“It would not have helped Madeleine, she is beyond help.
However, I support any book that may help in bringing those responsible for her disappearance, to stand trial in a Court of Law. Hopefully, Snr Amaral will succeed in his appeal.”

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The simple first sentence (referring to Amaral’s book) “It would not have helped Madeleine, she is beyond help.” Two interlinked conclusions – the book would not have helped Madeleine, and Madeleine is beyond help. It is exactly the reason why the book is presently banned – the two conclusions offer no hope whatsoever for Madeleine. It doesn’t matter if people had drawn that conclusion before the book was published – the book reinforces and actively supports that position.
Then look at the second sentence “However, I support any book that may help in bringing those responsible for her disappearance, to stand trial in a Court of Law.” A very reasonable statement – almost everyone wants a resolution to the case determined by a court of law. It doesn’t matter who is responsible even if it is the parents, what matters is that the case is resolved.
The problem occurs when you read the whole paragraph which includes the phrase “she is beyond help”.
(Ignore the final sentence which is a person wish.)
Now come back to the thread title “+ & -“. Positive and negative.
Negative position:
“It would not have helped Madeleine, she is beyond help.
However, I support any book that may help in bringing those responsible for her disappearance, to stand trial in a Court of Law.”
Rewrite what autumn wrote:
“It would not have helped Madeleine; none of us knows what happened to her.
However, I support any book that may help in bringing those responsible for her disappearance, to stand trial in a Court of Law.”
Interesting – apply a positive in the statement and the book would still have been banned.
Rewrite again:
“None of us knows what happened to her.
However, I support any book that may help in bringing those responsible for her disappearance, to stand trial in a Court of Law.”
Interesting – take away Amaral’s book and it is all positive.
Positive + negative = negative
Positive + positive = positive
Everyone should remain positive until someone PROVES a negative.
