The day of the verdict felt bleak and I imagine we were all feeling extremely despondent about the whole case and especially for Dr Amaral.
Then we had the subsequent articles and despicable but obvious reporting in newspapers. I remember wondering briefly about turning away from this case
as there seemed zero hope of a truthful outcome.. but soon coming to my senses because by turning away we are just letting them continue the charade and lies.

However,  now I wonder that if the verdict hadn't been so catastrophic and extreme  i.e if the judge had awarded, say, £20k damages,  then we wouldn'tve seen such a
great response in terms of fundraising for Amaral / awareness of public / sympathy for Amaral / questioning of the Mc Canns. Because it was such an eye-opener there has been a greater reaction - which in turn has led to much greater awareness and donations coming in. Even more encouraging are the comments that you can reads on the fund-raising website - from ex policemen / people who have met Amaral through work / ordinary house-wives / families. It isn't just us, who frequent these forums, there are people out there who question this whole affair - and what with Twitter / Fundraisers / Forum posters - we make up a powerful group of people. So I feel confident that one day the truth will emerge.  I just wish there were ways of harnessing this power - and uniting all those people across the different media outlets.

Best of all The Sun - who advertised the fund !!  My partner suggested this may have been a deliberate twist and I wonder if that is a possibility.. if you were writing a smearing article intending to
condemn the 'trolls' who were supporting Amaral would you really give details of the fund? I think not - or at least I wouldn't . I would just suggest it and let the public believe the donators were hateful sick trolls.
But by leading the public to the fund then the public can see that the comments and donators are not 'sick trolls' but ordinary honest people who question what is going on. I havent see one nasty comment - just lots of support and heartfelt wishes for Amaral.

So from that bleak day of the verdict  - we have moved on - somewhere new .. and we should capitalise on this somehow...

Helenmeg, I have wondered what would have happened if Dr Amaral had count claimed against the McCann's, at the time of the ruling. The McCann's were awarded 41% of what they asked for? Dr Amaral didn't ask for any award. So, does that mean that Dr Amaral, if he had counter claimed for HIS wins (58%?) he would be in a far better position than the McCann's now find themselves in.

Without calling my daughter on the points of law, maybe Tony can explain whether Dr Amaral can now counter claim for the damage done to him, or should he have done so at the time of the ruling?

"Toes being dipped in the water" by MSM?

After all, we all KNOW they (TV and MSM) will 'say' "we weren't 'fooled' by the McS, not for a single second, of these last EIGHT YEARS!'

J Gamble will be 'shocked', Lorraine will 'stunned' (not literally!) and M Crunt will 'say 'bugger, there goes my nice little pension 'earner'"

You think?

He'll be there straight-faced on our screens reporting as news because no one except us will be bothered.

I totally agree with your comments. I too felt despondent and an enormous feeling of being impotent and powerless to do anything about the injustice we are seeing in the result of the trial, and previous trials, against Goncalo Amaral.

I would like to think that everyone here and all his other supporters on forums and in the general public and around the world could do something to stop this horrendous injustice. That everyone who queries anything about this case is not somehow being hateful. That the people allowing this to happen can manipulate another Countries Justice system is appalling, which is what I think has happened.

Whichever strategy GA takes I feel the people protecting the McCanns will have been there before him. They are in charge of everything.

I am not going away, I am continuing to support GA for as long as I can but I do feel that he is facing an enormous foe.

I don't know what's going on with some of the world's justice systems, but this is not the first time i have been shocked by verdicts of court cases. I think the first one was the Casey Anthony trial, then the Trayvon Martin case, the Meredith Kercher case and the Kelly Thomas case, where a young schizophrenic man was deliberately beat to death by three  cops in California and they walked after the Trial. These cases, and others were trials by Jury, but there is so much injustice in the world right now its like an epedemic. But as they say trials by jury are a crap shoot, there is no telling, and when we think a case is a slam dunk it turns out to be quite the opposite, to our dismay, as this lengthy protracted libel case has been with such a rotten outcome.
I guess libel cases in Portugal are different in how they are perhaps conducted in other countries. I think the judge really screwed up because there is no evidence the McC's proved their case, IMO, and i would like to know legally if she had the right to overturn what the appeal court had previously determined by Goncalo Amaral having every right to voice his opinion in writing a book, regardless of when he wrote it.
And i think what is so obvious to us all these days is the amount of corruption and cover ups that are going on and have been going on. So how can we trust in a system that is a big failure for the people it refuses to serve as it constitutionally is sworn to do by the laws as written in those countries.
