Derek Jameson, as a tabloid editor, had been unwisely advised to sue the BBC over a satirical sketch. Carter-Ruck said Jameson would get £25,000-£50,000. David Eady QC advised Carter-Ruck in writing that Jameson accept the £10 that the BBC had offered in settlement plus his costs. Carter-Ruck concealed this opinion from Jameson. Jameson lost the case and was sent a bill by Carter Ruck for £41,342.50. When he learned by chance of the QC's pessimistic advice, Carter-Ruck told him a string of lies.

Note to Kevin. In case you have not worked it out . . . This refers to Carter-Ruck the infamous person, now mercifully long since dead, and not to Carter-Ruck the infamous law firm, which sadly is still very much alive.

If they're waiting for the outcome of a court case then they're a bit premature, unless they know something that I don't.

Thinking about it, the sixteen page supplement clearly isn't about dead paedos otherwise they'd have published it (because you can't libel the dead)

Have they really PM, I thought it was a joke based on the 'mileage' the Express makes out of this case, hence the cartoon too.

So did I.

Why do you think Private Eye have anything else prepared to publish about the case, Peter Mac? Do you know somebody who works there?

I'd love to think that they did, but the cartoon in itself doesn't suggest that at all.

Surely they won't be able to publish their supplement until after any court case? That could be many, many months away, given Redwood and Cos' apparent snails-rate of progress?

Quite. But you can rest assured that all over the printo-sphere are supplements, books, articles, and the rest ready for a single keystroke "send" when the final decision is made.
They will have had a lot of stuff sent to them, and they are no lovers of Carter-Ruck
