Niall Wallis left NOTW in 2009 and began work for a PR forum called ‘Outside Organisation’.

This same PR firm was called in by the notorious University of East Anglia Climate Unit, whose e-mails were hacked, leading to revelations that they and others were fiddling the statistics to make it looks as though the world was getting much warmer than it was (in fact, if anything it seems to be cooling following a peak in 1998).

It seems that the panic-stricken UEA Climate Unit also called in ‘Outside Organisation’ to try and stem the tide of bad PR they were (justifiably) getting for pretending to be scientists but generating false statistics,

Below:

3. UEA’s reply

The arrest of Neil Wallis puts the focus on the most senior executive other than Andy Coulson himself to be arrested. He was deputy to Coulson, who in 2007 left the paper because of the phone hacking allegations and became David Cameron’s chief media adviser. Wallis remained at the NotW but moved from deputy to executive editor.
At one stage, he was a member of the editors' code of practice committee of the Press Complaints Commission, the self-regulating body that looks bound to be disbanded and replaced as a result of the Leverson Inquiry.
The Daily Mail claims he was nicknamed Wolfman at the paper "because he is short, used to have lots of facial hair and is aggressive". He was also described as "a larger-than-life character whose every utterance is peppered with expletives".
Wallis left the NotW in 2009 and worked for a PR firm called the Outside Organisation.
Scotland Yard said in a statement: "At 6.30am this morning officers from the Metropolitan Police Service Operation Weeting team arrested a 60-year-old man at a residential address in London on suspicion of conspiring to intercept communications, contrary to section 1(1) Criminal Law Act 1977.
"The man is currently in custody at a west London police station. It would be inappropriate to discuss any further details at this time."
