Paulo Reis: 'The McCann War'. A detailed analysis of the British Media campaign against Portuguese Police
This book has been in the making since 2012 but, CMOMM member and Portuguese journalist, Paulo Reis has finally found time to finish it.
It will be ready very soon to order in Portuguese...but there will also be an English version to follow without further ado.
More details will be posted here as and when we get them.

At long last !
An 'investigative journalist', a native of Portugal, who has followed this case from the very beginning spending time on location, talking with Dr Amaral, mingling with journalists and local people to get a ground level perspective of the investigation.
Joined up with the expertise of a UK former very senior police officer what more could be needed?

Great news, Paulo has certainly been in and around this case for a good while.
The title says it's about the British media campaign against the Portuguese Police, does it take in the case at all or just the injustice of reporting? Is it possible to get a sneak preview of the contents page?

Thanks for posting that link PeterMac, very informative.
One of the most interesting aspects was the talk of CR meeting with the press with the sole agenda of telling them there could be no charges without a body. It comes across to me - and not for the first time - that we have someone on the McCann side seemingly confident about a body not being found. Why would that be?

Haigh was also confident that dissolving bodies in sulphuric acid would ensure his acquittal - until Spilsbury identified a gall stone. It is not been necessary to have a body, though it makes the prosecution easier, of course.
In many of the modern cases involving the use of cadaver dogs there was no body at the time of the trial. In some remains were recovered later, often after a full confession after the trial, but in others, like the McCann's favourite one, no body or remains have ever been found.
1 The case with a legal significance may not yet have been fully appreciated, is that of
Jeanette Zapata. in Dane Country, USA. In 1976 she served her husband Eugene Zapata
with divorce papers. She went missing shortly afterwards. 29 years later dogs alerted in the
basement of the family home, and in several other places where the family had lived over the
intervening time. At trial his lawyer persuaded the judge that the dog’s finding could not be
admitted, since the places in which they had alerted indicated that he had carried the body
round to everywhere he had lived, and it was suggested that this was preposterous. The jury
failed to reach a verdict. Before his retrial however, he confessed, and crucially confirmed
that he had in fact transported the body round before disposing of it. The dogs had been
absolutely accurate. No body has been found.
Wisconsin - v - Zapata
