Court begins today in the trial of Faro Leonara Cipriano. The woman is accused for having allegedly made false statements when he complained of having been agradida by elements of the Criminal Investigation Department

The inspectors have been acquitted and the court then concluded that Leonor Cipriano had lied.

The inspectors had already been acquitted in 2009 of torturing Leonor Cipriano who was then accused of committing perjury and her trial has started today. She is the only one on trial.

So if Cipriano loses her case, is the conviction against Goncalo Amaral null and void? I've never understood the details of this particular case - or of Portuguese law generally - so I wonder if it is technically possible for Cipriano to lose here, but for Amaral to still be guilty of perjury in relation to her case? Or will Amaral be cleared of the perjury charge if Cipriano loses?

It is all getting very interesting.
IF . . .
the trial looks into what happened, which since it is Portugal and an inquisitorial system is certainly possible,
THEN. . .
as several have commented on another site - the trial could bring a whole lot to the surface, the most significant piece of information being that her lawyer claimed that M3 paid him to find dirt on Amaral to ruin his reputation. And who paid M3 to do this ?

The different versions that she presented about the alleged aggressions that she was a victim of at the headquarters of the Judiciary Police of Faro, took Leonor Cipriano yesterday to the Court of Faro. Joana's mother - who is doing a jail time of 16 years for the murder of her daughter - answers for false accusations.

Yesterday, Leonor, 42 years old, repeated what she had said in court, back in 2008, during the trial of the five inspectors of the Judiciary Police - including Gonçalo Amaral and Paulo Pereira Cristovão - for [alleged] aggressions during the questionings, at the time of Joana's death investigation, back in 2004.

Leonor repeated that, at the Judiciary Police of Faro headquarters, the officers beat her up "with punches and kicks", that they beat her "with a cardboard tube", that they placed "a blue plastic bag over her head" and that they hit her with a "phone book".

However, in the answers to the Public Ministry and to the Judge, Joana's mother [and convicted murderer] contradicted herself: she was unable to give the timing of the aggressions, she stated the tube was made of plastic and she affirmed that she had always been sitting down, when before she had stated that she had been forced to stay on her knees, on the top of ashtrays.

"This was an important moment in her life and it would be expected, even for the numerous times she has been asked the same questions, that she had kept it in her memory" argued the Public Ministry prosecutor, concluding that Leonor "insists on lying" and that she should be condemned to a jail sentence [for those lies].

The defence attorney* alleged that Leonor Cipriano "has difficulties in explaining herself", which, allied to a situation "in which the discernment wasn't the best", explains the contradictions.

The sentence was scheduled for the 14th of March.

In 2009, at the trial of the PJ officers, the court ruled as proven that there was an aggression however they were unable to identify the perpetrators.

So Marcos Correia used Leonor Cipriano in an attempt to discredit Goncalo Amaral and the Portuguese police, but took an extended break in Brazil failing to defend her when she was caught out.

No one, but it is possible that someone with an interest in the case may now obtain information from her, whether that be the authorities, those investigating Metodo3 or someone just researching the case. A professional person should be able to get to the bottom of this if they approach it in the correct manner.

What makes you think that the private investigators hindered the search?

Can we take a class action to the civil court against the Mccanns for influencing our opinions with misinformation that they hired a series of private detectives to search when the opposite is true, hence misleading the public?

Court defers judgment on Faro Leonor Cipriano for April 2

The Faro Court today postponed to April 2nd reading of sentence Leonor Cipriano, arrested for the murder of her daughter Joana, in the case which is charged with making false statements.

The child's mother, who disappeared in the village of Figueira, Portimão, the September 12, 2004, presented different versions of the alleged assault he suffered at the premises of the Judicial Police in Faro that year.

According to judicial sources, the court held that it was necessary to join this process documentary evidence of earlier proceedings in which Leonor Cipriano accused several agents to have beaten during interrogation.

Leonor Cipriano - who, like his brother, meets 16 years in prison for murder and concealment of a corpse - was not required to appear today before the Court of Faro to hear the reading of the judgment.

The contradictory statements were made during the trial of the inspectors who investigated the "Joana case" in 2009, which resulted in the conviction of two of the five defendants in the case.

In its judgment, the collective of judges considered "relevant and flagrant contradictions it incurred" Leonor Cipriano statements that produced the sessions of the trial, although he had the "opportunity to reveal the truth."

The court gave as proven aggression, although without having ascertained the identity of the attackers.

Gonçalo Amaral, former coordinator of the Criminal Investigation Department of the PJ of Portimão, was acquitted of the crime of failure to report abuse and sentenced to a year and a half for the crime of making false allegations, were suspended for the same period.

Inspector Antonio Nunes Cardoso was sentenced to two years and three months for forgery of document, sentence suspended for two years.

The former agents of PJ Paulo Pereira Cristovao Morgado Leonel Marques and Paulo Marques Bom, who were accused of having tortured Leonor Cipriano in interrogations conducted in Faro PJ, were acquitted.
