Brenda Leyland -Liverpool Echo 14/05/17
I have not been on the forum for quite a while but felt moved to point up an article in the Liverpool Echo tonight which I know to be untrue but don't feel qualified enough to respond directly. I can't set up a link from my tablet for which I apologise.

The Madeleine McCann troll

A woman accused of targeting Madeleine McCann’s parents with internet abuse was found dead in a hotel after being exposed by Sky News reporters.
Brenda Leyland, 63, posted vile tweets to Kate and Gerry McCann using the Twitter handle @sweepyface.

Her death came just days after Sky News reporter Martin Brunt tracked Mrs Leyland down to her home in Burton Overy, Leicestershire.
She was asked why she had been targeting the family, to which she replied: “I’m entitled to do that.”
An inquest later heard Brenda Leyland overdosed on helium - her body was found next to an ipad upon which she had researched “how to take your own life”.

The coroner recorded a verdict of suicide.
Last month, as the tenth anniversary of Madeleine’s dissapearance approached, Kate McCann spokeout about the ‘downright lies’ spread on social media about her and her husband.

I don't pretend to understand the purpose of your post - if the point you know to be untrue is other than the entry about Brenda Leyland then I leave it to you to elaborate. Otherwise the above is common knowledge.
I'm not posting the entire article as the site objects to my ad-blocker which makes it tedious.

Thank you Mysterion.
The article is insulting to Brenda Leyland. Leicestershire police said Brenda was not guilty of any crime. She died prematurely as a direct result of being hounded.
Liverpool Echo state online attack by trolls to "innocent people"
That statement is untrue in the McCann case as they have not been deemed innocent as per the Supreme Court ruling.
MSM are blatantly pushing articles of lies any which way they can, and in this they have found another opportune moment to lie again in support of Madeleines parents.
It isn't ever about Madeleine!
It is clear that the media wholey appease the McCanns no matter who they harm in the process. Instilling fear and opposing any voice that doesn't echo the MCCanns version of events.
Free speech is being targeted by the free press.... laughable if it wasn't so serious!
Rip. Brenda Leyland

Re: Brenda Leyland -Liverpool Echo 14/05/17
The Portuguese Supreme Court did not, I repeat did not, make any ruling as to innocence or guilt of the McCann couple. In upholding Dr Goncalo Amara's right to freedom of expression, by due process they ratified the conclusion of the Portuguese investigation. I quote..
'We believe that the main damage was caused to the McCann arguidos, who lost the possibility to prove what they have protested since they were constituted arguidos: their innocence towards the fateful event; the investigation was also disturbed, because said facts remain unclarified.'
I can't answer for Portuguese legalese, nor even pretend to understand it but the principal as regards European law remains intact - all citizens are innocent until proven guilty by a court of law. You can juggle with words but you can't juggle with established facts.
The Liverpool Echo article isn't insulting Brenda Leyland, it is merely re-hashing old news, they don't say she was guilty of a crime. What is insulting to Brenda Leyland's memory is dragging her name up at every given opportunity to poke fingers at the McCanns. It cannot be said that her untimely demise was a direct result of being hounded by Sky News, you simply don't know the true circumstances that led to her death - the method she reportedly used indicates to me that she'd been planning taking her own life for some time, not a spontaneous reaction to a sudden unexpected occurrence. Besides, she apparently met with Martin Brunt behind closed doors - who knows what was said. According to her son she was a very troubled soul, she should be allowed to RIP - literally!
More generally, as loathed as I am to use the word 'trolls', the behaviour on social media leaves a lot to be desired. What is written may not be illegal but my god, some of it's morally abhorrent. Just because one objects to a situation or person, that doesn't give you carte-blanche to be downright abusive. At least not in my moral compass! The internet being such as it is, I doubt if anything can be done to stop online abuse but it frankly doesn't help the fight for fair play in any given crusade for justice or even freedom of speech.
