Why oh why are the UK establishment going out of their way to diss the Portuguese? Even Redwood, although saying pleasing words about the PJ, could not hide is patronising attitude towards the PJ, giving the impression that the `top class` detectives are there to help them out and point them in the right direction. It incensed me. He didn`t even have the decency to admit that the PJ had commenced their review 3 months before the SY arrived. He must think we`re all stupid - well I suppose a lot of people are !!

No Reason to Reopen McCann Case: Portugal
LISBON
Portuguese authorities have no new evidence that would give them cause to reopen an inquiry into the disappearance in 2007 of the British youngster Madeleine McCann, police said on Thursday.
“There are no new elements at the moment that would allow for the reopening of the inquiry,” Pedro do Carmo, the deputy head of the criminal police department, said.
His comments come a day after British police reviewing her disappearance said they believed she could still be alive five years after she went missing in Praia da Luz and urged their Portuguese counterparts to reopen their search.
Do Carmo said that a team of investigators would continue “to re-examine elements of the inquiry” in collaboration with British police but he said that such a practice was normal and did not constitute a reopening of the probe.
A British team from Scotland, which has been sifting through a wealth of material relating to the youngster, said on Wednesday they had identified 195 “investigative opportunities” that could be followed up.
They also released a computer-generated image, created by experts, of how Madeleine might look now approaching what would be her ninth birthday on May 12.
Do Carmo however said that the Portuguese police had received “no formal request for the reopening of the inquiry”.
Madeleine’s parents Gerry and Kate McCann have never abandoned their high-profile campaign to find their eldest daughter who disappeared on the Portuguese south coast on May 3, 2007 while her parents were at dinner.

just a thought...
SY have no reason at the start of their review to believe Maddie is dead.. Redwood quoted for all to see as saying they are following EQUAL lines of enquiry, Maddie being dead or alive .
if at the outset that was their view.why is there
an appeal released almost a year later
an updated photo released a year
why not both, but much much earlier than now?
unless coincidentally they have come by some wonderful new info to prompt them to set things in motion.....just as 5th anniversary approaches.

Madeleine McCann case not being reopened, Portugal police say UK Police seek to bring closure to the case
Portuguese authorities say they are not reopening their investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.
Police in the country said there were no new elements that would allow for the inquiry to be reviewed.
Madeleine's parents had called for the case to be reopened after UK police said they had identified 195 "investigative opportunities".
Madeleine, from Rothley, Leics, was nearly four when she disappeared from a holiday apartment in Portugal in 2007.
But on Thursday, Pedro do Carmo, deputy head of the criminal police department, told news agency AFP: "There are no new elements at the moment that would allow for the reopening of the inquiry."
Earlier, a spokesman for her parents Kate and Gerry McCann told the BBC they had been "hugely encouraged" by new moves in the case.
Clarence Mitchell said Mrs McCann was "particularly pleased" with the strong family resemblance in a newly released age-progressed image of Madeleine.
Mr Mitchell told BBC Breakfast Mr and Mrs McCann were "coping as best they can".
Judicial approval
A British investigative review was set up last year, following a meeting between then Met Commissioner Sir Paul Stephenson and the Home Office.
Mr Mitchell added that Scotland Yard said it was quite possible that the missing girl could "still be alive" but it was "up to the Portuguese authorities" to decide to re-investigate the case.
Speaking about the computer generated image issued on the 25 April, Mr Mitchell said: "We need to remind people around the world that this is probably what Madeleine looks like today, not the very famous picture of her when she went missing. This is Madeleine as a young girl now."
Det Ch Insp Andy Redwood, who is leading the UK review, told the BBC's Panorama programme his team were "seeking to bring closure to the case".
He said he understood her disappearance was an abduction, mentioning 195 "investigative opportunities" which could advance the case, but police did not reveal what evidence they had to imply that Madeleine was still alive.
Mr Redwood's team of more than 30 officers has visited Portugal seven times and has returned to the holiday flat in Praia da Luz where Madeleine is believed to have disappeared.

They have to trash the PJ because they can't trash the evidence. They want peoples' attention on the incompetents not their competent findings.
They want the Portuguese to reopen the enquiry, but in a manner that is to the liking of the McCanns and those behind them. The new inquirywould take the shape of one that also trashes the findings of their incompetent colleagues. A bit like the Sy review. Exactly like it in fact.
I think the PJ are perfectly aware of this. They do not consider the rubbish that is being touted - imaginary abductors and efit photos - as new evidence.
I have far more faith in the PJ than SY who have clearly been manipulated. If they get new evidence relating to the McCans they will reopen it, on their terms. They may already have it.
As for putting faith in Redwood and his soul selling compadres, don't forget he referred to anyone who questions the McCanns story as 'conspiracy theorists'. Those words serve to create a picture in peoples minds that if you question the McCanns or by inference now, SY, then quite simply you are a nutter, not to be listened to. They are not the words of someone interested in uncovering the truth, quite the opposite in factt.

Another excellent post monkey mind, Yep, the totally rubbish PJ being lambasted, whilst the Brit cops are excellent, uncovering all this evidence the bumbling PJ missed, it is all so transparant.

I have been looking for this re conspiracy theories from Redwood but have not yet found it...I read a journalist saying he dismissed conspiracy theories, but I interpreted that as her assumption of what he meant when he was speaking...not that he actually said those words.

Candyfloss, indeed, very transparent. And if the current PJ were to suddenly do an about face and denounce the findings of their colleagues they would suddenly be elevated from pariah status to one of the most highly regarded police forces in the world.
Judging by how high this appears to go there is little doubt that much political pressure will have been applied behind the scenes for this to happen and I would suggest that so far, it has been resisted, hence the need for thePanorama prog and its lambasting. In this regard, the program can be seen as a good sign, the Portuguese lady of justice is not for turning.
If the PJ reopen the investigation at some point, and we no they are looking into it despite what they say, if they reopen it and it is NOT immediately preceded by a public notification in the media that the McCanns have so requested it, then this would be a very good sign indeed imho.

Madeleine's parents want the case reopened.
Maybe now Mitchell has said that, some journalist will ask them next week, will they consider going for a reconstruction to help provide some new evidence to trigger a reopening. Seeing as they want it so much.

The way SY rushed in the media declaring those new leads and saying the case should be reopened and straight away the portuguese police respond that there is no ground to reopen the case. This is really a resounding differences. What a shame of sY. just a circus show going on..

It's here monkey mind and Russiandoll,
Dismissing conspiracy theories about Madeleine's parents' involvement, Redwood said he believed the girl's disappearance was the result of "a criminal act by a stranger".

Maybe now Mitchell has said that, some journalist will ask them next week, will they consider going for a reconstruction to help provide some new evidence to trigger a reopening. Seeing as they want it so much.
Come on, they are only saying that because they know that is not ever going to happen. It's just PR.
Remember SY updated them all along.
If they want really want it reopened that badly they should put their money where their mouth is by writing to the PJ just as they did to DC about the review.
