The answer to Question 1 reveals that, despite

* Operation Grange having spent over £12 million,
* Operation Grange having run for over four-and-a-half years already,
* Operation Grange being one of the most controversial and expensive operations ever run by the Met, and
* Operation Grange having been under the direct control of some of the Met's most senior officers...

...the Mayor's Policing Committee has not bothered to receive either a written or verbal report on its progress. The Policing Committee is supposed to exist to monitor the work of the police.

As for the second question, the Mayor's FoI Act section has misunderstood the question. I asked about the number of representations concerning the remit and conduct, not the number of Freedom of Information Act requests. I know there's been at least one representation, because I made one myself. And I know there have been others. So I shall ask in the first instance for an internal review.

QUOTE LETTER FROM MAYOR OF LONDON FoI ACT SECRION, 7 JANUARY 2016

From: MOPAC FOI
Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime

7 January 2016

Dear Mr Bennett

Thank you for your Freedom of Information request to the Mayor's Office for Policing And Crime (MOPAC) dated 12 December 2015 relating to Operation Grange.

I confirm that I am replying to this under the Freedom of Information Act 2000. You asked for the following information:

1. Please list all occasions, giving dates, when the Mayor's Office
for Policing and Crime and its Committee has considered verbal or
written reports from the Metropolitan Police about the work of
Operation Grange, giving particulars of any reports and/or minutes
of such meetings.

MOPAC does not hold any information relating to this part of your request. Operation Grange has not been considered by the Mayor's Office for Policing And Crime (MOPAC) Police and Crime Committee.

2. Specify the number of representations received since 12 May 2011
by members of the public or others which have raised queries about
the remit or conduct of Operation Grange.

I confirm that MOPAC does hold some information relating to this request. There have been four Freedom of Information requests relating to Operation Grange since 2014.

Dr Martin Roberts: "The evidence is that these are the pjyamas Madeleine wore on holiday in Praia da Luz. They were photographed and the photo handed to a press agency, who released it on 8 May, as the search for Madeleine continued. The McCanns held up these same pyjamas at two press conferences on 5 & 7June 2007. How could Madeleine have been abducted?"

Amelie McCann (aged 2): "Maddie's jammies!".
