Portuguese police are said to be closer to solving the Madeleine McCann case after talks with British officers on the new prime suspect.
Portuguese police are said to be closer to solving the Madeleine McCann case after talks with British officers on the new prime suspect.
It follows a tip-off that a “foreign” man was in the Algarve at the time of the youngster’s disappearance in 2007.
Correio da Manha newspaper said police will look at a “new clue and suspect” and claimed they “admit to being nearer to knowing what happened to Madeleine”.
Scotland Yard detectives met Policia Judiciaria officers in Porto to discuss the investigation.
A source there said: “The British were here recently, there were talks at the PJ office in the city.
“It’s all very secret but then it always is with the Madeleine case. Only the police know who the suspect is.”
This was the first face-to-face meeting since Scotland Yard reportedly gave the new suspect’s name to Policia Judiciaria.
It is not clear if the man’s current whereabouts are known.
Madeleine was three when she vanished from her holiday flat at Praia da Luz on May 3, 2007 while parents Kate and Gerry ate with friends nearby.
The local probe into her disappearance was axed in 2008.
The Met launched its Operation Grange in 2011.
Home Office chiefs have agreed to fund it for a further 12 months, making the bill so far £12million.
Scotland Yard would only say the investigation is “ongoing”.

BREAKING: Cops close in on ‘prime Madeleine McCann suspect in imminent case breakthrough’
BRITISH cops are closing in on the prime Madeleine McCann suspect in what could prove a huge case breakthrough.

Police are reportedly probing a “foreign” man seen in the Algarve around the time of her disappearance in 2007.
Scotland Yard officers have since met with Policia Judiciaria detectives in Porto.
A source in Porto told the Daily Mirror: “The British were here recently, there were talks at the PJ office in the city.
“It’s all very secret but then it always is with the Madeleine case.
“Only the police know who the suspect is.”
They “admit to being nearer to knowing what happened to Madeleine”, Correio da Manha newspaper reports.
Last month, German paedophile Martin Ney, 48, was reportedly identified as a leading suspect.
He is serving life behind bars in his home country for murdering three youngsters over a 20-year period.
Ney is said to resemble a photo-fit of a man said to have been seen with a child in his arms after Madeleine went missing in 2007.
Scotland Yard said in a statement: “The investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann remains ongoing.
“We are not providing a running commentary.

Re: Madeleine McCann: Portuguese Police 'closing in on number one suspect' in Portugal
I notice that this is the alleged investigation in Porto, and not the official investigation in Portimao.
Lets face it, a credible police force in Portugal are hardly going to work alongside British cops in this case case. And if they were working together, British cops would be expected to abide by the Portuguese secrecy laws in an ongoing case which means that there would be no leaks to the press and we wouldn't be reading about any suspect,
Why, all of a sudden, do we have a new suspect who cannot be named due to the secrecy laws, when in the past few years, new suspects have been splattered all over the newspapers? Furthermore, they don't know his whereabouts. Has he been interviewed?
It seems to me that British police have, for some reason, rushed over to Portugal trying to force a new suspect suspect into the Portuguese investigation and the PJ, have probably just said, "thanks we'll have a look" just to pacify them.
Funny how this should happen now, just after the Netflix film and the crazy media storm. Maybe the PJ really have got new evidence and they are panicking.
Note that this manipulation line appears yet again, they just cannot help but to drum this into every time

And we believe it, because it is printed in a Paper of Repute, along with so much other vital and TRUE news items
Erotic films, Pubic hair trimmed into unlikely shapes, tattooed woman, morbidly obese woman . .
and Madeleine McCann.
All bracketed together.
HOW DARE THEY DO THIS ?
Why do not Farter-Ruck and Maximus Mendax Mitchell and the entire might of the "Fund" come down on them like a ton (EU tonne) of bricks ?
But they don't.
" . . . I fell down in the gutter
and a pig came by and lay down by my side
As I lay there in the gutter
thinking thoughts I could not utter
I thought I heard a passing lady say,
"You can tell a man who boozes
by the company he chooses..."
And with that, the pig got up and slowly walked away"

Re: Madeleine McCann: Portuguese Police 'closing in on number one suspect' in Portugal
Police are reportedly probing a “foreign” man seen in the Algarve around the time of her disappearance in 2007.
The key word here is “foreign”
Foreign in relation to whom?
Are we talking foreign in relation to someone who does not look Portuguese in PDL such as British tourists as described by the 'native' witness/PJ?
Or...
Are we talking someone who does look Portuguese or at least not a British tourist as described by a British tourist/non Portuguese witness/UK police?
The way it is written it would imply that the alleged suspect was possibly a local, someone not from the tapas 7 and mccanns and therefore pointing the finger of suspicion away from the guilty duo and chums, a case of look over there not over here.
As we know, the PJ cannot and will not discuss anything to do with the case as directed by the law.
This means the story originated with the UK police and was leaked by them or someone close to the case, and we all know who that is likely to be.
The question now is, why have they come up with a 'new foreign suspect'?
The stories only appear when something else sensitive to the case crops up.
Could this be in relation to the recent granting of funding yet again?
Something to salve the protests and to justify why they keep getting funding?
Justification, "look you gave us money and we finded a suspect" so we need the extra funding.
Has something been found that points firmly to the mccanns involvement in Maddie's death, disposal and filing a false police report?
The PJ continue to remain silent and i suspect they don't even talk to the UK police about anything sensitive knowing the UK police will promptly leak it after telling the mccanns.
I suspect though the PJ will occasionally Tell the UK police something 'sensitive' to the case (although in reality it will be nothing, just something to see who is spilling the beans and also to see what response they get from the mccanns, things such as a statement to the public, a sudden trip to Portugal perhaps, a letter from carter-ruck, a post on their FB, maybe even a TV /radio interview or a big article in the papers/magazine with appropriate and carefully thought out poses.
The PJ will then take note of who said what and add it to the evidence and be careful what they say in front of the UK police.
Meanwhile the UK police are digging a very large hole and due to their remit are unable to question the mccanns and chums regarding the death , disposal and filing a false police report and investigating this as if an abduction had taken place here in the UK whilst they know the mccanns are prime suspects and that Maddie is long dead, which means the fund is illegal and something the UK police can prosecute them for.
The UK police are investigating an impossible crime, a crime that did not happen, and regardless of how many millions they throw in, the case will never be solved.
Only when they investigate this case as manslaughter/murder.other series non abduction crimes will the case be solved.
In the meantime though, i would love to see the UK police announce they are going to investigate the fund for fraud based on the known evidence in the case.
That would really put the cat among the pigeons especially with the tapas 7 being awarded an out of court settlement which they donated to the fund.
Even better if other countries such as America also decided to investigate the mccanns in relation to the fund and obtaining money by deception and wire fraud.

Re: Madeleine McCann: Portuguese Police 'closing in on number one suspect' in Portugal
It is hardly worth wasting Bandwidth, but . . . The Mail has it thus –
Does "Closer then EVER" – imply that they have been close before ?
Or it is like saying "this year the British Isles are further than ever from the continent of North America. By about 0.2 cm."
And if, as Hobs has pointed out, "Foreign" means not Portuguese, might he be from the UK, of Irish extraction ?
Police 'are closer than ever to solving Madeleine McCann case as officers identify a new prime suspect' in her disappearance from the Algarve in 2007
- A joint effort by British and Portuguese police has narrowed in on a 'foreign' man

I much prefer the term 'further than ever from the truth'. I know where I stand with that.

Madeleine McCann breakthrough? Police 'close in on new suspect' - 'All very secret'
By Martin Fricker
PUBLISHED: 09:07, Sat, Jun 22, 2019 | UPDATED: 12:32, Sat, Jun 22, 2019
The meeting with officers from the Policia Judiciaria was in Porto in recent weeks. It follows reports last month that police are close to solving the case after identifying a foreign paedophile as prime suspect. Operation Grange detectives travelled to Portugal as it was revealed the Home Office had agreed to fund the probe for another 12 months.
British police have been in regular contact with their Portuguese counterparts since their investigation was reopened in 2013.
But this was the first face-to-face meeting since the Yard reportedly gave the new suspect’s name to Portuguese detectives.
A source in Porto told the Daily Mirror: “The British were here recently, there were talks at the PJ office in the city.
“It’s all very secret but it always is with the Madeleine case. Only the police know who the suspect is.”
Scotland Yard said: “The investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann remains ongoing.
“We are not providing a running commentary.”
Operation Grange was launched in 2011 after Kate and Gerry McCann appealed for government help.
It comes after it was revealed in the 12 years since her disappearance the Metropolitan Police have spent almost £12million working on the unsolved case.
Madeleine McCann disappeared on the evening of May 3, 2007, from the Portuguese holiday apartment she was sharing with her parents, Kate and Gerry, and siblings Sean and Amelie.
Since the disappearance 12 years ago, British police have been involved in working on the unsolved case.
Their enquiry is known as Operation Grange, and it continues to be funded by the Home Office as an open investigation.
This month, the Home Office confirmed: “The cost of Operation Grange to date is £11.75million."
The investigation was initially handled by Portuguese authorities alone, however the Metropolitan Police joined them shortly after the disappearance to lend their expertise to the case.
At this stage, the force conducted an “investigative review” meaning that they analysed every aspect of the case – including private investigationsthat had previously been conducted into Madeleine’s disappearance.
In July 2013, the status of the Met’s involvement changed to that of an investigation, meaning that their focus changed to pursuing specific lines of enquiry.
The force has stated: “The Portuguese authorities retain the lead and the Met continues to work in support of them.”
This month, the Home Office confirmed it had released a total of £300,000 last year to Operation Grange from Special Grant funding, which wasearmarked for “significant or exceptional costs” to police forces.
The Metropolitan Police apply for funding every six months – last November, Scotland Yard’s request for £150,000 to continue their investigation was granted.
This year, which marks 12 years since the toddler’s disappearance, the Met put in a further request for funding up to March 2020.
