He said 'they are too well protected, you can see it,' he also spoke of how the Government was always nosing around his London law firm when he worked on certain cases. Whilst I felt equally pessimistic too, it still depressed me to hear it confirmed direct from the lips of my learned friend.
Yes, Pennylane, this seemingly impenetrable wall can feel soul-destroying at times. But walls can still be chipped away at.
By contrast, a young woman was jailed last week for negligence in letting a television fall on her baby - and it is this blatant inequity in society that rankles all the time. The smug faces, particularly Gerry's smirk, do little for my blood pressure.
I suppose, taking an entirely philosophical view, lifelong public opprobrium is a kind of justice.
I agree with you totally, and thank you for your reassuring reply.
Hopefully the dry rot in TM's walls has gone so deep now that they're way beyond repair, in spite of Operation Grange's dubious attempts to shore them up!

pennylane, I agree it might have seemed depressing at the time your friend said what he did and I am sorry that he is not here today to see what has just happened, but since 2007 things have changed a great deal.
We have communication as never before, the state run propaganda machine of the former press and the BBC are dying like a wilting lilly, corrupt justice and super injunctions are being challenged and reviled.
Forums are being set up where people of kindred thought are joining together to push and push until corrupt authorities are forced to react and justice can be pursued, brought on now by the rising voice and determination of the people.
I am optimistic that just as water, if it is held back from its natural course, will always find the smallest crack to burst through the defenses, the growing weight of disenchanted individuals joining in strength will win for freedom and justice.
The cowards that are corrupt are still only humans, and each one is as capable as the next of betraying his own gang.
Tony's reducing of the McCann's vicious hatred to becoming an 'oh we didn't want to put him in prison really', is just too amazing when you think what impenetrable clout they had had, until Tony faced their gilded puppets in court.
Whatever Judge Tugendhat decides, he has carried out his role impeccably, and that is something that I never thought I would ever see.
Have faith, may you friend's pessimism be our driving force to make things change. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Re: Any CCTV footage?
Thank you for your kind response, bobbin. Our friend was such a kind person, and it was shocking when he died so suddenly.
It doesn't help one's optimism when you see the Crown Prosecution Service, time and time again, thwarting the most heinous of crimes that are brought before it. It's as if there's a band of steel involving top ranking members of the Establishment that can be called upon to close ranks and suppress crimes that involve its members!
On an upbeat note, you are absolutely right, Judge Tugendhat has carried out his role impeccably,
and has restored my faith to no end. So yes there is cause for optimism in the face of a system that appears to be buckling under the weight of a mountain of scandalous coverups.
I'm longing for the day the pink one is hauled in for questioning. Then I will know the damn is really about to burst. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Just done my bit for Anglo-Icelandic relations. Sheep's head, ram's testicles and buried, dried shark. Need a beer
[ what do we reckon ? next sighting Iceland ? ]
p.s. there must have been cctv somewhere in the OC complex, reception esp I would have thought. Would that not have captured some of the creche attendees?

Re: Any CCTV footage?
The only CCTV I have read mentioned is at the Estrela da Luz hotel which is near where the Smiths saw a man carrying a child and where Mr Amaral believed they would have been captured. But by the time the tapes were asked for (presumably after the Smiths coming forward) the tapes had been wiped over.
I read that you can still retrieve deleted images, but if a tape is recorded over then it is very difficult or impossible, depending on various factors, to retrieve older data.
Portugal like many other countries do not have cctv on every corner. In a way its a blessing, in another it could prove vital.
PS I vaguely remember reading something about the main reception having a camera but was pointed towards safety deposit boxes? I don't remember what the conversation or context of that was.

Re: Any CCTV footage?
Whilst I recognise that most CCTV systems will be long-erased by now, I put my original comment up here in case any archived footage that is effectively new comes up.
Yes, I am new to this site (thanks to people who put the welcome msg up), but I am not nieve to think that maybe copies were made, officially or unofficially.
Is there a freedom of information act in Portugal ? Would be nice to try and get footage.
I just want to find anything more that might further discredit these two liars, and hopefully push things along to get the whole case opened up again. I am driven by their coldness when they were first interviewed. If anything, they were looking 'anxious' and a tad nervous, rather than as you expect, distraught. I just 'know' they are lying, with every interview they do.

Are you going to analyse the CCTV footage that there is which I posted up for you? What is your verdict from your expertise in this field?

If only he had a pair of ram's testicles transplanted onto himself perhaps he would then possess an organ which otherwise was missing, and have the balls to tell the truth! Or maybe he's eaten a sheep's brain which will only enhance his baa....baa.....ing talent!
Let's see when the verdict is out what he will do.

@RD If that's a genuine tweet from CM then he's been had! Perhaps the Icelanders had heard about him?

If MW had CCTV directed at safetyboxes, maybe there were pictures of T7 putting things like GSMs, watches, wallets, car keys exetera in them?
And of retrieving them at any time before departure.
