Yes bet they are terrified :yahoo: They tried and failed to supress details of the police investigation to be heard in court. Shows just how scared they are of everyone finding out that police, both Portugese and British, suspected them and with very good reason.

Marigold, try to get your facts right please. At no time did the McCanns try to stop details of the Police Investigation come out in court. They knew this would happen, especially with the Detective there. All the court did is show to the world have useless Amaral was, how useless the PJ was and how they tried to convince everyone that the McCanns were guilty and did not even bother to look for Madeleine McCann.

Not once in that trial did Amaral's witnesses say this "AMARAL DID IT TO FIND THE TRUTH ABOUT MADELEINE McCANN" All we heard was Amaral did it because of the Press, his integrity and his honour. Not one mention of Madeleine, that says it all about Amaral

Nemesis, I think you must have been following a different trial. At the start, the McCanns lawyer tried to prevent, Amaral's witnesses testifying and the cds of of the police investigation in the courtroom - both requests were refused. It was obvious, from what they said outside the court, that the McCanns were very unhappy with what came out during the hearing - they assumed it would be plain sailing for them and things would go their way. You only had to look at Kate and Gerry to see that they were well and truly rattled by Amaral's impressive witnesses.

Nemesis, Gerry was clearly agitated and angry and returned home prematurely. It was laid bare for all to see that both Portugese and British Police considered Madeleine to be dead and suspected parental involvement. So worried were the Mccanns about this being made public that they desperately tried to have the hearing in private, fortunately refused. No longer can you bleat that Amaral was the only police officer who thought Madeleine died in the apartment. Many others agreed and that has now been made public. This hearing was a disaster for the Mccanns.

Gerry had a prior arrangement which was made before the first trial was suspended due to swine flu. As for the McCanns asking for police evidence not to be presented in court is rubbish. BECAUSE THAT BACKS UP THE CLAIMS OF THE McCANNS, THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE THAT MADELEINE IS DEAD.

Now since no-one seemed able to answer this i will post it again.

HOW MANY WITNESSES SAID THAT AMARAL WROTE THE BOOK TO HELP MADELEINE McCANN, AND TO GET JUSTICE FOR HER?
IT WAS ALL SAID IT WAS BECAUSE OF AMARAL BEING ATTACKED BY THE PRESS, FOR HIS INTEGRITY AND FOR HIS HONOUR. NOTHING TO DO WITH MADELEINE McCANN THEN.

Imagine you had been a police officer for 30 years and that you were investigating the disappearance of a little English girl named Maddie McCann.

Imagine that all the police officers, including you, concluded that the little girl had died and that the parents were suspects of being involved in concealing the body.

Imagine that the little girl’s parents were made official suspects and that the English press started to call you “bungling cop”, “amateur”, “corrupted”, “inept”, “incompetent” and “failure”.

Imagine that the English press started to announce on a daily basis that you had “manufactured the case”, “made stuff up”, “”ditched vital evidence”, “hampered the investigation”, that you were “biased”, “cruel” and “lying”.

Imagine that for month after month, the English press called you “fat”, “drunk”, “torturer”, “stupid”, “imbecile” and “infamous”, repeating 418 times that you were a “disgraced” man and that the mother of your children was a “prostitute”.

Imagine that the police’s political directory did not defend you and that, quite to the contrary, it took the case investigation away from you, allowing for the English press to print the headline “Sacked!” and to renew all previous attacks with increased violence.

Imagine that the Public Ministry declared that the process would wait for the production of better evidence and that said statement was understood in England as an “acquittal” of the little girl’s parents, prompting even more attacks from the press against the “bungling cop”, “amateur” and “corrupt”, who “manufactured the case”, “made stuff up” and “ditched vital evidence”.

Have you imagined all of this? Well, then answer this question: IF YOU COULD WRITE A BOOK TO DEFEND YOUR REPUTATION, WOULD YOU WRITE IT?

Now imagine that the book was taken off the market because it damaged the little girl’s parents’ reputation…

I think so Kololi.

I do sympathise with Mr Amaral in that he has been treated appallingly by the British Press and vilified by people across the fora. Whatever has happened to Madeleine, it isn't down to him.

Yet his private life has been laid bare for all to see. He is nothing more than a puchbag for some of the more vile, foul mouthed posters.

That said, I don't believe he should have written that book if for nothing else out of respect for the missing child. He did. It's done. Make of it what you will.

However the McCanns' actions are of no surprise whatsoever. They have coralled the press since the start and are arrogant to the extreme. Rather than a fierce rebuttal through a press conference, which they have readily at their disposal, they have chosen to put their 'search' on hold to fight Mr Amaral on his own turf, where freedom of speech is upheld above all else and for very good reason.

This will be their undoing, imo. But there are no winners and poor Madeleine doesn't stand a chance.
