Does seem an interesting choice while all this has been going on. Perhaps he just wants to make the point that all is well between the two countries despite everything?

It was due to a genuine misunderstanding - each parent thought she was with the other.

Good on DC for letting the world know that, contrary to some people's propaganda, Portugal is not awash with paedophiles and it's safe for families - as long as you look after your children properly, of course.

.... at least in paint to cover all the graffiti on walls and road signs.

I'm sure the McCann case isn't as important or interesting to DC as it is to us. To be honest I doubt he thought about it when booking his holiday.
