from the posts responding to mine it looks as though the wealthy benefactors only came on board in sept.

Therefore it is likely that John McCann's salary and costs and the family and friends costs came from the Fund. While under the articles of the company (Fund) it was permissible to support the family financially that would not mean paying a salary or a consultancy fee or whatever they called it to John McCann who was a director. The auditors would surely not have allowed this, so who paid him May - sept and possibly thereafter?

Perhaps I am incorrect to say that directors of the Fund cannot receive salaries or fees for work done for the fund. While the Fund was not a charity it was meant to operate in the same way and be open and transparent as kate says in the truthful book.

But why the hell shouldn't they have to sell their home if they are charged in relation to the disappearance of their daughter?

Why should it be announced in a newspaper that criminals will be protected? Especially by the likes of Richard Branson (who works for the NHS).

And PR indeed, this whole circus makes me sick.

Because you are innocent until proved guilty.

It is inappropriate to call the McCanns criminals. It is your opinion that they are, but you are not necessarily correct. Personally I agree with you, but I still would not call them criminals.

I've been reading Kate's book (for the third time so can pick out specific info) and one interesting item is that although the "fund" was set up in mid May they didnt' think about using any of the donations on actually searching for Madeleine until October that year. So the only legitimate expenses in the search for her were the website and costs of buying the wristbands. Obviously though a rather large amount of money was spent in hotels and aeroplanes getting them from Holland, Morocco, Spain, the Vatican - etc.

As regards their villa it is a 4 bedroom one and sleeps 8 persons. Kate and Gerry had one, the twins one, they used one as an office (why?) so that left only 2 beds for any of the visitors. Kate isn't clear where anyone slept except for Trish and Eileen who were at the villa with them for a long while. When Kate's parents went there apparently Trish & Eileen slept on camping beds.

Justine was put up in an apartment at the Ocean Club. I would expect the fund would pay all the expenses of the family and friends who went to visit and almost certainly was paying the rental on the villa and other costs incurred by the entire party.

They moved into the Villa on 2nd July. Up to then Mark Warner had provided free accommodation for them, their family/friends and hangers on. The twins attended Toddler Club free of charge for the duration. Trish and Sandy slept in a fold down bed in the office unless others came to stay - in which case they went to Justine's flat in the OC.

I think Philip Green gave them use of his private jet for the Vatican visit

Honeybunch, as the mccanns would see it all the travel costs to the places you mention were attributable to 'searching for Madeleine.' they were going to those places and meeting the Pope to keep the case profile high so that OTHER PEOPLE would be vigilant.

Your point though about the donations not being used to search until oct is very significant because the Fund (Ltd company) was set up in record time in mid May and I understood the official reason was that the fund would be an appropriate vehicle through which donations would pass, donations that were flooding in from concerned members of the public who wanted to help pay for the search for Madeleine.

It would seem that me and the other people who gave their hard earned donations were paying for the Mccanns and their friends to have an extended holiday and have their mortgage paid also.h
Kate in the book seems to spend only around 4 hours a day with the twins but doesn't see that that is abnormal (this is incredible since her eldest child has been "abducted"). Let the family and the childrens club look after them whilst she is sending emails to people chasing them for money or whizzing allover the world and leaving them for days.

She seems to be the perfect mother NOT! Does she really have a heart?

Suggested setting up “fighting fund” – they would devise objectives and instruct Bates Wells and Braithewaite."

The private limited company was incorporated on 15th May

Just had a thought "fighting fund" what an apt name when it was for fighting media organisations in the courts to get more money!
