Detectives investigating the disappearance of Madeleine McCann will today begin interviewing 11 people considered witnesses and suspects in the seven-year mystery.
Police from the British-led investigation Operation Grange will be in attendance, but it is understood Portuguese officers from the Policia Judiciaria will lead the questioning.
Seven of the number are believed to be 'arguidos', which means they are treated as formal suspects but have not been charged with a crime.
In Portuguese law, police can declare a suspect to be an arguido in order to ensure they cannot travel abroad and can be used as a pre-cursor to charging a suspect with an offence.
However, the status also gives the suspect the right to refuse to answer questions and secure legal representation.

A further four people are being interviewed as witnesses to the disappearance of Madeleine who vanished from a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz in May 2007 while her parents Gerry and Kate were dining with friends nearby.
It is believed that one of the men police will question as a witness is Robert Murat who was declared an arguido by Portuguese police in the initial investigation.
He was later cleared and won substantial libel payouts from several media organisations.
Mr Murat says he is happy to help the investigation and has nothing to hide.
It is believed the interviews will be attended by Detective Chief Inspector Nicola Wall who will officially take over control of Operation Grange on 22 December after the departure of DCI Andy Redwood.

Earlier this year, Scotland Yard detectives returned to Portugal to help interview several people over the case.
It followed on from searches of three areas of land near the Ocean Club, the hotel where the McCanns were staying.
Portuguese and British investigators excavated an area of scrubland to the west of the resort at the start of June but found no evidence related to the case.
Portuguese police closed their investigation in 2008, but the Metropolitan Police launched its own inquiry three years later.

Wonder if SB will 'comment' on the T9 group's ' lack of concern, searching' activity, for Madeleine, in her 'interview' with PJ/Met?

eta: LOTS of 'mobile' phone 'use' by the 'group' wasn't there, around the time Madeleine 'disappeared'

I'm sure IF OG have scrutinised 'OTHER' mobile phone 'use' at that time, they will also have the 'record' of all the T9's 'use' of their mobile phones, at that 'tiime'.

Perhaps since the publiation of the book he was actually read the tweets and Facebook comments, and maybe, just maybe, he has gone back and looked at the statements again.
Perhaps he has read Kates first statement and her subsequent one about wide open and tightly closed curtains
Perhaps he has looked at the weather reports for that evening and noted the total absence of gusts of wind
Perhaps he was seen the westher reports for mid-day and realised that the Last Photo is a forgery.
Perhaps he has had a Road to Damascus moment . . .

They must all know. The truth has always been hidden in plain sight. The Emperor has no clothes. But now there is pretty much no support at all for the McScams, apart from the vultures and muck-feeders who have profited off the back of an innocent four year old child who will disappear into thin air if and when the Scam is revealed in its entirety.

Robert Murat and his wife WILL be among 11 interviewed as witnesses into disappearance of Madeleine McCann after Scotland Yard detectives arrive in Portugal

The pair have [sic] are due to arrive tomorrow morning at around 9.30am for questioning



DCI Andy Redwood marched into Faro Police Station at 9.30am this morning for three days of questioning with 11 witnesses. The Operation Grange chief was accompanied by two colleagues.


He declined to answer a battery of questions put to him by waiting reporters, as he walked the short distance from his hire car to the front door of the station. 

Seven of the men and women due to be questioned have been described as people of 'high interest' to the Madeleine McCann probe. The four others are said to be of lesser importance.


A long-haired Portuguese man covered his face as he entered the police station just before 10am this morning.



John Hill, manager of the Ocean Club holiday resort where Madeleine was staying when she vanished on May 3, 2007, is also expected to be interviewed -- along with laundryman Mario Fernando Madeira.

British detectives are expected to ask for permission to carry out new tests on DNA material held at a lab in Coimbra, northern Portugal, once she's in charge of the Operation Grange case. 

The 11 men and women due to be questioned this week could in theory be made arguidos at any time.

I agree that this is one of the 'connections' or 'strange coincidences' that needs clarifying/eliminating/looking deeper into, so suspect that JT will be the female UK connection to be questioned.

My gut feeling on that one though is that maybe they might have been sleeping together, thus meeting at his apartment and hence her DNA there. They might have had a disagreement and as such, JT decided to stitch him up by telling the PJ that it was him she saw carrying a child at 9.15.

One dart closer to the bullseye though hey!

I've always been very troubled by that.

It's not my opinion anyway, but when people used to claim that Smithman and Tannerman couldn't be one and the same because that would mean wandering around in the open with a child for 45 minutes, I always used to think of that garage.
