Express: Robert Murat - An Apology – 21 July 2017
On 19 June 2016 we published an article concerning the late Clement Freud and the abduction of Madeleine McCann (“Paedophile Clement Freud drank in same Portuguese pub as one-time Maddie suspect”).
PUBLISHED: 15:33, Fri, Jul 21, 2017 | UPDATED: 16:22, Fri, Jul 21, 2017The article also referred to Robert Murat who was totally cleared of any involvement in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.
We would like to make it clear that Mr Murat never met, nor had any connection with, Clement Freud, whether at the Portugal pub mentioned in our article or otherwise.
It was not our intention to suggest any wrong-ding by Robert Murat and we apologise for the harm and distress we caused him.

Re: Express: Robert Murat - An Apology – 21 July 2017
When are the Express and the rest of the UK gutter press going to apologise to all those who they falsely claimed to be suspects, To Goncalo Amaral for their lies the way that they have libelled him, to the Portuguese Police for all the abuse that they have thrown at them, to all us truth-seekers who they have incorrectly labelled as trolls and worse, and the world at large for misleading everyone over the McCann case and insulting human intelligence with all the nonsense that they have reported, expecting us to swallow it?

Interesting, as it shows that there are still lawyers active - and everyone is trying to "clear the decks . . ."
Now we have apologised to Murat, we can officially start on the only other two suspects . . . .
The article also referred to Robert Murat who was totally cleared of any involvement in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.
Err, was he ?
Either way it doesn't matter. It leaves the McCanns as the only TWO who have NOT been cleared of involvement. The Supreme Court of Portugal have said as much, in terms, explicitly, in writing, and broadcast across the world.

After a written campaign that involved countless emails, letters and negotiations, a man who himself has been the target of legal action by the parents of Madeleine McCann succeeded in getting an apology from the Daily Express newspaper. Written at the bottom of page 21 in today’s edition is a box, headed ‘Amplification and Clarification, Gonçalo Amaral - Correction’. Amaral had NOT lied in court, the paper conceded.
It was not a huge victory, Tony Bennett writes on the Jill Havern Forum, but it has publicly corrected an error that saw the former PJ policeman “publicly accused” of having lied about a death cover-up claim.
The full text of the Express correction was as follows:
“On the 29th April 2015 we published a headline on the front page which said “Maddy detective did lie about death cover-up claim”. We would like to make it clear that there was no determination by the Portuguese court that Mr Amaral lied. In fact the court ruled that Mr Amaral had breached the McCann’s right to reputation and ordered him to pay damages to them”.
Those damages are currently being appealed by Mr Amaral, who almost certainly had no knowledge of Tony Bennett’s efforts to clear the tabloid’s slur.
Was it worth it? Mr Bennett questions in today’s write-up: “He did not lie. I am personally content that I have not wasted my time and effort.”
Although the citing of the apology, at the bottom of the page, did not go unnoticed.
The full ruling on this point, adjudicated through the Independent Press Standards Organisation, will be available next week, Mr Bennett adds - while he has been forbidden from publishing any of the correspondence that went back and forth as he fought Amaral’s corner.

Just for comparison - I wonder who championed Robert Murat's apology?

A year later an apology (sought?) comes from the Express. Don't know if any damages were sought but the Editors at The Irish Sun must be quaking in their boots if financial recompense was involved -

[size=16]PAEDOPHILE Clement Freud regularly drank at a pub frequented by the former prime suspect in Madeleine McCann’s disappearance.
He and Robert Murat were on “nodding terms” at the Pigs Head, according to the landlord of the boozer in Portugal.
Freud, who was unmasked as a child abuser last week, was also a regular at a pub in Praia da Luz dubbed The Plough and Paedophile.
The fact Freud and Murat knew each other is one in a series of odd links that the dead former Liberal MP had to the McCanns.
Oh dear!! Robert could be heading for another big payout!

Oh dear, that just leaves the McCanns that definitely were acquaintances of known abuser Clement Freud.

Isn't it about time the media was forced to print apologies/retractions on the same page and in the same font size as the original incorrect information?

I hope Murat doesn't get another pay out. I certainly hope Rocky does at some point from all the papers who slated him.
