NEW! Brian Kennedy to buy Rangers?? (was: his generosity to Stockport County)
Brian Kennedy's generosity to Stockport County is highlighted on the BBC Sports pages today:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17098268
Brian Kennedy is the financial backer of the McCanns who bought a house in Knutsford to house the ongoing McCann Team investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann. His trusty in-house lawyer, Edward Smethurst, member of East Lancashire Freemasons Lodge and regular holidaymaker in Praia da Luz for the past 13 years, soon became the McCanns' 'co-ordinating lawyer' and Director of the hugely successful 'Find Madeleine Fund.
Kennedy masterminded the appointment of Spanish detective agency Metodo 3, worked closely with their lead investigator Antonio Gimenez Raso, and was the inspiration for the choice of security consultant Kevin Halligen to head the hunt for Madeleine. He followed that by his choice of former Detective Inspector Dave Edgar as his lead investigator, the man whose investigative skills first revealed that Jane Tanner might not have seen 'mustard chino bundleman' or Robert Murat, but a woman, and who claimed that a Victoria Beckham-lookalike - spotted by an anonymous British businessman in downtown Barcelona who had been drinking with friends for 6 hours - was 'a strong lead'.
Back to Stockport County. It remains the case that many Stockport County Football Club supporters lay the blame at Brian Kennedy's door for Stockport County's decline from League One to League 2 and then out of the Football League into the Conference.
It was nine years ago [2003] that Kennedy's enthusiasm for rugby club Sale Sharks inspired him to force a 'ground-share' deal whereby Stockport County F.C. were forced to share their ground with Sale Sharks R.F.C.
Many claim that Kennedy promoted his favoured Sale Sharks in preference to Stockport County, and the club seems to have gone into terminal decline since 2003. See for example this article: "Why the football club I love is in danger of being eaten by Sharks":

Nice pic of Brian, though, his sunglasses are cool, man

Ah say that's a lot of money... you hear boy!
If Mr Kennedy has invested £4m over the years and lost his investment and now offers further financial assistance to Stockport County FC, I don't think he can be critisised for that or have it used to leverage his character. It's £4m more than anybody else has ever invested during the clubs history. If Rangers and Portsmouth can go bust then so can just about any club. In any sporting or business arena non performance equals loss of money. That's a fact of life.
Tony I wish you every success in your court case with the McCanns. Their actions will precipitate their demise. Silly silly people.

Going on the above list, I wouldn't want him to give me advice on buying shares. How unlucky can you get?
He'd need regular holidays and weekends playing golf with his buddies in PdL to recover from his hard work.
By the way, why did he need to buy a house anywhere in the world to house the McCann investigation? I presume this house is in his name? So if all admin for the Fund is done there, perhaps it's tax deductable or charged to the Fund for rent etc.? Under part of the costs of the investigation or under 'searching for Maddie'.
The article seems rather tongue in cheek to me. Not actionable, but hardly flattering.

Re: NEW! Brian Kennedy to buy Rangers?? (was: his generosity to Stockport County)
Busy news day for our Mr Kennedy
"The Office of Fair Trading is to probe the merger of Wilmslow's Latium Group and Epwin Group, which is based in Cheltenham. The OFT said it was considering whether the deal could result in a substantial lessening of competition in the roofing products sector. It has invited comments from interested parties to be submitted by March 6. The merger, announced last month, creates a £275m-turnover business with 2,500 staff. The enlarged group is called Epwin Holdings. Brian Kennedy, owner of windows manufacturer Latium and Sale Sharks rugby union club, jointly controls Epwin Holdings with Jim Rawson. Mr Rawson founded Epwin Group in 1976 and is chairman of Epwin Holdings. Epwin Group makes and supplies building products such as windows, doors and conservatories. Latium's brands include Spectus, CET and Kestrel-BCE. "

Brian Kennedy edges closer and closer to buying Rangers
15 May 2012: Brian Kennedy edges closer and closer to buying Glasgow Rangers Football Club:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17364884
...while he and 'McCann co-ordinating lawyer' Edward Smethurst, who still represents Brian Kennedy AND is a Director of the 'Find Madeleine Fund: Leaving No Stone Unturned', continue to head up the search for Madeleine, with the help of Dave Edgar, and continue the search for public funds...to help them fund the search.

"Brian Kennedy Ready to Bail out Troubled Rangers"
""I don't really want to buy the club, but I don't want to see Rangers die," he told BBC Scotland.
"I've said from the start that if the administrators view my offer as the best one for the club, I'm happy to take it on.
"But I'll be equally happy if someone else can take it on."
Kennedy cited the way Sir David Murray's time in charge of Rangers has become tainted in the eyes of many fans because of the financial difficulties in the latter years of his tenure.
"That's one thing that makes me reluctant," he added. "It always ends in tears. It's like being Prime Minister!""
So Brian Kennedy is now the patron saint of lost causes?

Re: NEW! Brian Kennedy to buy Rangers?? (was: his generosity to Stockport County)
I had a very pleasing encounter a couple of weeks ago when a double glazing salesman came to my door, and I was able to tell him that although I did need some new windows at the back of the house I would be not be buying them from his firm, Everest. When he asked why, I told him it was because his boss, Brian Kennedy, was in my opinion an evil man who had assisted in the cover up of a child's killing and I wasn't prepared to put any money in his pocket. He was quite surprised and said that no-one had ever given that reason for not buying his products before. My motto is, Never miss a chance to put the record straight, and I am hoping he had to record people's reasons on the doorstep for not buying Everest windows.
