*Warning* Daily Mail are doorstepping 100's of people who donated to Amaral's Defence Fund
I was messaged on facebook last night about the Daily Mail who have obtained the names of 100's of people who donated to Amaral's Defence Fund and are in the process of doorstepping them.
Some people have already been doorstepped and followed.
RIP Brenda Leyland.

Re: *Warning* Daily Mail are doorstepping 100's of people who donated to Amaral's Defence Fund
And the point of this is? What are they wanting to achieve?
Who has already been 'door stepped ' or 'followed' ?
Isn't one death enough!
I am so angry now with it all, it's a damn circus!
They are welcome at my door, I'm no Brenda; Rest her Soul!

So the Daily Mail have a 'dossier' just like Sky?
Perhaps they should compare notes!
How or whom supplied theses names/addresses?
All this because Amaral won?
I don't get it!!!
More to this than meets the eye!
Which way should we look, as it's not over our shoulders!?
Nasty, just nasty!

This is the Establishment verses the People.
This goes way deep... way way deep....
Question is why?

If you are doorstepped, stand proud and ask the journalist if he/she knows what the original Police investigation concluded.

Excellent approach.NickE wrote:If you are doorstepped, stand proud and ask the journalist if he/she knows what the original Police investigation concluded.
I would be careful to keep it all calm and level. Keep it minimum. Know/prepare what you want to say and stick to it. Do not get diverted - say your piece and close the door.
These lowlifes are after a story.

Film them or ask someone with you to film them. Post the video on line, link it to a forum like this.
But above all, ask them why they are not reporting the 5 conclusions from the Portuguese investigation & why they report abduction.

That's good advice.
This news doesn't have to be a negative does it?
As far as I'm aware people are entitled to contribute to Amaral's defense fund if they wish to. And the Daily Mail are becoming more interested, if not in reporting the other side of the story, at least publishing comments from Amaral's supporters.

Re: *Warning* Daily Mail are doorstepping 100's of people who donated to Amaral's Defence Fund
I am one of the "sick trolls" who gave a donation to the fund, but I am certainly NOT an "anti-McCann". I gave because I believe in truth and justice. I have no more knowledge of what happened to Madeleine McCann than the next person, but what I DO know, and it is blatantly obvious to all those who have a single functioning brain cell, that this whole McCann saga is crawling with lies and contradictions.
As for the Gofundme fund, it allowed a man to put his case forward. Something he couldn't have done without truthseekers help. As a result, he "won" on this occasion.
Is there a particular group of people who would like to deny someone's right to a fair hearing, just because they lack the finances to have their day in court. The truth is the truth, and no matter how deep one buries it, it will come to the surface, eventually (won't it Hillsborough?). So giving financial support to Dr Amaral doesn't make him less guilty or more innocent. What it has done is allowed him to have the chance to PROVE whether he was innocent or guilty. In this instance, Dr Amaral WON!

Re: *Warning* Daily Mail are doorstepping 100's of people who donated to Amaral's Defence Fund
Wouldn't that be illegal? Not only receiving names and addresses, but using that private information to stalk and doorstep people? I think it is scaremongering but why? After all, the money has already been paid, Amaral won his appeal and the fund is closed. What would the Daily Mail gain from this? I would love to know where this rumour started from.MayMuse wrote:So the Daily Mail have a 'dossier' just like Sky?

I just looked at the source of this "rumour". Enough said!
I doubt that anyone who donated to Dr Amaral's fund has anything to fear. Let the Daily Mail knock on doors, if that is what floats its boat. But I have no doubt that this poppycock, put on Twitter by some bitter person. Just look at some of the posts by this person.
I rest my case!

Re: *Warning* Daily Mail are doorstepping 100's of people who donated to Amaral's Defence Fund
Just in case, although as @sallypelt has concluded, seems highly improbable! I would suggest asking them to get off your property and to stop taking photos (politely). I would record all this on my phone in full view and if possible get a photo of them on your property. I would not enter into any discussion - from experience (even with 'friendly' journalists) anything you say will be edited and used out of context.
If they then publish anything at all - photo, name, any comments - as I understand it they have broken the law (not that will probably help!):
Harassment by Journalists and Photographers.
April 29, 2012
The Protection from Harassment Act 1997 provides
The act provides for a criminal and civil offence. It must be conduct that has occurred on two or more occasions.
Repeated door-stepping or questioning by journalists, photography, video surveillance and pursuit by reporters or paparazzi could all constitute harassment under PFHA 1997. Publication of an article or photograph obtained from the above could then form the second incident to constitute the course of conduct. It is not necessary for the victim to suffer alarm or distress from, or even be aware of the activities leading to publication at the time they were happening. If the conduct would be considered harassment by a reasonable person in possession of the same information then it may come within the act.

We have previously written about the Protection from Harassment Act 1997 and how the act has been used against journalists as an alternative or alongside Libel and Privacy claims. If you require advice call Carruthers law today. Why not have a look at our section on Defamation.
Clause 4 (Harassment) of the Code of Practice enforced by the PCC says thatThere are also similar provisions in the Ofcom code to deal with harassment by journalists and photographers.
- “journalists must not engage in intimidation, harassment or persistent pursuit” and that they “must not persist in questioning, telephoning, pursuing or photographing individuals once asked to desist; nor remain on their property when asked to leave and must not follow them”.
The Protection from Harassment Act 1997 provides
“ Prohibition of harassment
(1) A person must not pursue a course of conduct,
(a) which amounts to harassment of another, and
(b) which he knows or ought to know amounts to harassment of the other…
(2) For the purposes of this section, the person whose course of conduct is in question ought to know that it amounts to or involves harassment of another if a reasonable person in possession of the same information would think the course of conduct amounted to or involved harassment of the other.”
The act provides for a criminal and civil offence. It must be conduct that has occurred on two or more occasions.

I read this on Candyfloss's forum. The poster has hit the nail on the head, so much so, that it's worthy of sharing. I hope the poster doesn't mind me copying and posting here, but apologies in advance.

If it's true (which I don't believe) and you get a knock on the door from a DM journalist deal with them in the following way:
1. Put down your CANCER causing cup of coffee and CANCER causing bacon sandwich (unless you're a middle-class mother in which case put down your first post school-run bottle of WINE)
2. Open the front door and FLAUNT your curves.
3. Do not, under any circumstances, tell them the VALUE of your house.
4. Set the pack of ILLEGAL immigrants you found living under your shed onto them.
3. Slam the door to SHOW THEM WHAT THEY'RE MISSING.

This was my first thought too. If you film the exchange then your words can't be twisted, and the world will have evidence of you being doorstepped (which may not be implicitly presented in print).
This video has some useful tips!

Is this true - what the heck do they hope to achieve? It's not a crime to donate money to a legitimate cause - naff off! What next, the threat of imprisonment for donating to the Missing People Charity or sponsoring Kate McCann on the Great Praia da Luz - Leicester Marathon Run?Get'emGonçalo wrote:

Best way to tackle it is -
Ask journalist to show proof of identity.
Use your mobile phone to photo capture id card, or keep business card if one is produced.
Tell IT (reference for him or her) to get lost and don't come back, or you will call the police.
Film IT in action harassing you.
That should do it.
If IT dares show up again, get a hard brush dirty broom to hand and warm the IT
you are going to use it if IT doesn't get lost...

I don't believe it, but do as Google gasper statements (the poster here said), ask them loudly if they have googled the gasper statements and record it all.
If they trespass phone the police.
