Gerry's Virgin Active London Triathlon 2013

My story
While witnessing Kate train for the London Marathon on behalf of the charity Missing People, I decided maybe I could set myself a challenge and help in some way too. It didn't take Kate long to organise my entry for the Virgin London Triathlon!!
Although a pretty onerous event, it's a challenge which I know will be far less than that of being a parent of a missing child. The charity, Missing People, works incredibly hard to help missing children and adults and to support their families - a lifeline for many in this nightmarish situation.
By participating in the London Triathlon I hope to play a part in helping the charity and the valuable work it does. I am very grateful for your sponsorship which will make a big difference to those who are missing and their families living this painful limbo.
Thank you very much for your support.

Kate was doing likewise with her marathon run. No doubt he will be wearing a 'Missing People' vest, with a large picture of Madeleine underneath, making it clear that there is only one missing person who matters.

I was getting worried that Pam Gurney had gone missing in action but she's there as a supporter.
I hope that Gerry doesn't grind too many teeth down at the prospect of having to hand over sponsorship money to anyone other than himself.

Gerry has set his target at £1000 - that's considerably lower than Kate's target for the London Marathon.

Now we have brought the matter to the attention of the pros - see pros, we do have another use apart from just making you fall about laughing - no doubt they will contribute every spare penny of their hard-earned cash (?!) to such a worthy cause.
It's more than a week away yet.

While witnessing Kate - still using that there legal jargon Gerry? Most people would have watched or supported or even helped.
Kate also gets a double name-check.
Perhaps this is the McCanns way of showing that they are still together - not divorced and not estranged.

Snipped from the last update on findmadeleine website (2nd May 2013 - 6 year anniversary although Madeleine went missing on 3rd May)
In the early days, Gerry remarked that we weren't sure whether this journey would be a sprint or a marathon. It's been much, much more than a marathon (I'm qualified to say that now!) We really appreciate how lucky we have been to be surrounded by such fabulous support for so long. Thank you to all our supporters for being there alongside us and for never forgetting about Madeleine. We're here for the long haul, for as long as it takes. Thank you for being there too.
And finally, a special 'thank you' to everybody who sponsored me to run the London marathon recently. Your kind donations, which have now amounted to more than £21,000 (fantastic!) will allow the charity, Missing People, to continue the search for many missing children and vulnerable adults, as well as provide essential support for their families. Your compassion and generosity will help to ease the suffering of many people. Thank you.

£21,000? Well that should cover just about HALF of the money required to cover pension costs to the staff employed by Missing People!
None of that £21,000 goes anywhere near to finding a single missing person!
Or that £21,000 could be used to pay the person that is paid £70,000 a year as a salary, just 30% of his/hers WAGES!
Kate had better get her running shoes on because the 70 Grand person is still £49,000 short of getting thier 'wage'
Don't forget that the first £1,331,760 'collected' by missing people charity goes on staff COSTS!
NOT a penny of that goes to find a single missing person.
IF they only 'collect' that amount, in a year, what money do they use to find anyone?
The above figures are from the missing people annual accounts for 2011-2012.
https://www.missingpeople.org.uk/missing-people/who-we-are/finances
Who knows how much they need to collect this year to cover their 'wages'?
So McCanns, get your running shoes on, Missing People have over a million pounds staff COSTS to cover!

Missing People
Charity Registration No. 1020419
"Missing People offer a lifeline for the 250,000 people who run away and go missing each year. For those left behind we provide specialised support to ease the heartache and confusion, and help search for their missing loved ones."
How many of these 250,000 'missing 'people' FAMILIES get their own EXCLUSIVELY dedicated 30+ strong police team, with unlimited 'funding' for life, presumeably, to find THEM?
Kerry Needham DIDN'T!

Hmm.
No mention of missing people actually 'searching' for anyone 'missing'
"Missing People, works incredibly hard to HELP, not 'FIND?' missing children"
Just like Kate McCann was 'working incredibly hard' NOT actually 'searching' for her child!
"I am very grateful for your sponsorship which will make a big difference to those who are missing..."
How will it make a big difference to those who are missing, when we know that the first million+ sponsorship for missing people is spent on staff costs!
Finally ,will we have the usual nasty troll story, from the McCanns and 'friends', in the run up to this event, like 'the man with the starter gun threatened to shoot me'!
Which TROLL 'story' do you think we will get?

That bike ride which didn't come off was timed to coincide with the launch of the book - rumour had it that security would be a problem since it seemed that Dr. McCann isn't universally popular either here or on the continent.
KATE MCCANN’S EMOTIONAL BATTLE TO FINISH MADELEINE TRIBUTE
Monday March 28 2011 by Tracey Kandohla and David Pilditch
[..]
The friend said: “She is adamant it will be her very own account – written in her words – and has turned down offers by her publishers of a ghost writer.”
Kate has been helped by her husband Gerry and close friend Fiona Payne, who was also on the ill-fated holiday in the Algarve resort of Praia da Luz.
The book was originally due to be published on April 28 – just before the fourth anniversary of Madeleine’s disappearance.
But publishers Transworld postponed the release date by a fortnight because it would clash with the “media frenzy” surrounding the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton on April 29.
Heart consultant Gerry, 42, has also postponed his own money-raising event – cycling from Portugal to England – because of the royal wedding.
Kate’s book, simply entitled “Madeleine”, will now be published on May 12. That is the day of Madeleine’s eighth birthday, underlining the book’s central message that her parents are convinced she is still alive.
The couple, who have five-year-old twins Sean and Amelie, have publicly told of their fear that lack of cash could make it impossible for them to continue searching for their daughter.
Gerry’s marathon fund-raising cycle ride from Portugal to England has been put back until the summer.
Gerry and three friends were due to begin the gruelling 2,000-mile journey from Praia da Luz to Rothley on May 3.

A family source said last night: “Gerry is disappointed because he was looking forward to the challenge to continue raising awareness and funds.”

Why did he postpone his trip because of the royal wedding - was he invited?
The bike ride never happened, although it was rescheduled for the summer.

There's NOTHING stopping him from riding from UK to Lisbon, Portugal, fund raising along the way, to deliver, to the AG and the PJ, his and Kate's personally SIGNED hand written letter demanding that the investigation into the case of their 'missing' daughter is re-opened immediately!
As is his and Kate's RIGHT!
Would even save him 'the price of a stamp'!

ah bless him, he's over his disappointment then. Onwards and upwards....set a challenge of a £1,000 donation to missing people and a bit of exertion in London for a couple of days.

Maybe they can't afford, after paying staff 'costs' a venue big enough for the family members of the other 249,900 annually 'missing people' to gather in.
Having said that, i think i might well 'attend' to ask some of the families what do they think about one family getting unlimited help to find one child that went missing whilst her parents were enjoying themselves out of sight, compared to the help they received when their family member went 'missing'..

- why when I counted last, out of the 100.000s of 'missing people' there are less than 500 on their website? Which includes missing people also featured on other websites such as a Ceops run one on missing children, some of whom would now be over sixty! Once you get on such a site, seems you never get off it? I'll try and find the link.

For information, there's a Facebook page called Treat All Children The Same As Madeleine McCann.
To avoid confusion, this means treat all children as in the unprecedented coverage and help, and thankfully not the way in which her parents did when she was with them.
