Sorry I can't do links from my phone but if anyone can the webmaster has put a notice up basically saying that they will not be making any announcements on the case and not to listen to the recent media reporting.
If someone could link I'd appreciate it as I don't want to give wrong info.

This is the statement, from the Find Madeleine Facebook Page Webmaster (whoever that may be) - capitals as in the original, posted about 7pm tonight:

I would like to remind those new to our page that Gerry and Kate will only comment on the investigation to find Madeleine when and if any updates FROM THE POLICE warrant a statement.

Please allow the police to do their jobs and not speculate or fuel rumours. We will not answer questions related to unfounded and speculative press articles and we ask that you not post them on our page.

OK, I'll answer that.

NO.

People have been suggesting that something is 'afoot' ever since this £6.5 million (and rapidly rising) SY investigation began. The recent flurry of McCann stories in the media seems to coincide with the libel hearing date on Tuesday - just as other McCann media flurries have coincided with key stages of the libel trial.

DCI Redwood's message has been very very clear for months...

* much work still to do

* costs could rise soon to £10 million

* 41 suspects and people of interest to talk to

* more visits to Portugal needed

* thousands of mobile 'phone records still to check in 31 countries.

And so on.

Nope, no sign of 'something afoot' there.

So basically they are keeping schtum until the police reveal what they have really been up to. The Mccann's are playing a game of chess here, and wont make any move until the police make their moves.

The way the investigation is progressing, I suspect the Mccann's will be quiet for a long, long time...

What a change in attitude from Kate and Gerry! They were very vocal in the past, especially while the PJ were investigating them. But then...they apparently knew everything that the PJ were doing.

I don't think SY are sharing anything with them. I think they got blindsided on CW and now they must be excrutiatingly aware that whatever they say now could be used against them in a court of law.

Perhaps with the 7th Jan arriving imminently and the outcome of the Lisbon trial, Gerry and Kate don't want to have to explain any awkward questions to the readership, or have the trial outcome publicised.

Gerry's not capable of keeping schtum, sonic.

Those carefully planted stories with quotes attributed to the 'family source', 'a source close to the family', or just plain 'a source', have come direct from the mouth of the manic manipulator into the ear of the pink facilitator who yanks the chain of a journo and instructs them to reproduce his master's words accordingly.

All of what used to be known as Fleet Street, but which is now scattered to points east, west, and north of the 'street of shame', are on their toes ready for the race to grab the scoop of the century - 'Arrests Made In Maddie Case - More To Follow Say Police' - in which there'll be no quote which can be attributed to 'the man and a woman' whose arses have been hauled in for questioning unless it comes from their lawyers rather than the highly paid placer of untruths.

Until that happy day dawns, we're stuck with the same regurgitated claptrap which no longer succeeds in persuading anyone that black is white or vice versa.

Refrain from speculations or fuel rumours ?

Those were exclusively their specialisation all along - what with the 3 burglars identified, burlgary gone wrong as main line of enquiry, and what not - it just does not gel with their latest ?

Expecting to lose the libel hence pre-empting the media frenzy that will come with it ? Or are they expecting SY to make an announcement soon ?

It's their tired old hackneyed 'fall back' position... attempting to have us believe that they intend to keep a dignified silenced - as if - while they swan seamlessly on the still surface of an untroubled lake when the reality is that, underneath, their little webbed feet are going like pistons in order to churn and muddy the water.

Expect more stories designed to deflect attention from what's going on in the libel trial - the more desperate they're feeling at the prospect of losing, the more propoganda they'll manufacture, and the busier their little pink PR clown will be.

This came as a real surprise to me. The reasoning behind it they say is because certain members of their page had been asking them questions about the articles. I would guess given articles in the past eg tractorman,Roma girl etc it is unlike them to issue such a statement.
I also had a comment on their page for 50 mins before it(and i) was removed from posting. Strange really as all i did was answer someones question about what happens on Tuesday.
They really like to censor people!

I thought something may be afoot myself but given tonys post Im not so sure now.

Must say the smiles looked pretty convincing but I believe it was bravado, or more accurately a middle finger to this forum and all their critics. As long as the shop is closed, the case is not going their way.They cannot possibly be calm and relaxed right now unless they are automatons. Tuesday looks set to be the first of the big disasters coming their way. It will not be the final verdict of course, but each party will sum up their evidence, and as we saw quite clearly, the McCanns haven't got any. Added to which there are two police forces investigating the case in depth, and both are determined to reach a conclusion. Even if the McCanns have told the truth throughout, this would be a traumatic time as they are soon to discover the fate of their missing daughter. Their appearance at Goodison Park imo, merely shows what good actors they are!

It could be that some information was leaked to the media, preparing us for the truth, which we already know.
I think that the UK leaks out more than Portugal does and that is my hope.
Perhaps Lisbon, perhaps the Yard. Lisbon is no secret at all.

On McCannfiles there are more photos of Kate and Gerry's where they are not looking well. They were taken yesterday.

Hang on a minute - is their webmaster actually implying the press articles were unfounded speculations on the Press part, nothing to do with the Kate & Gerry?

Then how to explain the Press attributing the story to "informed source" ?
Since MET couldn't be the source, who could the "informed" source be if not from team Mccann?
Don't tell me the Press deliberately drops them in it!

If the Press falsely attributed it to Team Mccann whether expressly or implied, why did they not file complaint against the Newspapers for spreading rumours ? Since when they're shy on setting CR on the Press ?

Could it be that the Press was putting them in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons but there's nought they can do about it as the alleged source is an ambiguous thing. A load of garbage can be attributed to mysterious or fictitious "informed" or "phantom" source and who's going to be any wiser about the veracity of it, since the Press has no obligation to divulge their 'source'.

Surely common sense suggests this is about the libel trial which they fear they are going to lose. So it's just about keeping the troops onside. If the libel case goes against them they will just keep plugging this line about it being irrelevant and it is only the police enquiries that matter. It might be related to injunctions they have secured or are looking to secure, to stop UK media reporting on the content of Amaral's book. But we wouldn't know about those injunctions. That's the whole point of them.

We have had a bunch of "leaked" stories recently (tractorman, the burglermen). There has been intense speculation that the source in each case was close to the Mccanns. I think this fb post is just an attempt to try and distance themselves from those leaks / sources.

It helps add credibility to the reports in the eyes of their supporters, if they can believe that sources are the police. So just playing to their own choir in this instance. And asking those same supporters not to talk about the stories that they themselves may have sourced is just some ironic icing on the cake.

They are never ambiguous (well not unintentionally so) as far as I can see. That is their genius. They (well I suspect Gerry in reality) are very good communicators.

In my view timing is always the crucial factor with the McCanns. That's why one moment it will be "We have to visit every European capital to search for Madeleine." - the next moment it will be "The search is best left to professional agencies." That's why one moment it was "We are not able to comment on the case due to restrictions under Portugese law." The next it was "This is our version." Once it was "Whatever the Police are saying, we know what the truth is and that is more important." Now it is "Whatever the courts say is the truth, it's not important - only what the Police say is important."

They get the timing right.
