Madeleine McCann cops to quiz four suspects including Russian businessman

Jun 30, 2014 22:59 By David Collins

The four individuals have been given “arguido” status, making them formal suspects in Portuguese law, and Scotland Yard detectives will sit in on the interviews

Scotland Yard detectives will on Tuesday help question four new suspects in the Madeleine McCann investigation – one of them a Russian businessman.

Officers are due to begin a series of interviews on Tuesday as the four individuals are given “arguido” status, making them formal suspects in Portuguese law.

So that'll be Tuesday 8th July then.

And isn't the next day of the great 5-year libel case also Tuesday 8th July?

Their little games are so obvious

This isn't a whitewash. Remember Stephen Birch is convinced Madeleine is buried under Murat's drive.

They want to interview 8 suspects (Tapas 9 minus the 1 who has talked).

The McCanns in Portugal when the libel case was purposely delayed.

Digging to rule out, as much as to rule in, theories.

Cadaver smell means their timeline is shown to be a lie.

Smith sighting claim that Smithman definitely wasn't Robert Murat.

It's happening ...

So many damn questions and still zero answers....

I'm not sensing any new news here. As we have seen with AR's plod-like approach, he is pretending that the PJ investigation never happened and that the case files don't exist.  As such, he wants to interview Malinka and a bunch of other people just as the PJ did back in 2007.  Same people, similar questions.

To give the impression of progress and to fit the new narrative he needs new arguidos.  Last time it was Gerry Kate and Murat. Not acceptable this time.  A Russian and 3 Portuguese is much more acceptable in the new reality of Maddie's disappearance.

So I'm not seeing (at this stage) any new questions. Just the same long term plan that has been in play from day 1 of OG.

As ever I hope I am entirely wrong!

Bit like the McCanns did when they simply gave the press a wrong photo of a child who nobody in PDL would 'recognise' and would not be looking for.

Even though they had up to the minute photo's of a 'missing' child taken in the previous few days, and even one, taken of the child, just a few hours before the child 'disappeared' which people would have recognised'

Strange that Robert Murat, when questioned about what he did on 2 May, NEVER even mentioned that he had met with Malinka:

"The following day (02/05), he got up around 09:00 and left home by 10:00-10:30. He went to Lagos in the VW, to the home of Michaela, where he arrived at 10.40 am. He entered her house, where she was alone. He remained there for a short time talking. They left there and went in the VW to the centre of Lagos. He parked in one of the streets and went to the residence of FRANCISCO PAGARETE, who was not there, but his girlfriend Sonia was there. Next he went to meet his future real estate partners in their shop, called "Putos and Graúdos", located in Lagos, not knowing the street, whose line of business is the sale of clothing and is owned by JORGE S. He does not know the time. After the meeting in the store they went to a cafe but does not know the name, now four people - the respondent, Michaela, Jorge S. and his son Jason. Soon after went to another cafe located in Lagos Marina, less noisy, where they talked about business. He consumed a "galao" drink, but does not know if the others did. The bill was paid by MICHAELA in the first cafe he thinks, and he has no idea who paid in the second. In that cafe they spent some time until 13:50-14:00.
After the Marina they walked back to the VW and then had lunch in the restaurant "Bem Bom" in Lagos, this time only with Michaela, where he arrived a little after 14:00. He ate roast meat. Lunch ended by 15:15-15:20, they went to the school of Cxxxxxxx (daughter of Michaela, who is 8 years of age) in order to collect her, they arrived five minutes later. They went
again to the home of PAGARETE, who this time was at home. They were talking next to the VW, to Michaela about the divorce and the respondent about buildings [properties]. He does not remember the time that he left from there. He returned to MICHAELA's house in Lagos, with her and her daughter. He entered the apartment. He does not know what they did or talked about. He remained in the apartment, with the mother and daughter for a long time, LUIS having arrived by 21:00 or shortly after, when they were having dinner of pork or turkey. He left Michaela's home about 22:30-23:00, got the VW and went to his house in Luz, parking the vehicle in front of house. He spoke with his mother who was awake. He is certain that he remained at home until the next morning. Turned on the computer and played cards, going to sleep at 01:00-01:30".

A whitewash as predicted here by the more cynical (and I'm not blind to the possibility) is only possible if all employees involved at the PJ roll over and not say a word.

The Met can get away with a whitewash/cover up within their own organisation in the UK, but not when it involves a foreign police force IMO.

The text below is, once again, taken from the PJ files. Notice that on 15 May 2007 the Portuguese police thought that they had it all wrapped up, and "previously authorised phone taps must be cancelled immediately, they being of no further interest to the case; [At this date that can only mean the McCanns"

Quote:

Letter to Amaral regarding investigation thus far on Robert Murat 2007.05.15
This is a report from Inspector Luis Pereira of the National Directorate of the PJ in Lisbon to Dr G.Amaral.

Note the DATE, and without putting forth all the flowery politic-speak and legalese:

--- the National Directorate deems that having now analysed the content of the work done for the case, and other material outside the file, certain previously authorised phone taps must be cancelled immediately, they being of no further interest to the case; [At this date that can only mean the McCanns]

--- but in their place, the National Directorate VENTURES TO SUGGEST seeking competent court authorisation for additional new phone surveillance over R.Murat and M.Walczuch [two of the four pages being given over to fully detailed specifics], and

--- a for a domestic search warrant for S.Malinka's residence.

The "report" concludes, in customary well-mannered language, that it is submitted [merely] for the consideration of the recipient to determine the most appropriate course of action.
Signed: Lisbon, 15 May 2007, Inspector Luis Pereira

You've not read my posts up the thread properly, sallypelt.

I have been at great pains for years to explain to forum members how Robert Murat, in his first police interview on 15 May, comprehensively lied to police about his movements on 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th May.

You've quoted only from his first statement, full of deliberate lies.

Once again for the record, he completely changed his first statement on 10 and 11 July after the Portuguese police cornered him with his mobile 'phone pings on local masts. He claimed he had been 'too tired to tell the truth' at his first interview.

So, one more time, here are his 17 lies, with items 2 & 3 higlighted, as before:

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

QUOTE FROM MURAT ARTICLE:

You may by now have lost count of the number of changes in Robert Murat’s story about what he was doing between 1 and 4 May, so here’s a convenient summary of his new account of events, and how these contradicted his earlier account of events:

1.     Remembers that on 1 May he tried to contact Jorge da Silva.

2.     Remembers that on 2 May he didn’t leave home at 10.30am but instead had a meeting with Sergei Malinka at the Batista Supermarket.

3.     He had in fact taken Michaela and Malinka back to his mother’s house in Praia da Luz for a further discussion, something he’d omitted to tell the police in the first interview.

4.     He now remembered visiting his bank and paying in 287.51 euros.

5.     He now remembered he’d called at the home of Francisco Pagarete, his lawyer, that morning.

6.     He now remembers that he had met Francisco Pagarete that afternoon.

7.     He now remembers that another of Jorge’s sons was present at their meeting in the café in the afternoon.

8.     The meeting in the café went on much longer than he had said previously.

9.     He thinks that Michaela Walczuk’s husband Luis Antonio may not have been present at Michaela’s house that evening, contrary to what he had previously said.

10.             On 3 May, he had not woken at 9.00am as previously stated, but at 8.00am.

11.             He had not driven to Michaela’s house that morning after 10.00am as previously stated; instead he had left home at 8.45am for a 9.30am meeting with the owner of the business tourist complex called ‘Gold Bunker’ in the Espiche district and her father-in-law.

12.             He now remembered that he and Michaela had visited two apartments for about 30 minutes, probably on the afternoon of 3 May.

13.             He and Michaela had lunch with the owner of the ‘Gold Bunker’ complex and her father-in-law, a fact he had not disclosed to police before.

14.             Michaela’s daughter C______ was not with them that day, contrary to his previous story.

15.             They went to the Palmares Golf Club in the afternoon, another fact Murat had failed to disclose.

16.             He now admitted to making two telephone calls, to Sergei Malinka and Michaela, at 11.39pm and 11.40pm that night.

17.             He previously said he had woken at 9.00am on Friday 4 May. He now admitted he had telephoned Michaela at 8.27am and must have got up earlier.

It is curious and no doubt relevant in some way that Malinka and Murat DID meet up on 2 May, but neither told the police that.

Murat certainly lied about this. The more I think about it, the more I consider that Malinka probably also lied, in saying the meeting was on 30 April, rather than his having made a simple mistake.

It might well suggest that both men were up to no good

Tony, I have no doubt, whatsoever, that Murat met with Malinka on 2 May, so why did Murat lie about it, if he/they had nothing to hide? It stinks.
It's late,  and my brain is like a scrambled egg. I must have known that Robert Murat had a brother, but for some reason, it went right out the window. All these lies and discrepancies. What a tangled mess. No wonder this case is so "complicated".

Goncalo Amaral and the police were grossly misled by two things:

1. Jane Tanner, two days before, being adamant that the man she'd allegedly seen 10 days earlier near the McCanns' apartment was Robert Murat. She only did this after talking to Det Chief Supt Bob Small of Leicestershire Police and two men from Control Risks Group, immediately before a formal identity parade

and

2. Profilers from CEOP, maybe MI5, Special Branch and Control Risks Group as well, telling the PJ that Murat fitted the likely profile of the paedophile abductor '90%' (see chapter in Goncalo Amaral's book).

There is evidence therefore that the arrest of Murat was deliberately planned by agents of the British government.

They even deceived Goncalo Amaral

But the Portuguese police involved here are not the PJ that reopened the case. This is a separate team that were assigned to assist SY with their ILRs and on site activities.  Totally separate.

I agree that the only hope lies with the other PJ team about whom we have heard absolutely nothing. Which suggests either that they are very discrete or that they are not actually doing anything and are just watching SY from a distance.

No, there is another scenario, one that I accept (provisionally).

Namely:

That the PJ have been reluctantly forced by political and/or media pressure to 'do something'.

They have therefore done 2 things:

A. Technically re-opened their investigation, without actually following up any lines of enquiry or doing any real work, and

B. Acceding to all the bizarre and scarcely credible requests of Redwood, on the strict condition that Redwood pays all the bills for any time spent by PJ officers, the costs of hiring helicopters and blokes with pickaxes etc.

Thus, on that view, the PJ is NOT bent, but has been persuaded to allow a bent police force (SY) to do what it thinks fit in their country.

Remember the words of a Portuguese TV commentator a few weeks back:

"A British farce put on just for the TV cameras"

Warwickshire Police have been drafted in to help the investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCannMadeleine McCann disappeared on the evening of Thursday, 3 May 2007 in the resort of Praia da Luz in the Algarve, Portugal, just days short of her fourth birthday. The event has since generated international media attention with controversy surrounding the Portuguese-led police investigation, after it emerged that the brother of the prime suspect lives in Warwick.

A statement released by the force yesterday confirmed detectives had helped officers from Leicestershire with "progressing inquiries related to the disappearance of Madeleine McCann in Portugal". But there were no active inquiries or scenes of activity in Warwickshire in relation to the matter, it added.

Robert Murat, (left) from Norfolk, was officially named as a suspect by Portuguese police yesterday. It later emerged that his brother Richard lives in Warwick.

In a written statement, Warwickshire Police said they were "assisting Leicestershire Constabulary with an investigation".

Mr Murat's brother, married father-of-two Richard Murat, was not at his Warwick home yesterday afternoon to comment.

But neighbours of the supermarket worker said they were shocked at his brother's link to the inquiries in Portugal.

Neighbour and colleague Shanti Kalia "I do know them, they are a very nice family. He always talks about his mum and always goes to visit her."

Kam Sandhu, 33, said: "We were talking about the girl going missing and he said his mum lived close by. I am shocked by this."

Dr Martin Roberts: "The evidence is that these are the pjyamas Madeleine wore on holiday in Praia da Luz. They were photographed and the photo handed to a press agency, who released it on 8 May, as the search for Madeleine continued. The McCanns held up these same pyjamas at two press conferences on 5 & 7June 2007. How could Madeleine have been abducted?"

Amelie McCann (aged 2): "Maddie's jammies!".

Breaking News on Sky News - SY back in PDL suspects to be interviewed - Page 4 Empty Re: Breaking News on Sky News - SY back in PDL suspects to be interviewed

Post by Cristobell 01.07.14 1:23

I see no cause for alarm.  The police cannot pin this on anyone other than the actual perpetrators - it simply isn't possible.  The investigation must end in a prosecution and the police must have enough evidence for the prosecution to go ahead.  They can't just make the evidence up, the defendant(s) will fight their case vigorously and their lawyers will use everything that is known about the case, including the alerts of the blood and cadaver dogs in Apartment 5A.

Will SY and the PJ file it away, listed 'not enough evidence to prosecute', leaving the ending inconclusive.  What would be the point of that?  The McCanns would be no better off, and in fact their situation has worsened as more and more facts about the case have emerged and the lead detective has suggested death in the apartment.  If a VIP is being protected, again, filing the case away after all the furore, won't protect them forever, and in fact the tenacious followers of this case will only be spurred on to dig deeper.  If Operation Grange does not reach a conclusion, then this case will be in exactly the same position as it was before the Review/Investigation began and Kate and Gerry will be launching new campaigns and making the same unreasonable demands that probably led to the Review in the first place.

Apart from giving us an unsatisfactory ending to the millions spent, Operation Grange and indeed the PJ, will appear incompetent, so too, those who wrote the cheques.  I don't think that is the intention of either police force, it cannot sit well with the consciences of the officers involved to have obvious crimes flaunted in front of them, and not having the power to do anything about it, particularly when said people are so self righteous and condescending.  I'm pretty certain we are not the only ones the McCanns rub up the wrong way.

The McCanns are on the ropes.  Whoever SY are interviewing in PDL, they are not the 'abductors' - if they were then SY may as well have added put the kettle on and pack a suitcase to their announcement.  There are however, many witnesses to the very strange behaviour of you know and their pals and volunteer childminders, in the days and weeks that followed Madeleine's disappearance, still living and working in the area.

"so, your three mobiles pinged in PDL, the night the child went 'missing'"

"Yeah, so? We were all ordering different pizzas"

"ok"

"But we did see something that might be of interest to you"

"we saw a man, who we now know to be the father of the missing child coming out of 5A with quite a large sports bag. He handed it to a big bloke, with a empty baby buggy, and they put the sports bag in the baby buggy and put the cover over it. One man went towards the ocean club and the big bloke with the buggy went up the hill. Then we went and collected our pizzas. Hope we've been helpful to your investigation"

"did you see any shutters raised or windows open?"

"no. not when we were walking passed."

"Andy?"

"nope, no further questions"

"Next"

"so, your five mobiles pinged in PDL, the night the child went missing"

"Yeah, so? We were phoning our mates in the bars, in PDL, chatting about football and ordering drinks, before we got there and Jose rang his mum, because she wasn't too well"

"ok"

"oh, we did see and overhear three other geezers, talking about er, ordering something"

"pizzas"?

"Yeah, it was actually, how did you know that?"

"oh, just a hunch and a coppers nose"

etc, ETC.

British police investigating the disappearance of Madeleine McCann have returned to Portugal to question a number of suspects.  Which we did not know

They will be speaking to a key witness, as well as several individuals suspected of carrying out burglaries, as part of the second phase of the Scotland Yard probe on the ground in The Algarve.
A key WITNESS -  to what precisely ?  JT NOT leaving the table, GM being away for a long time.  Madeleine not being present at the last High Tea  . . .  ?  Witness to WHAT ?
And the burglars, . .  Whilst you were out burgling, did you see anyone,   NO.  Thank you so much.

The same team of British police who were involved in the digging of several sites outside the resort of Praia da Luz earlier in June arrived back in Portugal on Monday. Which we did not know

Sky's Crime Correspondent Martin Brunt said: "They will be joining their Portuguese colleagues and sitting in on a series of interviews with, I'm told, first a key witness, and then a number of people who are being described as aguidos (suspects).
"We think that this includes the three or more former workers from the Ocean Club in Praia da Luz where Madeleine vanished who are suspected of carrying out a series of burglaries in the months leading up to Madeleine's disappearance.
"Scotland Yard have made it clear for a while, if not publicly, that they are interested in talking to these suspects.

"Now it may be just a question of eliminating them, but they have certainly been flagged up during the Scotland Yard review of the original police investigation by the Portuguese, people of interest who need to be interviewed, who may become, in a sense, more official suspects, but certainly people that Scotland Yard believe could have vital information about Madeleine's disappearance."
What he did NOT say is that they may have done it.  He speaks of eliminating them, and that they may have vital information . .   Like seeing what any of the Tapas group were actually DOING . . .Like being able to testify, on oath, signed, sealed and delivered that Madeleine was NOT present in the Tapas bar at 5.30 on 3/5/7.  Like being able to say that they were told, instructed, paid, coerced and threatened by person or persons unknown to keep silent for the past 7 years . . .
The possibilities are endless, once one starts "purporting theories".

Do the words 'immunity from prosecution' come to your mind too, PeterM?  These three words are a far more powerful mantra than the two Kate is fond of using and, regardless of the outcome of any trial, can be music to the ears of those who stand to lose everything if charged with particularly heinous crimes.

Unless Amelie has commandeered Madeleine's stethoscope, it occurs to me that if the McCanns didn't employ a minion media monitor to iron read the morning newspapers for them, one or more of the wee one's colleagues would have been frequently called to the Towers to avert cardiac arrest over the course of the past couple of months and, after the coverage of that disastrous appearance in Lisbon, it seems that even the grossly overpaid Clazza can't spin rustle up good news for his clients.

It seems to be endless silent night for TM and I suspect that one of their judgement days in this world will be arrivething sooner rather than later as it's simply a question of which will come first, the judgement of Lisbon or the potential judgement of their peers, Iats, .

From UK Justice forum.
" have a horrible, horrible feeling that Stephen Birch is going to be proven right in his excavation analysis, and that is why the McCanns have flown to Portugal."
