I agree Cristobell!Cristobell wrote:Doug D wrote:On the Pamalam/Anna Guedes site it says:
'adjourned to date to be fixed after GA's lawyers submitted more documents at the last minute'.
I would tend to go with this reason.

Indeed. Since the Court last sat, it has come to public attention that the McCanns suppressed the Smith family sighting for 5+ years, which was undoubtedly far more harmful to the 'search' than anything Goncalo Amaral said.
The latest post on the OFM facebook page makes me wonder if there is a legal battle going on at the moment between the McCanns and the press? A story or stories that are being held back and are the subject of litigation?
This is all sooooo frustrating, but Goncalo is absolutely right in bringing the new revelations to the attention of the Judge.

My theory is that the McCanns accused the press of harming the search in order to delay the trial in Lisbon.
Extra work for the Amaral's lawyer and they are manipulating the Judge.
Why reacting against the press exactly today?

Well it's true about mourning 3 days. So the reason for the postponement wasn't Amarals papers handed in at the last minute
And Eusebio died on Sunday.

I think that this is unfair to the majority of harmless belfry dwellers.
Could someone remind me how it's known that Truly Judy is the same person as scum cop.

Seek Truth, I have difficulties to believe that a country stops just because a national hero died. Eusébio was great but his death could not be the reason of stopping everything for 3 days, especially because Portugal's economy is so weak.

SORRY FOR MY IGNORANCE
I'm also sorry that a man is dead etc etc
I have to ask, is Portugal really having 3 days mourning for a footballer?
Even dictatorships mourning their "dear leader" normally only ask for a day or two. Was he either so awesome or is Portugal so desperate that it needs to declare 100 days of games to distract their people from the state of the economy?
Hopefully someone can help me here

A great football-player and a nice bloke by all accounts...
...but these pictures from the BBC almost suggest a state funeral:

Yet he was an African from Mozambique, and not Portugese at all - except by citizenship.
He gave Portugal a sense of national pride, helping the country to win major footballing trophies.
Which is more than you can say for England since 1966

Dr Martin Roberts: "The evidence is that these are the pjyamas Madeleine wore on holiday in Praia da Luz. They were photographed and the photo handed to a press agency, who released it on 8 May, as the search for Madeleine continued. The McCanns held up these same pyjamas at two press conferences on 5 & 7June 2007. How could Madeleine have been abducted?"
Amelie McCann (aged 2): "Maddie's jammies!".

But It's just 3 days.
If they had the power to postpone it because of 3 days, then they'd use that power to stop it all much earlier.

I'm confused. Are we now saying the trial was suspended for the mourning period and not because of last-minute evidence from Amaral??

Reading McCannfiles, I understand that the interruption is caused by the plaintiffs (McCanns?).The Judge is considering some legal arguments.

So, when is the libel trial going to continue?
Hi,
Am I right in thinking that the libel trial has been postponed? I read another post but Im confused by it all.
Anyone know when it resumes?
(Hoping the Mccanns get grilled and Amaral walks away with a very wide grin on his face! its about time justice was served. )

Perhaps the McCanns want to delay it as much s possible.
They fear the sentence and the media, I think.

Re: Libel Trial 7th Jan Postponed - confirmed
So which one is it?
@jontaito Toast 1m
Trial postponed for 3 days of national mourning for Eusebio. No intrigue, no spin. #mccann
Or
Jerry Lawton @JerryLawton 3m
#mccann libel trial adjourned to date to be fixed after Goncalo Amaral's lawyers submitted more documents at last minute
?
The doors were open, if the judge accepted the documents?

Whatever the reason for the postponement, the case is over bar the shouting.
We've waited this long - a few more days won't make much difference

Re: Libel Trial 7th Jan Postponed - confirmed
If a portguese member could check the courthouse is open and hearing other cases over the 3 days mourning we would know the trial has not been postponed for this reason.
I have tried to check but think it would be easier for a portuguese speaker......otherwise I suppose we will have to wait for when it is announced in the next session. Personally I don't see how absolutely everything would stop for the mourning.

What would be the legal position on Mr Amaral, or anyone else from the PJ using them in a case like this or releasing them?
Thanks.

Hi Void. I get very confused when a new thread is started on a topic already under discussion.

Three days of national mourning is exactly what it says on the tin.ChippyM wrote:If a portguese member could check the courthouse is open and hearing other cases over the 3 days mourning we would know the trial has not been postponed for this reason.

As would happen in the UK in similar circumstances, with the exception of the police/armed forces and other essential services, various government institutions will close their doors for the allotted period, as will banks and other organisations in the private sector. Although it's unlikely that air travel will be adversely affected, it's probable that public transport within Portugal may be reduced to what is, effectively, a 'Sunday' timetable.
It's to be hoped that Anne Gueddes will report as usual on the trial today or tomorrow and until such time as there's confirmation from the horse's mouth, so to speak, there seems little point in speculating on the veracity of conflicting accounts.

I hope Cristiano Ronaldo is showing restraint behind the wheel of his Ferrari or we might never get to the end of this.
