'FEARSOME' - and 24 other quotes about Carter-Ruck. It's enough to make you want to give up
Clicking on Carter-Ruck's website (as you do) [www.carter-ruck.com], in the top right is a box in which, every 8 seconds, a quote about Carter-Ruck appears.
It reminds one a bit of those review quotes that are meant to draw in the crowds to a London theatre.
This sort of thing:
'Stunning...fantastic entertainment '
'Best laugh I've had for ages'
'Sensational - don't miss it' etc.
Anything London theatres can do, Carter-Ruck can do better, it seems.
To save you spending nearly 4 minutes on Carter-Ruck's website, here are the 25 quotes they want the world to see:

Not very good references for a professional organisation are they? Maybe Carter Ruck don't realise that these cheap comments are lurking around their website.

Just looked at the carter-Ruck website - they are recruiting an unspecified numbers of qualified staff with 1-4 years post qualification experience. While other law firms freeze recruitment or let staff go in this recession, they expand. Interesting.
See section Media Law: Funding.
They offer to some clients CFA (conditional fee agreements) and After the Event Insurance. Also they may agree to differential (lower than standard rate) fees. Would be interesting to know what deal the McCanns have. In the book Kate said they worked quietly behind the scenes, often for nothing. The website does not mwntion 'nothing' for good or less than good causes.

I know of another lawyer who tries to blow his own trumpet on his own website by using daft references and testimonials from a handful of clients who he is well in with

What happened next?
David grew up.
He became King of Israel.
He saw and fancied Bathsheba.
He got Bathsheba pregnant.
He sent Bathsheba's husband (Uriah the Hittite) into battle, putting him in the front line so he got killed (which he did).
Bathsheba had a child, but the child died a week later.
This is all written up in 2 Samuel Chapters 11 & 12, the dog-eared page of the Bible Dr Kate McCann was reading.
David & Bathsheba tried for another child.
She fell pregnant a second time, and give birth to...
...King Solomon.

OT Tony
I've always been "cross" with David for his adultery and planned killing of Batsheba's husband.
I've always been "enchanted" by Solomon's wisdom ...
Not sure what these stories tell us.

Châtelaine wrote:OT Tony

It was indeed a heinous crime. The prophet Nathan gave David a severe telling-off. David realised the seriousness of his crime, repented, and was forgiven.
I've always been "enchanted" by Solomon's wisdom...
Solomon was a wise king and richly blessed. Israel grew amazingly in wealth and power under his rule. But power went to his head, and he fell from grace. His sons fell out, as a result of which Israel became divided: 10 tribes headed north under Jeroboam; the other two tribes (Judah and Benjamin) remained around Jerusalem and became known as 'Judah' = Judaea.
Not sure what these stories tell us.
It's history, which we can all learn from

Solomon exposes: 'The Truth of the Lie'
Yes, he put forward the 'solution' of chopping the baby in half, in order to sort out which of the two mothers was lying about whose baby was dead.PeterMac wrote:Is this the same one who advocated chopping a baby in half?Tony Bennett wrote:

The mother whose child was dead said: 'OK, cut it in half'.
The mother whose child it was begged: 'Let it live'.
And so it came to pass that King Solomon exposed The Truth of the Lie (1 Kings 3 vv 16-28).
This chapter concludes:
"And all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had judged; and they feared the king: for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him, to do judgment".
Can't say that about most of today's judges.
P.S. Both of the women in the above account were 'harlots'.
P.P.S. Another OT account with a very modern 'feel' to it is the account [Genesis Chapter 39] of how the wife of Potiphar, one of the then Pharaoh's senior officers, cried rape after she attempted to seduce the handsome Jewish servant, Joseph, who said 'No'. Joseph, without having a fair trial, let alone Legal Aid, was thrown into jail with an indeterminate sentence (commuted in the end to two years after he successfully interpreted a dream). But all ended happily ever after when a later Pharaoh, unable to find a single Egyptian who could perform the role, promoted him to the post of Prime Minister of Egypt: "And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, See I have set thee over all the land of Egypt" [Genesis 41 v. 41]

Libel can and will be successfully prosecuted loudly
when produced by one or a few. But when the
many, or the masses produce the same cry of
libel, nothing, not a sound, just quite.

Alan Sugar in the House of Lords debate on the defamation bill which could reduce 'libal tourism'.
Previously, reported on Monday 26 March 2012
Alan Sugar in the House of Lords debate on the defamation bill which could reduce 'libal tourism'.
Sugar, himself a litigious little bantam, was not pleased. "I have concerns that the changes being made are too lenient, to the advantage of the printed media," he snarled.
"The one thing alone that is of prime importance to them," he continued, " is money and how much their pockets will be affected." He spoke wistfully that "the days of the Elton John million-pound awards have long gone" and he was underwhelmed that libel awards are now worth about the same as awards for physical damage such as a broken leg or the loss of sight.
Having declared that he himself has sued papers, Sugarpuff said: "Most people, particularly some minor celebrities or, more to the point, politicians, cannot afford to fund a fully fledged defamation case... Only the rich, such as I, can afford to take on the media."
Sugar spoke warmly of no-win-no-fee rules under which the likes of Schillings and Carter-Fuck (sic) extract vast sums for libel work. "Why would a lawyer, with all due respect to lawyers, take on a case... then the ultimate goal for the claimant may be in the region of £150,000?" A mere 150 grand? Pah!
Why should lawyers bother with such piffling settlements? To serve the truth? A laughable notion, plainly.
(snipped)
The bill received a generally fair wind from their lordships. In the past it has been criticized by former deputy PM Lord Prescott (he of the Tracey Temple affair) and former Labour MP Lord Martin (who so hated the press that he hired Carter-Fuck (sic) to do his PR when he was Speaker). On the day of the debate, the only peer to give Sugar strong support was Labour Lord Triesman, the disgraced former Football Association boss.
Spotless saints, every one of’em!

Dear Mr. Bennett
My dad, who is a very wise old man, and very intelligent, always said "never let men with black suits and small suitcases make you blind to reality". Its easy both to be taken in when they are on you side, as well as getting afraid when they are not on your side. In both case, it well let one makeing bad decisions, becoz the desicions will be an outcome of fear .
Mr.Bennett. What you are fighting against is men in black suits with small suitcases. And they are not on your side. But you are not blind to reality, and your decisions are not made out of fear.
My dad lost a high profile job. He lost many friends. But he did what he had to do. As to this day he think of it as one of the hardest part of his life. But as he says, he did what was nessesary to do. And couldnt and wouldtn do it any different. It was not about him, but something bigger than him, that he could not witness and just put the blind eye to. For that, im very proud of my dad. He got guts.
Just like you Mr. Bennett. And for that you have my deepest respect.
