Are the McCanns desperately hoping that one, or more, of the people being hounded by the PJ and Operation Grange SEVEN AND A HALF YEARS after the alleged events,
will finally crumble under the psychological stress they have submitted everyone to, and commit suicide,
so that He / She, or It can be announced to have been the person involved ?

You ask a very valid question PeterMac, but I think Brenda Leyland's death is much too recent and too thought provoking. Another mysterious demise would alert even the most cynical observer.
As has often been stated on this forum, Joe Public are not as daft as the media, the lawyers and the paid reputation managers would like to think.
Having tried to pin poor Madeleine's death on a multitude of nefarious characters, It would not work for so many reasons.
In the tradition of the complex murder mystery, solving the case has to be because the process of elimination has been arduously adhered to. There is no room for anymore fantasy.

It would make for a nice tidy ending. Another mysterious death perhaps? One that rivals being run over by a tractor? How else does this end?

- None of the suitable patsys so far have worked (not for lack of trying and media testing though). The internet is a big problem - any possible patsy has to be able to survive intense internet research and scrutiny.

- They have pretty much run out of arguidos.

And if they now announce that none of the 11 new arguidos had anything to do with it, surely the inevitable conclusion must be: "Well, maybe it was the parents after all..."

That cannot be permitted, so rather than another death - might they go for the "Barry George close" and plant some fake DNA evidence? If they do, it has to implicate either the schizophrenic or the pig-farmer. Someone who, like BG, has zero resources, family or supporters to defend him.

Nicke posted a link from a newspaper report yesterday (Daily Mirror I think) which said that privately the Pt. police have rubbished the Burglator scenario.
