Outspoken star Sharon Osbourne has been blasted by the parents of missing Madeleine McCann after she branded them “insane” for leaving their daughter alone.

Former X Factor judge Sharon made the hurtful claims on her US chat show The Talk as she criticised parents for leaving children without supervision.

In a clear attack on Kate and Gerry McCann, Sharon said: “I will tell you a very quick story. There was a husband and wife on holiday in Portugal.

“They left their baby in the room sleeping, sleeping while they went to dinner in the restaurant.

“While they were in the resort their baby was taken. And it is like, ‘Oh but we can see everything that is going on’ and it is, like, insane.”

The comments on Friday’s CBS show have outraged Kate and Gerry.

A family friend said: “It’s very ­disappointing when someone with such a high profile makes this sort of ­ignorant, ill-informed comment.

“She should think about the effect it could have on Madeleine’s brother and sister, as well as the wider family.

“Kate and Gerry have never forgiven themselves and this should not have been aired in a random way, as it ­apparently was.

“It’s based on ignorance of the true facts. While she’s entitled to her view she should keep it to herself.”

Maddie was snatched from a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal, in May 2007, days before her fourth birthday and has never been found.

Kate and Gerry were with other parents at a restaurant a few hundred metres away and the adults took it in turns to pop back to check on their kids.

Sharon, 63, and her panellists were discussing a thread on Mumsnet social media site. A British woman had asked if parents would leave a 10-month-old child sleeping peacefully at home for seven minutes.

Another questioned whether it was acceptable to leave a baby sleeping while they picked something up ­approximately 50 metres away.

Reacting to the suggestion, mum-of-three Sharon said: “This is insane. It is like so many things happen in just a second. If you leave a candle on and the curtain blows on it and it caught on fire.

“And I think of all these scenarios in my head and there is no way in a million years that you would ever do that.”

Days after her abduction dad Gerry said: “Hindsight has proven we made a mistake and we would never leave the children again.”

And as Kate launched her book, Madeleine, in 2011, Gerry said: “Blaming us takes it away from the abductor. Someone stole a child. Of course we feel guilt. But it doesn’t bring the child back. So we tried to take control of things you can influence, to help the search.”

Kate said: “People say, ‘Why didn’t you get a babysitter?’ Having a babysitter implied there was a risk situation and we just didn’t see it like that.

“We didn’t think it was necessary. It wasn’t to save money.”

But she later added: “It goes without saying that we now bitterly regret it.” Cardiologist Gerry has also said: “Who’s thinking about child abductions in a little sleepy out-of-season tourist resort?

“It never entered our minds. We felt very safe — it was a family resort.

“At home you put your kids to bed and go off and do things about the house and garden and don’t think about it.

“We were checking on our kids only metres away. After, we were consumed with guilt. But we can’t change it.”
Sharon’s publicist was approached for comment but did not respond.

But the star – in talks to return to The X Factor – faced a backlash from the families of other missing children.

Sandy Davidson, three, vanished in Irvine, North Ayrshire, in 1976 after trying to catch his dog which had run loose. He had been playing with his sister Donna, who is now 42. Last night she criticised Sharon, saying: “The McCann’s have been through an horrific ordeal and comments like this are unhelpful. People like this should stop passing judgment.

“I’ve met Kate a couple of times and we share their pain. They are victims.”

Meanwhile Nicki Durbin, who is friends with the McCanns, has spent 10 years searching for son Luke, 19 – last seen in Ipswich after a night out.

Nicki, 47, said: “If you had to walk in our shoes, then perhaps your perception would be different.”

Sharon is currently dealing with marital issues over claims rock star husband Ozzy, 67, had a fling with LA hair stylist Michelle Pugh.

Hours before her chat show Ozzy was seen with Sharon and their dog Bella, jumping into a car in Beverly Hills.

Ignorant, ill-informed comment?  Isn't that though the McCanns own version of events -  that they left their baby sleeping while they went to dinner in the restaurant when their baby was taken?

I too agree that Sharon Osbourne was out of order calling the Mccanns decision 'insane' as its stigmatising against people who have mental health conditions. We all know that the Mccanns were in their right and cold mind when they did all they have done.

I don't know which of the THREE, yep THREE, 'well informed' Mirror journos, James Desborough, Emma Pryer, Dan Warburton, that wrote this 'story', wrote 'Maddie WAS SNATCHED from a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal, in May 2007...'

But i'd like the 'one' who wrote 'that' to swear, under oath, in a UK courtroom, that 'that' was TRUE! (and not just 'ill informed, ignorant'..... speculation!)

The Mirror 'journo' er, 'seems' to 'know' more about Madeleine's 'disappearance' than a 5 year, £16million, full time 'investigation' by 38 full time MET POLICE 'staff' could 'uncover'!

Leaving THREE kiddies, all under 4 years of age, in a diliberately, consciously, willingly and knowingly unlocked apartment, out of sight and earshot for at least 34 minutes, 'seems' pretty 'risky' to this 'ill informed, ignorant' parent!

ONE of the THREE kiddies, or indeed, ALL THREE kiddies, 'might' have been 'abducted'!

Still, NO 'risk' there, eh Ka£e?

They are unreal & cannot accept others opinions, question is why is that? 
They do not accept responsibility for the (supposed) abduction by leaving their children (if they left them) nor do they accept any investigative evidence or intelligence. Either way they oppose, excuse or deny everything, anything and anyone that does not tow the line with their 'theory'...they court the media at any given opportunity... strikes me that they even believe their own lies!

I don't think that the McCanns will mind too much.  After all, Sharon has done them a favour by backing up that famous media line "Madeleine disappeared on May 3rd 2007 whilst her parents dines with friends at the local tapas".  

They don't want us looking back to April 29th, do they?  Personally, I think that Madeleine disappeared well before May 3rd.  If that is true, then no way would any of the Tapas gang leave their children un-attended.  Is it true then,  that all the children were sleeping in one apartment and that at least one of the friends stayed behind each night, with the alleged tummy bug?

IMO The McCanns were far too quick in telling us that they left the kids alone to out every evening, and the media have drummed the May 3rd scenario into us in almost every single article that they have printed.

The Dispatches documentary also clearly shows how far and how obscured the vision of the apartment was from the tapas bar, and in addition confirmed the Drs' McCann had their backs to it when seated!

Bare in mind that it appears in the Daily Mirror, another source of dodgy information.

All the comments on the Daily Mail article have been removed and no longer being accepted!

I've just read the article on the mail online. It said on the home page beneath the article that there were 1.6k comments but when I've scrolled down to read them it says "we are not currently accepting comments at this time" and whooosh the 1.6k comments are vanished. Not that the mail would ever print anything anti Mccann anyway. Man I wish the world knew the truth

Bayonne don't despair, most people are keenly aware that the McCanns abduction story stinks to high heaven!  Their expensive attempts to boost their image have failed abysmally, and each time they open their mouths more people view them with disdain.  Their name has become synonymous with child neglect, distrust, greed, and narcissism, and now nine years later when they desperately hoped for the Op Grange seal of approval before sailing off into the sunset, Goncalo Amaral is set to rain on all their parades as he sets the world straight re their brazenly dire attempt to convince the masses Maddie was abducted.

Karma has meted out its own form of justice, and who knows what else is around the corner!

I've always liked Sharon Osbourne, who seems to be a very shrewd lady to me.

Let's see Martin Brunt doorstep Sharon Osbourne!  The Mirror already know where she lives, you can just ask them Martin.  Then you can run a clip of the encounter every 30 minutes for a whole day. 
I'm not a Sky subscriber, but I would pay good money to see that one.

Methinks the McCanns will steer well clear of Madam Osbourne! 

Sharon Osbourne will not worry what they say about her in the papers.   Being married to Ozzy all those years aint no easy task.

I don't think they will be suing Sharon though will all her money.  

It doesn't help them in America imo especially if some of the "bids" for the 10th anniversary interviews we heard about from Mitchell (if, of course, Maddie is still missing he said) were from America.
 
Steve Allan, LBC radio was on about them this morning.  Didn't hear all of it but I think I heard him say along the lines of they should read what is being said on internet about them.   My impression was that he was agreeing with Sharon, but as I say didn't catch all of his show.

I'm surprised she hasn't accused them of stealing her 3 carat D graded diamond ring.
