Is the Madeleine McCann Case on the GCSE 'A' level Law Curriculum? Empty Is the Madeleine McCann Case on the GCSE 'A' level Law Curriculum?

Post by Autumn 25.09.10 1:59

Went round to a friend's house this evening for a chat over a glass or two of wine. We got chatting about our children settling back into school life and their favourite subjects. My friend's daughter, Laura, is studying Law at GCSE level and had been told to write an essay about what she thought had happened to Madeleine McCann. Laura, who has only recently turned 14, wrote an essay based on her theory that Madeleine had been stolen by bad men who, on realizing that she would be recognised by many people, sold her to gypsies who are taking good care of her - for her efforts she achieved A+.

According to a GCSE and A level Website, Madeleine McCann does indeed appear to be on the curriculum.

Christ on a bike.

There were plenty missing children preceding Maddie, why her?
Why did school or rather should it be ministry of education decides to include her in the cirriculum.

What is the whole objective of it?
UK is becoming a joke. If it is because her fate is the greatest mystery of the century of missing children, then she paralleled jonbenett ramsey and did USA make JBR an exam subject?

Perhaps the Ministry of Education have decided that all students studying law must be indoctrinated/brainwashed into believing the McCanns' version of events, thus ensuring that, in years to come, there will not be a lawyer in the land that will challenge them.

Is the Madeleine McCann Case on the GCSE 'A' level Law Curriculum? Empty A dissertation by Natalia Salaman

Autumn,

Fascinating stuff, but I don't think the topic headline is accurate, I don't think you've substantiated the claim that the Madeleine McCann case is actually part of the GCSE Law Curriculum.

So I've changed the title slightly, hope you don't mind.

We need a link to an official site that says Madeleine is part of the curriculum - but you have referred us to an essay-writing site, not the same thing.

It's clear from your account that a 14-year-old girl has been asked to SPECULATE on what happened to Madeleine McCann. I doubt if she could give much back-up for her claims about Madeleine being snatched by paedophiles who then said, 'Oh dear, bit of a mistake here, let's hand her over to some kind gypsies'. And she got A+ for that??? - that is truly incredible...and very worrying.

I looked at the first link you gave and that appears to be an extract from a dissertation written by one Natalia Salaman, from the University of Westminster. She consulted me about the dissertation, wishing to at least mention that there was a contrary view of what happened to Madeleine.

I corresponded with her in 2008, and below I reproduce part of her disseration (with permission I hasten to add).

She had chosen as part of her degree to discuss the Madeleine McCann case and the media.

I will post the entire dissertation up if there is interest, meanwhile here's a taster from her dissertation:

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Question 7: This questions asked respondents to share their own about what has happened to Madeleine. The answers provided included some of the most probable causes of disappearance, as present in the media, including abduction, accident and being hurt at the hands of parents. Answers “None of the above” and “I don’t know” were also provided as choices.

Results: The biggest percentage of the respondents believes Madeleine was abducted from the flat, with 30% believing she was hurt by her parents. 23% of respondents chose the answer “I don’t know, I don’t have an opinion”, which means they are either confused or not interested.

Conclusion: There are many versions of what happened to Madeleine McCann, with public being divided. Considerably a lot of respondents believe in parents’ involvement, which doesn’t bode well for the future of the search as it doesn’t motivate the public to be alert. The issue of whether she was abducted by a predator or hurt by her parents is relevant to the level of empathy and involvement from the public.

Clarence Mitchell recognised the risks of this overexposure, when he said in an interview: “You reach a saturation point; people would say to us, 'Oh, it's tragic, but we've almost had enough of Madeleine'” (The Independent on Sunday, 2009).

Question 8: This question consisted of over 20 statements that represent different points of view of the story, with the respondents being free to choose as many statements as they like. Chosen statements should reflect respondents individual observations of the case.

Results: Full results can be found in the Appendix VI. The analysis showed that there is a great deal of distrust and blame on the McCanns with 70% of respondents agreeing that “McCanns should’ve taken better care of their children” and 46% pointing out that “They enjoyed their holidays at the safety of children”.

Nobody agreed that “McCanns are victims” (0%), and approx. 40% of respondents hold a belief that “Maybe there was an abduction, but the parents are the main party responsible, because they have left Maddie alone in the first place”.

Only 23% of respondents believe that media coverage was objective, same number of them agreeing, that McCanns were haunted by the media.

Conclusion: These results assign a great deal of responsibility for what happened to the parents. Again, for the Find Madeleine campaign to work, the public need to sympathise with them and not distrust them. It appears that actions of the parents came across as suspicious, with many readers picking up on inconsistency of testimonies, unnatural behaviour and manipulations by Clarence Mitchell.

Answer to this question in the questionnaire is consistent with doubts expressed by Tony Bennett summarised in the “21 Issues of Concern” (see: Appendix X).

Summary of the results of questionnaire

The results showed that respondents know more about McCanns that about Madeleine, more people recall their profession that Madeleine’s unique eye feature, which is much more relevant to the search.

Madeleine’s face is widely recognized, but the fact that the public doesn’t sympathise with parents threatens the search. The public seems to think it was parents’ own fault, as leaving a child alone as an accident waiting to happen, and this makes Madeleine less important in the narrative.

Portugal is linked to the story which can be a PR nightmare to the tourist industry, while other involve party, Mark Warner, has disappeared out of the picture.

The findings of the questionnaire correspond with the findings of content analysis: with time Kate and Gerry have become the focus of the media coverage, with Madeleine becoming a secondary character in the story. The fact that many articles from September period don’t include her photo implies her disappearance from the public domain.

Obtaining A+ for writing baddies got her then sold her to gypsies is indeed interesting.

If she'd written Maddie died in the holiday apartment; police suspect her parents are involved in her death and the circumstantial evidence vis-a-vis the dogs supports that, then can anyone imagine what her grade might have been. She would probably be suspended from school for that allegation or her teacher might send her to detention camp.

Thanks for amending the title, Tony, I assumed as students were being asked to write essays about the case that it must be on the curriculum.
Like you, aiyoyo, I believe that had she written that the evidence would suggest that Madeleine died in the apartment and there is nothing to support the abduction claim, I am sure that her essay would have been binned and she would have been spending some time in detention.

The girl's mum had believed the abduction story up until when she saw them on GMTV - she thought they both left her with the impression something wasn't quite right. Her doubts have since led her to the internet where she has seen a couple of vids which have caused her to question the abduction story. Anyway, we had an interesting chat and, as she was very keen to learn more, have given her links to the , Jill's excellent Blog, The MF and the McCannFiles websites.

I don't know what to think, but if this happened in the UK they would have got done for neglect. they are doctors, they are not exempt from prosecution, but seemed to have got away with it.

Hi Tony Bennett,Jill.

Is it Not disturbing that Twelve years since Madeleine McCann was reported as "disappeared" by Her Parents, Tapas 7/9 friends?

That there is an ongoing Police Operation Grange Investigation, where the Police often contrive to Not give an "ongoing Commentary"?

Yet Schools, Local Authorities are depicting essays for educational purposes, where Theories are awarded, even though the theories could be wrong on a "Live Police Investigation"?

14 yr Olds to write on a supposed disappearance of a child, who would be Two yrs older than them in today's environment, where it is the "Bogeyman" that Dunnit returned as Fact?
