Presumably every single other newspaper front page in this mural featured wonderfully happy stories in which nobody suffered any harm or loss? Or was it just that the self-righteous Mr Gould couldn't understand any of the other newspapers because they were in foreign languages?

I don't blame the passengers for not wanting to pass that McCann article every day - I wouldn't want to either!

The artwork on the P&O ship Ventura depicts a row of people sitting and reading a selection of newspapers - one of which is the Sunday Times with a lead story on the search for missing Maddie.

But Michael Gould, 55, said that he did not believe the subject was suitable material to be displayed on a family-friendly vessel.

Madeleine McCann disappeared aged three in May 2007 while on holiday with her parents in the Praia da Luz resort in Portugal.

Despite extensive appeals and searches, her whereabouts have still not been discovered.

Dad-of-three Mr Gould, a company director, was on holiday with his wife Corinna and his youngest daughter Olivia on a cruise in early July round the Mediterranean.

He said the family had to walk past the artwork every evening to take Olivia, five, to a child's club on board the ship.

Mr Gould said: "I just thought it was a very odd piece of art, depicting the abduction of a child, to have on a family-friendly ship, we went past it every night to the child's club en route from our cabin.

"When I contacted P&O about it they more or less said 'well it's there'.

"P&O said the artist was depicting the sad realities of life, but I don't go on holiday to be reminded of the sad realities of life, I go on holiday to escape them.

"I'm disappointed P&O don't seem to have taken this seriously, and I think they're wrong."

Mr Gould said he had emailed the company and had a reply that the mural was not going to be taken down.

He said: "It was a very successful holiday, it would not be the case to say the whole holiday was ruined by this.

"We found depicting the anguish of a family at their child's abduction a very odd subject to have on a child-friendly boat.

"As parents, we found the piece of art wholly inappropriate."

A spokesperson for P&O said: "The artist intended to depict a snapshot of the headlines and capture a moment in time through actual front pages."

Interesting that the artwork shows the infamous photo of the parents laughing and joking as they come out of church on the day of Madeleine's 4th birthday.

"Errm, err, well, y'know we'd been working extremely hard, and errm, like, y'know it was . . . , Oh look, is that the time, What would you like for tea ."

Fascinating!

Who commissioned it I wonder? Did they not know the Mccanns object to the circulation/display of jolly picture depicting them as happy and not one bit devastated at that lost of their daughter. They kicked up a fuss over the netherlands book promotion pic when the press used it. That one (the one of them posing happily in netherlands) appearing in the papers was a transitory thing whereas this one being a "mural" is a permanent fixture is much more damaging for their image.

Ten of thousands of passengers both Brits and foreigners doing the crossing are going to see the happy pairs on their royal walkabout collecting flowers and gifts on Maddie 4th B/day.
They can't sue P&O I suppose or risk bringing unwanted attention to themselves.

The fellow wearing the brown trousers on sits like Gerry McCann is wont to.

Mr Far Right has a similar hairstyle to Simon Cowell.

All the ladies have very short skirts on...!
