Police probing disappearance of Madeleine McCann 'set to get hundreds of thousands of pounds in new funding'

  • The search for Maddie, who vanished in 2007, has cost £13million since 2011

  • The Home Office confirmed they have received a new application for funding

By ELIZABETH HAIGH
PUBLISHED: 02:01, 27 March 2023 | UPDATED: 02:01, 27 March 2023

Police investigating the disappearance of Madeleine McCann are to receive hundreds of thousands of pounds in new funding in an effort to finally discover what happened to the three-year-old.
A significant sum has been requested by the Met Police and is likely to be approved by the Home Office, the Sun reports.
Madeleine went missing while on holiday with her family in Praia da Luz, Portugal in May 2007, vanishing from their accommodation without trace.
Each year hundreds of thousands of pounds are spent on attempts to find her, with a total of £13million being spent since 2011.
A source close to the ongoing investigation last night said her parents would be 'delighted' with the news.

The source said: 'This is excellent news. Maddie's parents Kate and Gerry will be delighted. It gives fresh hope.'
There had been fears the probe into the toddler's case could be cut back amid budget cuts.
Maddie's siblings Sean and Amelie McCann were in the same room as their sister, then three, when she vanished.
Born on February 1, 2005, the twins - who were just two and a quarter at the time - recently turned 18 and reached adulthood.
Maddie disappeared from her bed in the holiday villa while her parents Gerry and Kate, from Rothley in Leicestershire, were having dinner with friends at a nearby tapas restaurant just 55 metres away.
Kate checked the children at 10pm to find Maddie had disappeared but the twins were still sleeping soundly in their cots.

Former Metropolitan Police detective Peter Bleksley told the paper: 'As long as there are unanswered questions I can see why there is a case.
'But, in the this time of squeezed budgets, I can also see why eyebrows would be raised.
'I understand the frustrations of missing children who do not have the luxury of such ongoing funding.'
A Home Office spokesperson confirmed last night that it had received an application for further funding, but the exact amount being discussed is unknown.
The sixteenth anniversary of Maddie's disappearance is approaching this year. She would be 19, turning 20 in May if still alive.

HOORAY ! ! !  It is still alive.

Which means there is still a chance of submitting more evidence and closely argued theses
and therefore still a theoretical chance that someone will realise that the question to be asked is

"WHAT HAPPENED to Madeleine McCann?"

and not all the nonsense about Who did something they have already decided.
And that in turn means that FOI requests in the future will have to explain why they did not and have not considered fully the evidence they had been given.

There is something very fishy going on, I'm convinced it's because if they  close the fake investigation into Madeleine's disappearance, the freedom of information gate will open

Interested people will ask some very difficult questions, they have found not one scrap of evidence that points to Madeleine having been taken in all these years.

They will have to give a reason for asking for yet more money, unless of course, It's already decided and it's just a scam to keep it going.
I wonder how many detectives are still holydaying in Praia da Luz in the name of Madeleine.

MADELEINE McCann police are set to get hundreds of thousands of pounds in new funding.

Met chiefs’ request to the Home Office is likely to be approved.

So far their missing persons probe, Operation Grange, has cost an estimated £13million since 2011.

This year £302,470 funding was approved. But there had been fears it could be cut.

A source close to the investigation said last night: “This is excellent news. Maddie’s parents Kate and Gerry will be delighted. It gives fresh hope.”

Madeleine vanished from Praia la Luz, Portugal, in May 2007. The initial Met team of 40 officers is down to four detectives.

Peter Bleksley, a former Met detective, said: “As long as there are unanswered questions I can see why there is a case.

"But, in this time of squeezed budgets, I can also see why eyebrows would be raised at further funding.

“I understand the frustrations of families that have missing children who do not have the luxury of such ongoing funding.”

Prime suspect, German Christian B is in jail for rape and could be charged this year.

The Met said its missing person probe was continuing but would not discuss costs.

The Home Office confirmed it had received an application, adding: “It will be considered, as usual, in line with our Special Grant process.”

'Hundreds of thousands .... bit open ended isn't it?

We go through this cobblers every year, no doubt now because Easter is on the horizon swiftly followed by the next anniversary.

A police investigation would not continue to be active without evidence to work on, to take the case forward.

A sick Polish/German/American poseur who thinks she might be Madeleine McCann and some incarcerated German with a string of alleged crimes under his belt does not constitute evidence.

Peter Bleksley, retired cop, has taken over from Colin Sutton as the mouthpiece outsider poking his beak in where it's not wanted. He works on the united hypothesis of stranger abduction - a burglary gone wrong.

Operation Grange

On 12 May 2011 the Met announced that, at the request of the Home Secretary, it had agreed to bring its particular expertise to the Madeleine McCann case.

The then Commissioner, Sir Paul Stephenson, considered the request and took the decision that on balance it was the right thing to do. This was subject to funding being made available by the Home Office, as this case is beyond the Met’s jurisdiction.
Investigative review

The Met’s involvement, known as Operation Grange, is led by the Specialist Crime Command unit and involved, in the first instance, an ‘investigative review’. This was a review of all of the investigations that had been previously conducted into the circumstances of Madeleine McCann’s disappearance.
Ongoing investigation

In July 2013 the status of the Met’s enquiries changed to that of an investigation, working with the Portuguese authorities to pursue specific lines of enquiry.

The Portuguese authorities retain the lead and the Met continues to work in support of them.

The Home Office continues to fund Operation Grange.

Lest they forget ....

Funding for Operation Grange

Posted by: Home Office news team, Posted on: 5 June 2019 - Categories: Fact sheet, Leading stories

Clarification on the funding for Operation Grange.

There is continued interest from the media and the public concerning funding for Operation Grange, the Metropolitan Police Service’s (MPS) investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.

We have received a request from the MPS to extend funding for Operation Grange until 31 March 2020. Funding for the investigation is provided by the Home Office through Special Grant funding which is usually available to police forces when they face significant or exceptional costs.

All applications for Special Grant funding are considered carefully on their individual merits, however, decisions are made in batches to allow us to better consider the impact on the overall policing budget.

Due to this, the next round of Special Grant funding will not be decided until October, however we have written to Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime in the meantime with assurance that the MPS will receive a similar level of funding for Operation Grange for 2019/20 as it did for the previous year.

Last year the Home Office provided £300,000 of funding to the MPS. The cost of Operation Grange to date is £11.75m.

Funding for Special Grant applications can be paid retrospectively for operational work already done in the same financial year. As usual, full details of any Special Grant awards in 2019/20 will be published after the end of the financial year.

The Home Office maintains an ongoing dialogue with the MPS regarding funding for Operation Grange.

When considering special grants applications, the Home Office does not take a view on whether an investigation should continue, which would be an operational matter for the police.

As this is an ongoing police investigation, questions about Operation Grange should be directed to the MPS.

But of course, as always, that will be ignored to pave the way for their version of the truth.

I think the Met. Police can keep the case open, on paper, indefinitely - and it seems that's exactly what they are doing and will continue to do.

Why remains a mystery.

I don't believe Operation Grange continues in order to avoid awkward questions, for years those pesky questions have been circulating with FOI requests by the score submitted. They never answer questions if they don't want to, the various departments just pass the buck - I think we all have experience of their wily ways in our daily lives.

Whenever an establishment scandal is revealed, over a subsequent period of time, more and more names appear to be connected which only goes to show how deep the scandal. More often than not, the latest revelation will slowly but surely be connected with past scandals - bit like the grand issue of child abuse that continues to be plugged faster than unplugged.

All big cover-ups, such as that of the truth behind the case of Madeleine McCann, have a core support network. In this case the press and media have always featured prominently, no surprises there as the group vindicated already had connections before the incident.

Even Clarence Mitchell who allegedly represented the British government, had strong connections with the press and media prior to his governmental appointment as Master Media Manipulator in Chief. Maybe Mitchell was pulling-in a few favours.

Makes you wonder where the core players HQ is situated .... Chipping Norton per chance?

Look back over the years, all roads lead back to the press and media
