I was trying to avoid speculating by finding out something from an official courthouse website or something. Oh well, I'm sure we will here news soon!

Expect the trial to resume some time towards end of the month.
Don't take my words for it, just watch this space.

Interesting item on Sky about a group of Americans coaching people caught up in 9/11 to fraudulently claim compensation, some of the fraud relates to emergency workers.
One man claimed that he was so depressed that he could not go outdoors then posted photos of himself on FB, deep sea fishing and with a great suntan !
Not about any kind of libel, but I heard about alleged profound depression belied by photos of grins and it got my attention.

Prayer for the Day
Perhaps they have asked for time to Pray.
(Shamelessly borrowed from somewhere - Can't remember where, sorry, and then tidied up)
KATE AND GERRY'S PRAYER
Our Maddie, which art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy fund.
Thy money come.
White-wash be done
by the Met police,
As it is in the media
Give us this day our coffers filled with bread.
And do not blame us our trespasses,
As we Carter-Ruck them that dare to speak against us.
And lead us not into prison,
But deliver us from sniffers.
For ours is the government,
And May’s is Our power, and Cameron the Tory,
Cover up for ever and ever,
Our men.

Pamalam/Anne Guedes site has now been amended to just say:
'libel trial adjourned to date to be fixed’ & has lost the bit about GA filing documents
http://www.gerrymccannsblogs.co.uk/press/77sep13/AnneGuedes_12_09_2013.htm
so we’re back to square 1.

So that leaves us with all possible scenarios.
TM has done something which has caused a delay
GA has done something which has caused a delay
The Court itself has done something which has caused a delay.
Very frustrating not knowing which.

I think there is something else which should be pointed out - and that is, quite frankly, that Portugal has no idea how to run either criminal or civil cases.
The criminal trial of Goncalo Amaral at the behest of murderess-of-her-own-daughter Leonor Cipriano should never have been allowed to start, it took 7 days of hearings over 8 months to get to a verdict, and then the verdict was utterly perverse on the evidence and suggested political pressure to get the result wanted by the Portuguese powers-that-be.
The civil trial of an action for libel begun in late June or early July 2009 and is still not resolved over four-and-a-half years later in 2014. In addition, the draconian order banning Goncalo Amaral's book took place at an ex parte hearing (September 2009) which Goncalo Amaral knew nothing about beforehand and was first told about by a restauranteur who heard about it on the radio whilst Amaral was having a coffee out on the terrace [English Gag, Chapter 6].
In each case, the lawyers on each side have earned fat fees and the court costs and legal fees have reduced Goncalo Amaral to penury.
Portuguese justice?
Don't make me laugh.
It's utterly corrupt

They were photographed and the photo handed to a press agency, who released it on 8 May, as the search for Madeleine continued. The McCanns held up these same pyjamas at two press conferences on 5 & 7June 2007. How could Madeleine have been abducted?"

Re: Libel Trial 7th Jan Postponed - confirmed
Their court system does seem unusual to us, but you can be 100% sure that the McCann's legal team know it inside out, and also know how to work it.
It suits them, far more than Amaral, to tie these cases in long never-ending circles. The book remains off the shelves, his assets remain frozen, and the story about how they are 'continuing the fight against injustice' can be replayed as often as the media / public can take it...
As with their PR team so with their lawyers - they pay for the best and they get good results.

In addition they have the UK politicians, UK press and I suspect Scotland Yard behind them.Bishop Brennan wrote:Their court system does seem unusual to us, but you can be 100% sure that the McCann's legal team know it inside out, and also know how to work it.

I bet the Government in Portugal wish this would just go away now. It has been hugely damaging and embarrassing for them and it just keeps going on.

Surely you can't be suggesting that the head of the MPS/SY, BHH, would let a little thing like leading a balloon launch, with balloons costing £1 a go, with all procceds raised, going to the 'Find Madeleine Fund' set up by Kate and Gerry McCann, parents of a missing child his force has assigned 38 solely dedicated police officers to investigate, who are now directors of said 'fund', cloud his judgement, are you?
And just because he personally took part in a balloon launch and raised money for the very people that his force are now investigating the disappearance of their child, dosen't make him biased.

God forbid no.
Still might come in handy to be able to get their hands on the PJ files that were not released. I wonder if any of these might have mysteriously ended up on the desks of certain legal teams?

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, they will NEVER get their money grubbing paws on the files 'held' in the PJ's, LPS and GA's heads!
Well when i say NEVER, i mean that is if the McCanns don't employ, funded by their private Find Madeleine Fund, Dr Sharon Leal, a leading forensic psychologist and expert on lying, to 'interview' them.
She is a woman who can 'spot a liar' at 50 paces,....... 100%!
Just like the McCanns 'eagle eyed' friend, Jane Tanner, of whom BOTH the McCanns stated in writing 'she saw a man carrying a child, wearing only pyjamas of which the trousers were lightly coloured with a floral element, possibly with turn-ups. from a distance of 50 METRES'
100%!

Under similar circumstances in the UK??!! The UK would not have 3 days of mourning for a footballer!!!ultimaThule wrote:Three days of national mourning is exactly what it says on the tin.ChippyM wrote:If a portguese member could check the courthouse is open and hearing other cases over the 3 days mourning we would know the trial has not been postponed for this reason.
I have tried to check but think it would be easier for a portuguese speaker......otherwise I suppose we will have to wait for when it is announced in the next session. Personally I don't see how absolutely everything would stop for the mourning.
As would happen in the UK in similar circumstances, with the exception of the police/armed forces and other essential services, various government institutions will close their doors for the allotted period, as will banks and other organisations in the private sector. Although it's unlikely that air travel will be adversely affected, it's probable that public transport within Portugal may be reduced to what is, effectively, a 'Sunday' timetable.
It's to be hoped that Anne Gueddes will report as usual on the trial today or tomorrow and until such time as there's confirmation from the horse's mouth, so to speak, there seems little point in speculating on the veracity of conflicting accounts.
Also, just because it's 3 days of mourning in Portugal it does not mean the trial will re-start in 3 days time. The libel trial date was cancelled due to the mourning, and as far as anyone knows the re-scheduled date has not been published as yet. it may just roll on and start Friday, but that has not been officially confirmed anywhere. It's just speculation at the moment...

I don't like the sound of that. It would only be a problem if Madeleine were to receive an award. That is my first (hysterical) response, but logically, it is more likely that there is no proof that Madeleine is alive (or dead).
Of course it could be that Madeleine is a Ward of Court. I remember years ago, the Court of Protection acted on behalf of vulnerable people, I don't know if that is still the case, or if there is an appointed body to act on behalf of a ward of court.

Remember you have the best lawyers that money can buy operating on the McCann team. If there is any angle at all, they will be using it. Of that you can be certain.
