Thanks Chatelaine - wasn't aware but that wouldn't be surprising. Getting the Hs to PDL was a long process which began way before the McCs had even decided to visit and he may well have visited his potential new parish as part of that process. I believe the Hs were undoubtedly useful friends for the McCs but simply don't believe HH was part of a pre planned conspiracy but understand others have a different view on that, as they're perfectly entitled to do.

GLENBURNIE - In the face of tragedy, Susan Hubbard hopes that, one day, she will hold a celebration.
Instead, the Glenburnie resident will travel to Portugal next month to hold a vigil for Madeleine McCann, who was the focus of international headlines after she was abducted in Praia da Luz, Portugal, on May 3, 2007.
Hubbard, together with her husband, Haynes, and three children, arrived in the small coastal village on May 6 amid chaos in search of the three-year-old child. Haynes, an Anglican priest, had taken a position in a local church.
Hubbard said her concern for the McCann family, who were vacationing in the area when Madeleine was taken from her room while she slept, was immediate.
“When you have a tragedy like that, the whole community is reeling,” she said. “People have no idea when a tragedy happens how far it ripples.”
The Hubbards soon became acquainted to the Gerry and Kate McCann, parents of the missing girl, through church services. The two families are now considered close friends.
“The only thing we could do is be there and pray in hope that she is alive,” said Haynes Hubbard. “Even in the middle of confusion, it needed to be said that this little girl needed to be prayed for and not be forgotten until she comes home.”
The McCann family, who were from England, were bombarded by media attention and, eventually, allegations from some in Portugal that they had been responsible for abducting their own daughter.
When the McCanns would return to Portugal, they would stay with the Hubbards in Praia da Luz.
“(The family) needed a place where they could hide and allow their children to be children,” Susan Hubbard said.
Since, Hubbard said she and her husband have witnessed the immense struggle endured Madeleine’s parents — largely through court battles against defamation and the fight to keep the case open with Portuguese authorities.
“There’s been a lot of injustices along the way,” Hubbard said.
When the Hubbards decided to leave Portugal last year, she said it was made difficult by the fact that Madeleine had not yet been found.
Since her disappearance, Hubbard has held a service in remembrance of Madeleine in Praia da Luz.
However, she said there has been opposition from some in the community who no longer wish to publicly recognize the disappearance.
“The people that rely on (tourism) need people to move on,” she said. “There were a lot of people that want this to go away.”
Hubbard will return to Portugal next month to hold a vigil on the anniversary of the girl's disappearance.
“Until somebody can show she is not alive we will keep looking,” Haynes Hubbard said.
His wife agreed. She said it is Madeleine’s mother, Kate, who continues to hold out hope for her daughter’s return.
“I always say (to Kate) that one of these years we’re going to have a celebration,” she said.

Wanting a place to hide from the public and wanting to engage public in their search do no go hand in hand.
They should be out there physically talking and engaging the public in they truly want to find Maddie, and not hiding in the Priest's premises while expecting other people to search.

IIRC, Amaral also said it was the Mccanns who asked for the process to be shelved.

Gerry complained they got too much coverage that they did not seek.
He did not like the coverage during the tenure when they were suspects but when the heat is not on them, it appears they are well capable of courting coverage for pseudo sightings and quarterly half-yearly or annual anniversary to remind people they are still 'looking'. Freaking unbelievable!

I am still wondering why he joined the Hacked Off campaign, keeping things quiet now when he sooooo wanted the Press to help shout to the World that his beautiful little girl had gone missing.

if it weren't for the press and media coverage they would not have had the money flowing into their Fund. Job done, no longer needed, maybe court proceedings will be reported on soon. Join Hacked Off to keep the press quiet. Luvly jubbly?????

Father Pacheco, who once gave the church keys to the McCanns, affixed posters at the door with the words “no cameras allowed”

Father Pacheco, who is responsible for the little church of Praia da Luz, refused for the filming of the new McCann documentary to be carried out inside the church, and even journalists were invited not to enter the place. Posters in Portuguese and in English were even placed at the entrance, forbidding the access of cameras.

According to a source that is close to the priest, Father Pacheco, who was vastly criticised in 2007 for giving the church key to the McCanns, this time didn’t want the “circus” that was created by the presence of Maddie’s father to affect the religious ceremonies of Palm Sunday, and even feared the reaction of the people.

Warned about the priest’s refusal, Gerry McCann ended up going to the church alone, yesterday morning. Madeleine’s father entered the church at 8 a.m., an hour earlier than scheduled.

Clarence Mitchell had informed the journalists that Maddie’s father would go to church at around 9 a.m., and asked journalists not to be on location: neither Gerry respected his spokesman’s schedule nor journalists failed to be on location.

Contrary to what happened during the months that followed Madeleine’s disappearance, when the McCanns were warmly welcome in the church by the public, this time Gerry McCann was ignored by the vast majority of residents, with only a few comments of revolt being heard upon exit from the religious service.

Little girl threw a “tantrum” during filming

The false ‘Maddie’ from the new McCann documentary didn’t make the production’s work easy, and on Saturday night refused to cooperate in the filming despite the insistence of her mother and of the other actors.

The little four-year-old girl, who is the daughter of Kate and Gerry McCann’s friends, ended the night of Saturday crying and fighting in her mother’s arms.

Wearing socks and a pyjama that was identical to the one that Madeleine allegedly wore on the night of the disappearance, the little girl, who somewhat resembles the true Maddie, was always in the company of her mother and of the wife of the Anglican priest of Praia da Luz, but not this made it possible for the filming to be concluded, and everything was postponed to yesterday evening, away from the disapproving looks from members of the public who were present on location.

It was at around 11.45 p.m. on Saturday evening that Kate and Gerry McCann’s spokesman ended up apologising to the journalists, saying that it would be impossible to photograph or film the child that evening.

“Can you see that… It’s so cold and the child is standing there wearing socks”, a member of the public protested incredulously, adding that “it had to be English people to do something like that.”

It was with insults and whistles that the local population greeted the only truck that circulates in the area of Praia da Luz with an outdoor where the photograph of Madeleine McCann can be seen with the key words of the little campaign that the couple has launched: “Don’t give up on me!”

The driver himself, with a thick Northern accent, explained to 24horas that he has been circulating in the area “because work has to be done”, but that when he needs to park, he “feels safer near the journalists and the GNR that is present on location”.

The truck, which was always present near the filming location, is one of the few pieces of the campaign that can still be found in Praia da Luz, given the fact that almost all the posters have been ripped off and even the outdoor that is located at the village’s entrance is only partially visible after unknown persons covered it with white paint.

“We have already apologised over the disturbance that we have caused to the people of Praia da Luz but you must understand that Maddie’s parents see this documentary as necessary to continue the investigations into their daughter’s whereabouts”, the McCanns’ spokesman said, stressing once more that “there is no evidence that Maddie is dead”, despite recognising that “according to logics” many people may think the contrary

The actress that came to Portugal to play the role of Kate McCann is Lisa Donovan, an American, aged 40, who was chosen due to her vague physical resemblance with Madeleine’s mother.

Chosen during a casting in England, Lisa didn’t even have the opportunity to talk to or to meet Kate to prepare her role, but said that she is very nervous and emotional about entering the bedroom where Maddie was supposedly abducted from. ‘Supposedly’ because, as the actress confesses, it’s not her “who can say” what actually happened to the little girl.

During her only contact with the media, always under Clarence Mitchell’s vigilant look, the actress, who was born in Philadelphia, in the United States, came to Portugal for the first time but confessed that she was delighted about our country and the marvellous climate that she encountered in Praia da Luz.

Just like had already been the case with the other actors – a total of 15 – the McCanns’ spokesman, Clarence Mitchell, followed attentively everything that Lisa told the journalists. All the actors, who are paid by Mentorn Media, were forced to sign a confidentiality contract that prevents them, even after the filming is concluded, from revealing what happened away from the eyes of the media professionals.

Without revealing what steps she walked during the reconstitution, the American actress simply followed instructions from Merntorn Media’s production team and Gerry McCann’s advices, after visiting several times all the locations that the couple said it had frequented during their stay in Praia da Luz. “I just learned about the area, the locations and what I had to do”, Lisa said, shrugging her shoulders at any question that might reveal the contents of the script that was used for the filming.

Negotiations to be broadcast by SIC

The two private investigators who followed all of the filming will remain in Portugal and expect the broadcasting of the documentary, which included “new leads” that were obtained through witness statements that were collected in Praia da Luz, to help to find Madeleine’s trail.

According to Clarence Mitchell, “leads that were discarded by the Polícia Judiciária” are still being followed by the investigators.

The communication and public relations expert confirmed that the actors and everything that relates to the filming was being paid by Mentorn Media, the company that is producing the documentary that Channel Four will broadcast in England on the 7th of May.

“In Portugal, the documentary may equally be broadcast on the 7th of May, a few hours after Channel Four does it”, Clarence said, adding that “everything depends on the final agreement with SIC”.

There are more copies on the internet. It was made in 2009 - a sort of propaganda film - curiously as early as December 2007 they were negotiating a film contract for several millions I believe. Possibly that didn't come off.

Kate wasn't in PdL as far as I know to make the documentary, I take it that her shots were taken in the UK.
If I want a good laugh I can always run the clip where Gerry does his doctoring. Most peculiar.

I don't think I could even contemplate a full length movie about the abduction of my daughter (by a paedophile) unless I knew she was dead.Had a film been made it could hardly have increased her chances of survival.

In terms of helping to 'find' their daughter, it is utterly useless.But it was not really made for that purpose, was it.It is a rather foolish attempt to portray these parents as deserving of unquestioning support.You see them enjoying family life.You see them relating to each other and with their other children.You can even see Gerry hard at work, helping to save lives.It is all rather self-serving.And of course, it is all rather too late.

Most of the public know, instinctively, that they have something to hide.They are concealing something.Most of the public also know, that the prime purpose of parenthood, is to keep your family safe, secure and to nurture them.

They know they failed that test.And at the moment, only they know why they need to avoid the real events about their daughter's disappearance from becoming public.

Lots of hilarious things in it, particularly the Dynamic Duo Cowley and Edgar's reconstruction where Gerry moved in to shut Jane up when she was in danger of saying too much.

Imo it shows a family patently not interacting very well. A little performance of twirling Amelie round - the locking of the door of their own 'back garden' - Gerry coming in looking sporty with a backpack.
Gerry doing his doctoring - the poor patient lying there like a beached whale and Gerry telling us that there's no fluid on the lungs. How he could hear that from the front I don't know. I certainly hope he wasn't looking for the heart because he was on the wrong side for that. Pushing his own trolley and all.
Then the draught 'whoosh! experience of Kate. I usually have to lie down in a darkened room with a wet towel on my throbbing forehead after only half the film..... winkwink

The domestic bliss they are trying to portray is so enginered, I wonder how many times they rehearsed all that rubbish before it was filmed, as for KM going through the PJ files with a fine tooth comb I'll bet she did, so they could then come up with their version of events building on their lies and discrediting the PJ investigation. GM at work unbelievable, but then he couldn't rehearse on a hospital ward could he.

Edgar and Cowley's reconstruction again to me unbelevable, agree with NFWTD comment on GM shutting Jane up, when the camera went back to her, to me you could see she didn't agree with him. When GM went to the Ocean Club, looking over to the flat he said "the bushes have grown a bit now, but at the time they were shorter than that" Now I've read the flat couldn't be seen from the Tapas bar because of the height of the bushes?

After what the age progression expert told them, why oh why are they still putting out photo's of Maddie as she was, even the MSM don't very often show the age progression one or put the two side by side.

Are the McCann's genuinely truthful people? IMO they are as false as a glass eye!
