Re: Twitter/Breaking News updates
I love Louise Mensch! She is sticking her neck out for the truth and using her position to good effect. I thought it was very clever to use her paramilitary position to use piers morgan 'little trick' from his book. Got the ball rolling which I think was the point, as she knows the truth and people out there have the proof they need to come out and speak

Wait for the fireworks to start properly.
If they are buying his silence, they don't have to do it 'on the record'.
It is a multi-billion pound company!

Well if they haven't done so - and it would seem they haven't judging from Mulcaire fight back -
it's probably too late now.
Coming after he'd been to jail (without exposing the company's culture) then to be stabbed by jr murdoch who did it to save his own skin, it's just adding insult to injury, I doubt his silence is buyable now because it has gone full blown and he was left for dead by the v. people he protected in the first place.

Key figure at News International arrested
Phone-hacking scandal:
Key figure at News International arrested
Unnamed man, believed to have been a key figure at News International, taken into custody for questioning
Amelia Hill guardian.co.uk, Tuesday 2 August 2011 12.33 BST
Unnamed man held over phone-hacking inquiry at News International. A key new arrest has been made in the ongoing phone-hacking scandal.
The unnamed man apparently did not know he was going to be taken into custody when he arrived by appointment at a police station in London at 11am on Tuesday to answer questions about the phone-hacking scandal.
Police from both Operation Weeting, the Metropolitan police investigation into alleged phone hacking, and Elveden, the investigation into allegations of inappropriate payments to police, are understood to have been involved.
The development is the latest in a scandal that has already caused the closure of a 168-year-old newspaper, the News of the World, and the resignation of two top police officers, as well as 10 arrests.
The man at the centre of the new arrest is believed to have been a key figure at News International. He is understood to have been arrested on suspicion of conspiring to intercept communications, contrary to Section1 (1) Criminal Law Act 1977, and on suspicion of corruption allegations contrary to Section 1 of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1906.
They are the same allegations that Rebekah Brooks, the former News of the World editor and ex-News International chief executive, faces since her arrest last month.
After being questioned by police – a process that, judging by previous arrests, could last for many hours – the man is expected to be released on bail until October.
Others arrested and bailed have included Brooks, ex-NoW editor Andy Coulson, ex-NoW assistant editor Ian Edmondson, ex-NoW chief reporter Neville Thurlbeck, senior ex-NoW journalist James Weatherup, freelance journalist Terenia Taras, an unnamed 63-year-old man, and ex-NoW royal editor Clive Goodman

Consider the possibilities - this applies to each of them separately
They fail to do a proper job.
This is subject of complaint and a further enquiry finds they did not do it properly.
Their careers are over.
They do a proper job
People are exposed, prosecuted, convicted and imprisoned.
Their careers take off, and given the lack of experienced senior staff in the Met these days, and what is more - the lack of Senior staff over whose names the taint of suspicion does not hang, their career paths could show meteoric rise. We may be looking at a future Commissioner, and Redwood could end up at Bramshill lecturing on major crime, and retire in the rank of DAC Crime.

There may well be Stella, but I think it is more to do with the Met police case, and forthcoming arrests etc., he wouldn't be wanting to divulge anything that could jeopordise that. I hope anyway!

Sorry to appear dumb but I don't use Twitter so don't know how it works and how the information is shown on it. Is Tom Watson replying to a McCann story or twitter, is he definitely referring to the McCanns?

Hi Newintown,
No, don't think he is referring to the McCann case, just hacking in general.
