EXCLUSIVE: MI5 spies know what happened to Maddie McCann claims Portuguese detective
MI5 AGENTS know what happened to missing Madeleine McCann but are covering it up, claims former Portuguese detective Goncalo Amaral.
The disgraced detective made the bombshell claim in a Portuguese television documentary that openly mocked Scotland Yard’s new investigation. When asked if people will ever learn what really happened, Mr Amaral responded: “Yes, we will, when MI5 opens the case files, we will find out.
“Don’t forget that the British secret services followed the case right from the beginning. I don’t know if that information will be made available but if it’s like the United States, it takes years to have access to confidential information.”
Mr Amaral, 56, was the officer who co-ordinated the Portuguese police investigation from May 3, 2007, when three-year-old Madeleine vanished from her family’s holiday apartment at Praia da Luz on the Algarve.
After criticising British police he was kicked off the case four months later.
In his latest interview he claims that after two British police dogs were used to searched the McCann’s apartment at the Ocean Club, his team had to take the British person responsible for the operation to Faro Airport.
Amaral, now retired and working as a crime writer, went on: “He’s at the airport waiting for a plane to return to England and he receives a phone call. Then he explains to our colleague that a member of MI5 was at the airport, waiting to talk with him about the result of the investigation.
“Someone has the information, so make the information available.”
There has been suspicion in the senior ranks of Portugal’s police that US and/or British intelligence chiefs have satellite images of the area that could be helpful but have never passed them on.
The latest Scotland Yard squad is apparently working on the theory that Madeleine was abducted by burglars who were also involved in drug trafficking. Mr Amaral said the same theory was put forward by a Yard detective seconded to his team seven years ago.
“It was discussed and completely set aside because it made no sense,” he said. “Nobody has proved the house was broken into, that there was a theft, there are no traces of a break-in. No money, cameras or anything else was taken.”
He said he expects the latest Yard inquiry to wind down soon, without a breakthrough, adding: “They are getting to the point of saying that she is dead.
“They will reach the point of saying that the cadaver can’t be found and the case can’t be solved.”
Mr Amaral will face Madeleine’s parents Kate and Gerry McCann, from Rothley, Leicestershire, at a civil court in Lisbon on July 8.
The couple, who cling to the hope their daughter might be alive, are suing him for £1million for libel over his claim that Madeleine died in the apartment, made in his book The Truth Of The Lie.

A number of allegations of child sex abuse emerged after MP Cyril Smith's death[REX]
The former civil servant has told detectives investigating the activities of paedophiles in national politics that the Metropolitan Police’s Special Branch was orchestrating the child-sex lobbying group in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
The whistleblower, who has spoken exclusively to the Sunday Express, says he was also warned off asking why such a notorious group was being handed government money.
It emerged late last year that PIE was twice gave amounts of £35,000 in Home Office funding between 1977 and 1980, the £70,000 total equivalent to over £400,000 in today’s money.
Those details surfaced only after the whistleblower highlighted his concerns to campaigning Labour MP Tom Watson and his revelations have triggered an ongoing Home Office inquiry into why the cash was given to PIE which was abolished in 1985 after a number of prosecutions.
Until now, speculation about the grant has centred on Clifford Hindley, the late Home Office manager who approved the payments. However, the whistleblower told the Sunday Express he thought higher and more sinister powers were at play.
He has given a formal statement to that effect to detectives from Operation Fernbridge, which is looking into allegations of historic sex abuse at the Elm Guest House in south-west London.
At that time, questioning anything to do with Special Branch, especially within the Home Office, was a ‘no-no’.
Mr X, whistleblower
PIE, now considered one of the most notorious groups of the era, had gained respectability in political circles. Its members are said to have included establishment figures, and disgraced Liberal MP Cyril Smith was a friend of founder member Peter Righton.
In 1981, Tory MP Geoffrey Dickens used Parliamentary privilege to name Sir Peter Hayman, the deputy director of MI6, as a member of PIE and an active paedophile. In 1983 Mr Dickens gave the Home Office a dossier of what he claimed was evidence of a paedophile network of “big, big names, people in positions of power, influence and responsibility”. The Home Office says the dossier no longer exists.
Whistleblower Mr X, whose identity we have agreed to protect, became a very senior figure in local government before retiring a few years ago. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, he was a full-time consultant in the Home Office’s Voluntary Services Unit run by Clifford Hindley.
In 1979 Mr X was asked to examine a funding renewal application for PIE, but he became concerned because the organisation’s goal of seeking to abolish the age of consent “conflicted” with the child protection policies of the Department of Health and Social Security and asked for a meeting with Mr Hindley, his immediate boss.

Mr X recalled: “I raised my concerns, but he told me that I was to drop them. Hindley gave three reasons for this. He said PIE was an organisation with cachet and that its work in this field was respected.
“He said this was a renewal of an existing grant and that under normal Home Office practice a consultant such as myself would not be involved in the decision-making process.
“And he said PIE was being funded at the request of Special Branch which found it politically useful to identify people who were paedophiles. This led me not to pursue my objections. At that time, questioning anything to do with Special Branch, especially within the Home Office, was a ‘no-no’.
“I was under the clear belief that I was being instructed to back off and that his reference to Special Branch was expected to make me to do so.
“Hindley didn’t give me an explicit explanation of what Special Branch would do with information it gleaned from funding PIE, but I formed the belief that it was part of an undercover operation or activity. I was aware a lot of people in the civil service or political arena had an interest in obtaining information like that which could be used as a sort of blackmail.”
He said he asked for a file the Home Office kept on PIE, but his request was refused. However, he was certain then Tory Home Office Minister Tim Raison, who died in 2011, must have signed the 1980 funding application.
Mr X has given a formal written statement to the inquiry set up last year into former Home Office links with PIE but has refused to meet the inquiry in person because he fears “repercussions” under the Official Secrets Act.
Yesterday Tom Watson said: “The whole sorry business makes it absolutely imperative the Home Secretary bows to the will of the 114 MPs demanding a full, fearless public investigation into child sexual abuse.”
Special Branch was an integral part of the intelligence service gathering intelligence on spies and political threats to the state. In 2005 it merged with the anti-terrorism branch to form a Counter Terrorism Command.

I wonder IF the Home Secretary, T May, will be giving UNLIMITED taxpayers money to fund 'a full and fearless PUBLIC investigation', and BOW to the will of, and DEMANDED by, 114 'serving' MP's, into child sexual abuse.
Well she BOWED, pretty damn quick, to the 'will' of 2 former arguidos, with over £8 MILLION (and rising daily) UNLIMITED taxpayers money, in a 'missing' child case, didn't she?
A case where ONLY the 2 parents, of the 'missing' child, and the LAST 2 people to have seen the 'missing' child alive, have said 'she WAS abducted'
Without the 2 parents providing a scintilla of EVIDENCE/PROOF that that was the case, and that an 'abduction' even took place..

The whole Madeleine McCann case is one of the strangest things I am aware of. I started reading that article and just knew the phrase 'disgraced detective' was coming up. That phrase is repeated again and again by journalists and it is never spelled out exactly why the reader is meant to think that he is 'disgraced'! What's going through their minds!?

This is bad for those commissioned to handle the demi - cover up, they will cover up so far,.....in as much as high level individuals will never see the inside of a courtroom / jail cell, but the "gruesome twosome" can be thrown to the wolves if it helps the sleigh go faster. Cast your mind back all of a week and remember the person who had sex with one of the accused for a number of years (plus having the benefit of DC's brother defend them, escaped jail, whilst an "underling" was thrown under the train. This is ALL being carefully "stage managed" depending on circumstances. This is an "ongoing", dynamic situation, that is difficult to predict. All we do know is they play certain cards when anyone gets to close to the truth. Take pie for example, this has been swirling around on the internet for years if you wanted to look for it. Now "it was all a counter intelligence" exercise and we're all mistaken. Right.....[strokes imaginary beard]

They refer to DR Amaral as the "disgraced detective " however they DONT refer to the gruesome twosome as "LIARS " when its proved the pair of them changed their stories to the police and found a need to hire a "GOVERNMENT SPIN DOCTOR " AKA PROFESSIONAL LIAR . Why would any decent Government have need for a " SPIN DOCTOR " if they TELL THE TRUTH ? This case has world attention , as for Bernard Hogan Howe he is not fit for purpose he should be sacked in Public Interest . Was it NOT BHH Who claimed he trusted his "officers" 100% ? They ended up CHARGED AND ONE IS IN PRISION ! The man is a Disgrace to the force and so is the ones who are LEADING THIS CASE , ITS A WASTE OF PUBLIC MONEY . IF THE ONE IN CHARGE OF SCOTLAND YARD IS A LIAR , WHAT CAN ONE EXPECT OF THE OFFICERS UNDER HIS COMMAND ? As for David Cameron , he claims there is unlimited money to spend when the country has "FOOD BANKS " ITS TIME TO VOTE UKIP ! , Then get UKIP TO REOPEN THIS CASE AND CHARGE ALL FROM THE PREVIOUS GOVERNMENT WHO HAVE SAVED THE MCCANNS FROM BEING TAKEN TO COURT AND CHARGED FOR NEGLECT AND FRAUD .

This "Batty old woman" has lost the plot. She's married to someone who was once in the RAF. Other than that, she's a complete nobody, who pretends to be someone important. MI5 is counterintelligence - and operates within Britain. Nothing to do with Portugal
SIS (used to be MI6) is concerned with stuff overseas.
They obviously talk to each other, but are separate departments
There was a full range from MI-1 to MI-19. Most now defunct

That's my opinion too, PM.
MI5 is the domestic spy agency in the UK - the US equivalent would be the FBI. Concerned only with things which happen on UK soil.
SIS (MI6) is the international spy agency in the UK - the US equivalent would be the CIA. James Bond worked for MI6, not MI5. SIS concerned with things which happen outside the UK but which have impact on UK interests.
So if MI5 is for some reason involved in any of this, then it's because of concerns incidents or investigations which have occurred inside the UK, not in Portugal.
If the "secret service" is involved at all about anything that happened in Portugal, it would be MI6 / SIS.

Although mainly concerned with internal security, it does have an overseas role in support of its mission

If there is a situation abroad that involves UK citizens only and this situation is classified as a security issue in the UK for any reason, is it totally impossible that MI5 travel to Portugal,in this case for example?
