solved Could one of tapas 7 have faked an abduction?

Let us assume for one moment that the Mcans are not implicated. Who else would have the audacity to fake an abduction? Who had the means and opportunity? Who can we rule out? Surely those who never left the table all night. They knew they could not be held accountable or responsible for this crime or for child neglect either. Think about it. Is it possible that another member of the group had reason for maddy to disappear and planned with another to stage it and frame the parents? What might the child know? No one could have anticipated the Gasper statements.

To stage an abduction you need planning and to plant ideas and evidence. Cavadar evidence perhaps. Knowing full well dogs would be called in at some stage.

Sometimes it makes sense to think laterally. In my opinion there was an abduction. Police should take statements of previous nights and who left the table and was absent 2 nights before. They may also be wise to check people entering and leaving portugul that resemble smith man.

Motive? To silence a child who is about to talk. Self preservation. All IMO of course new

But how would you explain the parent's behaviour if they knew nothing about it? I'm thinking of Kate's refusal to answer questions, her insistence on directing the investigation in a particular direction by saying a paedophile took her child without any evidence, and the wildly varying testimonies of the two of them? I'm thinking jemmied shutters,  doors both locked and unlocked etc etc. And what about them promptly leaving Portugal as soon as they were made arguidos? I didn't see Robert Murat doing the same,  perhaps because he had nothing to do with it. If you read all the statements of the pair it becomes quickly obvious that they both changed their stories several times? Why on earth do that if innocent?

ETA not to mention,  cadaver odour was found only on items relating to the McCanns. Assuming one of the tapas seven killed Maddie and tried to frame the parents, where did they kill her? It is impossible as far as I know to eliminate cadaver odour. So wherever they killed her it would be. And the dog searched all rooms at the ocean club without a trace of cadaver except in one place, and on items belonging to two people.

Pandora. I have looked into your question, done some detailed research, consulted with various experts and the agreed opinion was....

Load of tosh.

Easily done.

 titter

Anyway, it's already covered. Mr Smith himself clocked him on 10 September. Knew immediately who the bloke on telly reminded him of.

welcome  Pandora - I doubt you'll be 'new here' for very long,   winkwink

Who, indeed, would have the audacity to fake an abduction and, more pertinently when did they plan it?   Did the audacious one blag a bottle of eau d'cadaverine from a morgue in the Algarve or did they filch a a sample from the UK and pack it along with their holiday gear?

While they're checking  how many Smithman lookalikes left Portugal during the relevant period, perhaps Operation Grange should look to see which of the 4 other doctors who travelled with the McCanns killed the most patients had ready access to corpses and was able to fit into Kate's pants of ganga?

If seems to me your theory owes much to desperation horizontal thinking and imo all of the Tapas 7 should be made aware of it at the earliest opportunity as I have no doubt that, if push comes to shove, the wee one won't hesitate to throw all of his loyal friends under the bus along with his dear wifey.    big grin

You will be perplexed for a very long time if you still think there was an abductor.

As for the Tapas friends, the McCanns have 100% faith in them, how they have that 100% faith is questionable, as they barely knew some of them.  In any event, the parents have never wanted them to be investigated and Kate was in fact relieved that Jane had seen a strange man walking off with her daughter.

Are they all involved?  Well Gerry has reminded his friends in a couple of TV interviews that it was 'a collective decision', one he will remind them of more and more as the net closes in I'm sure.
