Madeleine's Mum In Missing People Run
Carole Erskine, Sky News Online
The mother of Madeleine McCann is taking part in a charity run to raise money to help find missing people.
Kate McCann has vowed to keep hunting for her missing daughter
Kate McCann will join the 10km Miles for Missing People run, taking place in London's Hyde Park on Saturday, with other families whose loved ones have vanished.
Rachel Elias, sister of former Manic Street Preachers guitarist Richey Edwards, who went missing in 1995, will be attending the event.
Nicki Durbin, whose son Luke disappeared in 2006, is also set to run.
Mrs McCann, 42, and her husband Gerry, 41, from Rothley, Leicestershire, were on holiday with their three children in Praia da Luz in Portugal when Madeleine went missing in May 2007.
She said: "I'm running the Miles for Missing People for all missing children.
"Gerry and I know the pain that having Madeleine missing has caused us, but sadly we are not alone.
"There are thousands of families across the UK waiting for news.
"That's why Missing People provides support for missing children, vulnerable adults and families left behind, and we want to do all we can to help them."
Mrs McCann is raising funds for her run at uk.virginmoneygiving.com/katemccann1.

'Missing People' were given one quarter of the proceeds of the McCanns' charity fund-raising bash at Virgin boss Richard Branson's place in Kensington back in January.

Kirsten O'Brien, one of the charity's 'Ambassadors', will be running this event in memory of 'missing' Mark Speight:

This is what Wikipedia tells us about Mark Speight:
Speight was also a presenter on See It Saw It, where he met his future fiancée Natasha Collins. He took part in live events, such as Rolf on Art and his own Speight of the Art workshops for children. He was involved in charity work; he became the president of the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign's Young Pavement Artists Competition, and was a spokesperson for ChildLine.
In January 2008, Speight found the body of Collins in the bath of their London flat. He was arrested on suspicion of her murder, but not charged with any offence. An inquest later determined Collins had died of a drug overdose and severe burns from hot water. In April, Speight was reported missing and committed suicide by hanging near Paddington Station. Two suicide notes were discovered a few days later, describing how he could no longer live without Collins.

Tempting to turn up to this event and distribute leaflets listing the 48 questions that Kate refused to answer plus the one where she admits that by refusing to answer, she may be hindering the search for her daughter.

She is running the event in memory of Mark Speight,
There is also a fantastic charity that was set up in his memory following his tragic death.
The SP8 of the Art Foundation has been established in order to fulfil two aims:
To seek out future artistic skills and talent in children aged between 4 and 18, in all its various forms including portraiture, landscape, fashion design, architecture, graphic design, sculpture and modern art.
To promote and encourage the involvement of all young people in art (as defined above) as a means of self expression; contributing to personal and community development.
A really worthwhile charity
(Sorry, OT I know)

Wouldn't quarrel with the aims of the charity, but here's more question marks about Speight from a discussion thread on 'GAY FORUMS':vaguely1 wrote:She is running the event in memory of Mark Speight. Awww the poor wee lamb commited suicide :?
After he was arrested on suspicion of murder it all went really quiet. I guess that alone killed his career in kids tv. plus the *shock surprise* that he took coccaine. saw the brief news report about him being found dead in London near Paddington station and that he left three suicide notes. but the news didn't say how he killed himself or what his notes said. and no tributes from his colleagues even. was he responsible for his girlfriends lethal OD in the bath? was he completely innocent? what drove him to commit suicide? the news said nothing. I smell something fishy.
Kevin Greening found dead. man arested in connection with it. then nothing. all gone quiet. what really happened? what did the post mrtem find? why the silence?

You sound surprised that people gossip about people on the internet?
After toiletgate, that you frequently refer to, I would have thought you'd think twice before bothering to C&P other peoples chat over to a forum.

Re: 6 miles of running by Dr Kate McCann for Madeleine McCann in Hyde Park - Saturday
This was much easier to find - maybe it wasn't seedy enough for you.
On the afternoon of 3 January 2008, Speight called emergency services after waking up to discover Natasha Collins's body in the bath of their St John's Wood flat, in northwest London. Speight told police that he and Collins had spent the previous evening "partying", drinking wine and vodka, and taking cocaine and sleeping pills.[11] Speight was questioned by police since he was the only other person living in the flat, and was subsequently arrested on suspicion of murder and of supplying class A drugs, but was released on bail until the first week of February.[12] Because of this, the BBC cancelled the Saturday repeat edition of SMart.[13] An inquest, which opened on 8 January 2008, heard that the death was not thought to be suspicious but should be "subject to further investigation".[14] At that point, police were awaiting results of toxicology tests after a postmortem examination was inconclusive.[7] The BBC cancelled repeat broadcasts of SMart and SMarteenies until further notice,[7] and on 28 February Speight announced he was quitting SMart, because the "tragic loss" of Collins had left him unable to continue with the show.[15] Speight denied any involvement with Collins's death,[14] and on 19 March it was reported that the police were no longer considering Speight as a suspect.[16]
In April 2008, the coroner recorded a verdict of death by misadventure in relation to Collins. The cause of death was "cocaine toxicity and immersion in hot water", according to the consultant pathologist. The inquest found that she had taken "very significant" amounts of cocaine with sleeping pills and vodka, and that she had suffered 60% burns to her body, including her tongue.[16] The coroner noted that at some stage in the night after both Speight and Collins had gone to bed, Collins got up to have a bath. He said that it was "more likely than not" that a heart problem had caused Collins to fall unconscious while the hot tap was running.[11] Following Collins's death, Speight moved in with her mother.[17]
Speight planned to meet with Collins's mother at Covent Garden for a coffee on the afternoon of 7 April.[18] He was dropped off at Wood Green tube station that morning, but never showed up to meet her.[19] Speight missed an appointment with a counsellor, but this was because of confusion over dates.[20] Two police officers spoke to him, as he appeared "vacant", "distracted" and "deep in thought", but he refused their help. He was captured on CCTV in the afternoon taking money from a cash machine at Queen's Park station, and he subsequently boarded a southbound Bakerloo line train.[18] He was reported missing the following day by family and friends, and his mother and the mother of Natasha Collins made a public appeal in which they urged him to make contact.[19] Speight's father also appealed for him to get in touch.[21]
[edit] Death and legacy
On 13 April, Speight's body was discovered hanging from the roof of MacMillan House, adjacent to London's Paddington Station, hidden from public view,[22] six days after he died.[1] The discovery was made by railway workers at 10:00 am,[23] and British Transport Police confirmed that the body was Speight's on 14 April 2008. An inquest into his death opened on 16 April 2008, and a post-mortem confirmed the cause of death as hanging. It was then adjourned until 20 May.[24] The police said Speight may have used a sixth floor fire exit to get to the area where he was found.[20]
The report of Speight's death on the BBC's children's news programme Newsround provoked complaints that it upset young viewers. The BBC decided to avoid using the word "suicide," and instead Newsround reported that "police don't think he was killed by anyone else."[25]
Speight's funeral was held on 28 April at St Michael and All Angels Church in Tettenhall, and hundreds went to pay their respects. The service included a performance by the choir from Tettenhall College, Speight's former school, and his coffin was carried out of the church accompanied by the theme tune of SMart.[26] In May, the inquest resumed and determined that Speight was deeply depressed from his fiancee's death. He had first tried to hang himself with his belt, which was found snapped in his pocket, and had ended up hanging himself with his shoelaces; it was also disclosed that suicide notes had been found, one in his left pocket, and one addressed to his parents in his diary at his home. The notes described how he could not "contemplate life without [Collins]".[27] The coroner Dr Paul Knapman said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death. In May 2008, Speight's father created a foundation, Speight Of The Art, or SP8 Of The Art, and launched it at a memorial service which took place on what would have been his 43rd birthday, 6 August 2008 at St Paul's Church in Covent Garden, London.[28]

Sorry Autumn, maybe Mr Bennett could clarify which comment it is. Or maybe you could hazard a guess? I can't apologise for something if I don't know what I'm supposed to apologise for. Not in any kind of meaningful way anyway.

The 'toiletgate' comment was uncalled for and offensive - what else is there to say? You usually come over as being quite reasonable and am sure, when you think about it, you will agree that your comment was unacceptable.

I don't agree it was unacceptable. Mr Bennett has frequently mentioned the evils of unfounded gossip on the internet in relation to this very matter.
He has stated on several occasions that there is, of course, no truth in these allegations and it illustrates perfectly the dangers of repeating gossip.
Why is it unacceptable to agree with him?

Yep, I am happy for that one to stand - because you had the whole of the internet to dig out information on the tragic death of this man.
Wiki is an obvious start, yet you didn't go for Wiki, you tried to infer that there was something suspicious about his girlfriends death with your first round of comments. Then you went to 'GAY FORUM' and copy and pasted scurrilous gossip rather than posting up the conclusion that the investigating officers reached.
So I won't apologise, and I appreciate that it wasn't actually you asking for an apology.
And Autumn please don't ban me for 24 hours, that's so pointless. You ban someone for 24 hours when they are being needlessly hot headed to give them a cooling off period. Just ban me for good (you can do this by banning my IP, it's a fixed IP not a proxy, and not AOL)
Hope that helps.

Ok, if Tony is happy to let it go, we'l leave it there.
Just to remind everyone that, even though we have different opinions we should try to keep it friendly and keep threads on topic.

What on earth has this got to do with Kate running 6 miles in Hyde Park?

No apology
What seems clear is that Speight was probably a cocaine user and supplier. A criminal.vaguely1 wrote:Yep, I am happy for that one to stand - because you had the whole of the internet to dig out information on the tragic death of this man.

Sorry, it may sound heartless, but I don't buy the story of the girlfriend waking up in the middle of the night and falling into a hot bath. OK, the Coroner couldn't prove otherwise, but I wonder what the girlfriend's family made of it all?

Autumn, what has this got to do with Kate running either?
Are you going to ask Tony to stay on topic as well?

Did you read Wiki? Mr Speight as taken in by her mother after her death.
You might not buy it Tony, but I would suggest that's because you are suspicious by nature.
Autumn, seriously, ban me for my own sanity please!!

Re: 6 miles of running by Dr Kate McCann for Madeleine McCann in Hyde Park - Saturday
