "one last lead"

This must be the last time more money is given to this lost cause.

Social media is once more in meltdown over news that the Metropolitan Police search for closure in the Madeleine McCann case is likely to get even more taxpayers’ money, despite having spent over £11 million in the last six years.

Outrage over the continued funding has been a constant since Scotland Yard’s Operation Grange started running up its huge bill.

But according to mainstream reports while this can no longer be termed the ‘final throw of the dice’ - as that was reported nine months ago ([You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]) - “hopes are growing” that police are ‘finally closing in on Madeleine’s kidnapper’, over 10 years since the little girl went missing during a family holiday in Praia da Luz.

Breaking the news - and refraining from allowing readers’ comments this time ([You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]) - the Sun reports that: “Police searching for Madeleine McCann have requested more funding to keep the investigation alive”, and that the missing child’s parents “are hoping, naturally” that it will be granted.

The family’s spokesman Clarence Mitchell adds that Kate and Gerry McCann are “extremely grateful” for the new bid for cash.

If not forthcoming, Grange “could shut down in as little as three weeks time”, the Sun explains.

No reference is made in the text to the Sun’s own report (in March) describing television viewer ‘meltdown’ over the last £85,000 tranche of funding.

A debate on ‘Good Morning Britain’ saw “ex-top cop” Sue Hill say it was time “to put sentiment aside” and say ‘enough is enough’ “knowing how many undetected murders there are in London…”

Said the Sun: “Viewers were left furious as it emerged the investigation has cost more than £11 million so far”.

Since then, voices have continued to decry the focus on simply one missing child.

Only last week, the mother of a teen missing for 20 years slammed the way her agony has been given short shrift whereas the search for Madeleine continues to receive massive publicity.

And dissenting views from the ranks of former police are also apparent.

Former ‘top cop’ Colin Sutton - already renowned for claiming Grange has its hands tied with regard to what police can investigate - has told the Resident that from what he has “been able to establish” the probe is “neither a review or a re-investigation but a thematic, restricted investigation into one (the abduction) hypothesis.

“If that is still its aim - and I have no reason to suspect it is not - then I do not think it should be funded further”, he added.

This is the gist of commentaries that have followed reports of the Met’s latest request.

Twitter is awash with indignation, while all the blogs and fora are abuzz.

The consensus nonetheless remains that if Grange was to see its remit widened - “to examine any and all hypotheses” - pretty much all the fury would dissipate.

Campaigning group The Complete Mystery of Madeleine McCann has written as much to prime minister Theresa May ([You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]), and Colin Sutton also told us he would support an unfettered probe - adding that he thinks the chances of one being sanctioned are “pretty unlikely”.

As to the progress being made by Grange, the news remains customarily vague. It is “one final line of enquiry”, says the Sun, while the Telegraph adds that the Home Office has confirmed that the Met’s application will be considered.

Hypothetical Q. If there is a genuine suspect. Why the extra funding it would fall under normal policing wouldn't it. Like other cold cases sitting on police files. If somebody has new info, it's looked into.

They have a drawer full of these "suspects. Every time the money runs out they pull out a new one.

Not " sex predators " not " child trafficking " , not " bungling burglars " 

So not an " abduction " then? " 

New line of enquiry - Couple who wanted a child to love ? Err what happened with the woman in purple ? 

British public are sick and tired of the games being played , we are not as stupid as you like to think . How about a breakdown of what our , yes OUR money has been spent on ?

This is NOT about getting an answer for the McCanns , this is about getting Truth and Justice for Madeleine She is the victim , she deserves it .

Go back to the beginning , call in the parents and their Tapas friends , question them honestly and directly . You are paid to be detectives , do your job because at the moment the Met Operation Grange is a laughing stock !

Operation Grange was set up to pin the tail on the donkey. Its dilemma is finding a suitable ass. The McCanns' claims prevent a Ben Needham style resolution with their insistence on the crime scene indicating that Madeleine couldn't possibly have wandered outside, met with an accident and been hidden by, say, a panicked hit and run driver. Thanks to the open windows and shutters, the closed doors, gates and curtains, someone must have taken Madeleine from her room and without leaving any trace evidence. The parents were designated "untouchable" but years and millions later Grange cannot find a suitable patsy. Finding "evidence" of something the Portuguese allegedly missed is a non-runner - the Portuguese won't play that game. In the absence of re-investigating the Tapas 9's potential involvement, Grange has reached an expensive stalemate. How does S.Y. extricate itself from this quagmire? The McCanns will never be charged now. That opportunity, if it ever existed, is long gone and a volte face in that direction at this stage would be unthinkably humiliating for all politicians and their chums who backed the McCanns over the years. The only solution seems to be to delay the inevitable by throwing a few more quid to stave off the day of reckoning in the hope that, eventually, so much time will have passed and so much money been wasted that the lesser evil will be to declare case unsolved and put it with the other cold cases.

Greece seems to hold the "secret" to the disappearance in May 2007 of three-year-old Madeleine McCann, who has been in the last decade the subject of world public interest!

According to documents and testimonies in the last few days, the British police have been working with Hellenic (The National Police Service of Greece) on information from a 46-year-old German resident of Greece who had been arrested and identified as an important and trustworthy witness to Little Toddler's disappearance. It seems that Scotland Yard met the man in Athens a few days ago, seeking crucial information about the fate of the girl.

Operation Grange

Madeleine disappeared on May 3, 2007, at the age of three, in the small town of Praia da Luz in the Algarve region of Portugal. She was on vacation with her parents, Kate and Gary McCann, her two-year-old twin siblings and a family of family friends with their children. The three-year-old and her siblings went to bed at 8.30 pm on the ground floor of their apartment, in the resort where they were staying, while their parents and their friends dined in a restaurant about 50 meters away. The parents checked their children all night until Madeline's mother discovered, around 10pm that the girl had disappeared. From an incomplete DNA analysis, the Portuguese police reached an initial conclusion that Madeleine had died as a result of an accident in the apartment and that her parents had attempted to "cover up the incident." In September 2007 her parents were officially made "suspects". However, the Portuguese Public Prosecutor's Office filed the case in July 2008 because of a lack of evidence.

Initially, there was an investigation of the girl's parents suspected of her death. In 2011, Scotland Yard's "Operation Grange" was launched with the participation of 30 detectives to gather evidence of Little Madeleine's fate. And so began to develop various scenarios for what had happened that fateful night. Based on the testimony of a family friend, the investigation focused on a suspect who had appeared near the hotel room that night holding a little girl. However, in October 2013 he proved to be a British tourist who had nothing to do with the case who was carrying his own daughter.

The main suspect

Enquiries also turned to a 34-year-old Briton of Portuguese origin who was a real estate consultant and had been seen near the point of the girl's disappearance and had shown "too much zeal" to locate her. Still, suspicions had arisen at the expense of one of Madeleine's friends who had offered to go to check if the McCann family was asleep in their apartment. Without being told to do thorough scrutiny, he had seen the door open. In addition, testimonies of Irish holidaymakers reported an unknown man with brown hair and beige pants who was seen rushing nearby holding a girl who fitted Madeleine's description. Also, there were cases of burglaries and robberies that had occurred in the region, as well as the role of an African worker in the restaurant, who was killed in a tractor accident in 2009. However, there was no real effect and most scenarios were rejected. A total of 8,500 reports have been gathered over Madeleine's destiny during the past 10 years as part of the "Operation Grange", and research has been a problem because of their tight funding. However, at the end of last spring there were statements by investigators that "new important facts have been found".

While the Greek dimension of the mystery appeared a few weeks ago. On July 18, 2017, the Directorate for International Police Co-operation at Katehaki Avenue drafted a document referring to the "liaison" with the Metropolitan Police of Great Britain in London. As noted, "In May 2017, a 46-year-old German, living in Athens, contacted the Operation Grange group to help with these enquiries . " According to the same document, the 46-year-old was imprisoned for transportation of illegal immigrants and was present at police services, but he has not been identified ...

Reliable witness?

As illustrated in the International Police Co-operation Directorate's letter based on Scotland Yard's information, " so far, the information he has given voluntarily and without any monetary or other consideration to the Metropolitan Police about the case has been cross-checked and is considered a credible source" !
 
A further investigation by the Police Co-operation Directorate found that the 46-year-old German who had a residence in France had been arrested in Igoumenitsa in 2011 when he tried to drive three illegal immigrants from Africa with his car. Instead, a file was formed and he was then released . According to other sources, the man had been arrested in 2015 in Thessaloniki when he returned to Greece for a vacation. He was brought to the court where he was sentenced to seven years and five months in prison. He had denied all charges and claimed that "he facilitated the three foreigners who had made him home". He was detained in the prison of Chania from where he contacted the members of the "Operation Grange".

He was released a few weeks ago and allegedly used a cell phone owned by a Balkan countryman that lived in Agios Panteleimonas. In addition, he was banned from leaving the country in view of the second-degree trial scheduled for next month.

Testimony to "The Tribune"

"The Tribune" identified the 46-year-old foreigner and critical witness of the three-year-old Madeleine case in a region of Fthiotida. As he noted, "I met a couple of days ago at a Scottish Yard officer that came to Athens. I give important information about the case. On the days that Madeline disappeared, I was also - in a neighboring area - in the particular province of Portugal. I had then contacted the local police, but the investigation had been abandoned. Now there is a keen interest from Scotland Yard for what I know. You understand that something serious is coming to come here to meet me. But I have an explicit prohibition to say anything to anyone else. My cooperation with the English police will continue in the coming days "
