Around 40 relatives and friends of the Bristol teenager Becky Watts packed a courtroom for a hearing involving six people charged in connection with her murder and the concealment of her remains.

Becky’s stepbrother, Nathan Matthews, is accused of murdering Becky, whose body parts were discovered 11 days after she vanished from her home.

His girlfriend, Shauna Hoare, 21, is charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice while three men and one woman are accused of helping Matthews dispose of and conceal the 16-year-old’s body parts.

Matthews and Hoare both appeared at Bristol crown court for an administrative hearing via videolink from Long Lartin prison in Worcestershire and Eastwood Park in Gloucestershire respectively.

Places for 16 close members of Becky’s family, most wearing badges with the girl’s face on them, were reserved in a public gallery within the body of the court. Others watched from a second gallery above the court. Some cried, others held hands.

Among family members was Becky’s grandfather, John Galsworthy. Her boyfriend, Luke Oberhansli, also attended.

It is understood that there are continuing investigations.

Prosecuting, William Mousley QC indicated that the crown intended to draw up a joint indictment involving all six defendants and said a trial could last up to seven weeks.

The recorder of Bristol, Neil Ford QC, set a provisional trial date for 5 October and said the case would be heard by a high court judge.
Twin brothers Karl and Donovan Demetrius, 29, Jaydene Parsons, 23, and James Ireland, also 23, are charged with jointly assisting an offender. They are accused of assisting in the disposal and concealment of the body parts, intending to “impede the apprehension or prosecution” of Matthews.

Only Ireland appeared in person in court. Parsons also appeared via videolink from Eastwood Park, sitting next to Hoare. The Demetrius brothers were to appear later.

None of the lawyers representing the six made an application for bail.

Becky vanished from her home in Crown Hill, St George, Bristol, on 19 February. Police launched a huge search after she was reported missing the following afternoon, including a social media campaign. Body parts were found at an address in Barton Court, Bristol, around two miles away.

Thanks for that info Doug D,I did notice its 6 people charged now and I'm wondering WHAT went so terribly wrong for this to happen to this young girl and worse still is her step brother accused of her murder ?

All these young people involved who's lives have changed forever and the families that are left broken ?

I feel I have learnt a lesson from this case.

As soon as Becky vanished I was convinced her father was involved in her murder. Convinced. Took to the internet like Miss Marple, looking at YouTube videos where he described her in past tense despite no evidence she had died.

Hell, I even found his sobbing on a video a bit Mick Philpot-esque, bit hammed up for the cameras.

Well I was wrong and I was a troll.

Has made me look at the McCann case again. Personally I think the PJ forensic team and the first officers on the scene failed MBM.

As it stands there is not really any evidence she was abducted, but there is also not really any evidence her parents killed her.

In fact there is not very much evidence of anything due to policing cock-ups.

I have gone from being convinced it was the parents, to now believing that in the absence of any definite evidence it is wrong to point the finger at anyone, especially parents who could be totally innocent.

Sorry if that makes me unpopular on this forum. Yes the McCanns are really annoying self-important arrogant people, but there is no evidence that they are anything more sinister than that.

I definitely believe she is dead and the second part....I really do not know.

I always trusted my judgement before the Becky case. Now I have been proven wrong and personally feel like a total cow over my comments regarding Becky's dad. I am ashamed of myself to be honest because I got it badly wrong.

Benion - we all do it - it`s part of our survival mechanism. Discrimination is necessary and often based on thoroughly reliable gut feelings.  Anyway we don`t know if the father was completely ignorant of the goings on do we, or what he knew and still knows.

Trust your instincts I say, but don`t broadcast it or start accusing.

What do your gut instincts tell you about David Cameron?  Say no more.

You see that is what I suspect. I think he probably had some clue that Becky was mixing with the wrong crew and may have suspected her dead when there was no body discovered. That does not make him guilty of any crime though.

Don't be so harsh on yourself.  As you say, you've learnt something. 

There may not be evidence that the Mcs killed their daughter (I don't believe anyone here has made that claim) but IMO they are implicated in her disappearance.

I trust my gut and in this case my gut was on the fence, weirdly. Now I know a bit more about who was charged with murder, it makes more sense to me now. I won't post my thinking right now with the upcoming court case, though.

Re: McCanns, I don't think many believe in the killing theory. As far as the PJ cocking things up? Well they did an enormous amount of work in a very short period of time and felt confident enough to publish the files. 

Not only will we never see OG's files, what have they achieved in 4 years the PJ didn't in <6 months?

The police did well, but there were several glaring errors:
1. The first police on the scene were not specialist detectives, merely local officers. The hotel room should have been declared a crime scene immediately, not let holidaymakers and the tapas group traipse in and out destroying evidence.
2. One forensic officer stuck their briefcase on a window ledge.
3. The McCanns were not interviewed the night of the appearance and were only interviewed the following day. The initial PJ interview was done as a couple. They should have been interviewed separately. The first interview is the one most likely to shed the truth on what happened as it would have contemporaneous evidence, before any suspects got together to get their stories straight.
4. Some PJ forensic evidence was sent to a British forensic lab and mysteriously disappeared.

I think it`s safe to say, as per John Stalker, "Kate and Gerry McCann are hiding a big secret"

Matthews is also now jointly charged with perverting the course of justice with his girlfriend, who was also originally charged in March.
The couple also face more charges that do not relate to Becky's death.
Both are accused of four counts of making indecent images of children.
In other matters that don't relate to Becky, Matthews has been charged with sexual assault and voyeurism.

These new charges will be added to the indictment at the next court appearance, which is a plea and case management hearing at Bristol Crown Court on August 4

"Further investigations" - When I am feeling wildly optimistic, I think that Operation Grange are doing just that with their 38 officers with a huge investigation which goes way beyond what happened to Madeleine. Having said that, optimism has been my downfall before.

Nathan Matthews, 28, is already charged with the murder of the 16-year-old and now stands accused of perverting the course of justice, conspiracy to commit false imprisonment and preventing her lawful burial.
His girlfriend Shauna Hoare, 21, has also been charged with the murder of Becky, jointly with Matthews, as well as perverting the course of justice, conspiracy to commit false imprisonment and preventing her lawful burial.
Avon and Somerset Police have also charged the pair with possession of a prohibited weapon and four counts of making indecent images of children.

Truly terrible, RIP Becky.

What struck me reading this were others involved in hiding/disposing of her body.  Two have already pleaded guilty.  It just goes to show it is not too far fetched to think friends will help out, even for something so awful as having body parts in your shed.  I understand they claim they were not aware they were hiding body parts though.

Still it goes to show help from friends is not as ludricrious idea.  It can, and quite clearly does happen.

I would like to commiserate prayers and sympathy to the immediate family of Rebecca Watts at the present moment in time.
Words cannot express how I have felt reading the Daily Mail article and can only hope that Rebecca's immediate family can some how find the strength over the next few weeks at the trial of their daughter's killers and associates.
At times like this you really do despair of the human race and the acts of depravity that people will go to? 
May you have Eternal rest Rebecca Watts, free from the evils of this World.

Is anybody following this trial, its very sad, poor Becky nobody liked her according to her killer ? She was rude to her step mom (his mother).

Wonder if it had crossed his tiny mind that Becky perhaps did not like her step mom ! Teenagers very rarely get along with step moms/ dads.

They clearly are not the brains of Britain, how could they be so stupid and callous towards her.

He just wanted to scare her he say's........Did he not think she would tell on him ?

Well, who would have thought the Step bro and his wife /girlfriend were perves !!! She must have been so scared when she realized who it was and that she was not going to come out of this unharmed . Very sad, but just shows perverts can be any age not just old and in rain coats and could be in anyones family........Just wonder if her Dad now thinks if he had not taken this woman into his life, her son would not have had access to his daughter !!!

It was clear that Becky did not like the family who her Dad had chosen to bring into the family and marry and her instincts have been prooven right.

R.I.P Becky Watts....such a sad end to a young life.

A killer obsessed by violent teenage pornography has been convicted of murdering his 16-year-old stepsister in a case reigniting calls for tougher internet controls.

Becky Watts was killed on February 19th 2014.

Nathan Matthews is believed to have watched a film entitled "Virgin teen gets raped in own house" before he throttled 5ft 2in Becky Watts in her bedroom and then dismembered her body.

Police found a 17 minute pornographic film, which showed a victim being beaten up on her bed, among 236 images and 21 movies found on his laptop.

Time after time after time we read of horrific acts, including murders, triggered by people watching violent videos. It's been proved over and over again that watching this stuff, whether on videos, the internet, the cinema or the TV, adversely influences many minds and often cause them to do terrible, terrible things to other people. 

We know that watching child sexual abuse on line - which apparently tens of thousands in the UK do every day - is the 'gateway' which then leads some people to commit horrific acts against children.

Yet the government, the internet service providers, the film and media industries refuse to address the issue, amidst cries of 'freedom of expression!' and 'censorship!'
