Given previous cases of this kind, I think we all know the truth will out. Because of certain actions by certain people it will be longer in this case but still the truth will become known.
Unfortunately there will be fallout. Firstly the good and kind people who supported the McCanns, donated money and defended them when the truth was questioned. They will have to deal with the question of how they could have misjudged them so completely and be so totally taken in. They will unfortunately be dealing with that as best they can. They will in all likelihood become a bit more cynical and not be so quick to believe people in future and that is so sad.
Then we have the press. They of course cannot be seen to be wrong. They will blame the McCanns for being excellent conmen despite their story being full of holes to anyone with a brain. They will say their collective heartstrings were tugged so much that they wanted to believe in the abduction and so supported them. I think the press are setting them up for the inevitable fall when (After it is forgotten that the press aided and abetted them.) the news media will supervise the virtual stoning. This will guarantee news items for years to come (McCann confesses to cellmates, has relationship with same sex cellmate etc , much the same as Rose west stories while in prison.
Then there's the politicians. Well they'll quietly bury any involvement in a public enquiry which costs millions and whitewashes everything. Now you know why I chose philthecynic.[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

And then there will be those whose professional conduct leaves much to be desired.
Solicitors who did not do "due diligence" before handing over millions of pounds of donated money to fraudsters; accountants who did not sufficiently research the accounts to discover that there was something wrong; Directors who did not perform their tasks with proper diligence, and so on.
I do not include C-R in that list, incidentally. They are paid their thirty thousand pieces of silver to protect a reputation. For them the facts are irrelevant, and slightly tedious as they tend to get in the way of what they are doing. They are beyond the pale for other reasons.
