Madeleine's parents are centre stage.

The iconic Madeleine.

Here's a run-down of the others and at what age they went missing.

1 aged 15.
1 aged 48
1 aged 22
1 aged 26
1 aged 18
1 aged 22
1 aged 16 (missing since 1959)
1 aged 27
1 aged 23
1 aged 30
1 whose age has not been disclosed but was last seen drawing money from a cashpoint in Italy - so not a child.

The one who is aged 18, Quentin Godwin went missing in Auckland, New Zealand. His mother is a high-up in Missing People.

The only young child that went missing is Madeleine McCann. There is no Ben Needham or the young British child Katrice Lee that went missing in a supermarket in Germany - although the mother and sister of this child were hawked onto a tv sofa to sit next to the McCanns.

The charity Missing People exploit Madeleine for money. The charity called Missing People have no remit to help anyone missing overseas. If you read their website they will tell you that and yet they pluck the McCanns at every available opportunity to front their media campaigns.

Don't get me wrong here. It's awful for anyone to go missing from their family - from both perspectives - some people go missing because it's the best thing to do for them. What I find objectionable is that Madeleine is brought out to front up Missing People each time it comes to raising funds. Madeleine is the icon and yet it's Missing Kids that holds the website for....missing kids....not adults. Actually it's not Madeleine brought out, it's her parents. Madeleine is secondary.

The Missing Kids website references were removed from findmadeleine.com.

Just an observation.

ETA: Madeleine McCann is the UK equivalent of the 'flies on eyes African children' media campaign to raise funds. If only Missing People with all their millions could actually tell people what they do. I've read their entire website and still can't make it out. If they have helplines manned by volunteers to point people in the right direction and pay for professionals to assist then it's not too much to expect such information to be published on their website imo.

It all seems just like another 'raising awareness' type thing for raising awareness sake.  Now don't get me wrong some 'raising awarness' charities are quite valid eg knowing a little CPR or for  people who have a sudden stroke.  Yet some are, how do you put it? Raising awareness about something most of us can do very little about.  I'd love to wave a magic wand and make eveybody come back home.  However, if an adult has walked way for whatever reason, I just can't do anything about it.
A few years ago. The Sally Army iirc used to make an Xmas appeal to adults saying,  just make a quick call to let your family know you're okay.

Missing People have stomped all over the Sally Army who now kowtow to them just as the Missing Persons Bureau was devoured.

Read Missing People's website. It's sickening.

As always this reeks of raising money rather than raising awareness. How much awareness do people need that others sometimes go missing? How much does general awareness help to find specific individuals? Finding missing people is a painstaking, laborious detailed task which is built around each particular case. At the same time, as we have seen so often, genuine cases are often resolved by pure chance. Self promotion - tug at the heart strings - give us the money. Perfect match for K and G. As others have said, please tell us first what actions you are actually taking to find these people. At the end of the day that is really all that counts.
